Thread: Straight to the source: RE and low mass ships...

I’m trying to outfit a Scyk fighter with respectable gear.

As you can imagine, the Mass is severely limiting on this ship and the chassis I have weighs in at approximately 11,824 (if memory serves.)

Understanding how Reverse engineering works and having recently certified for levels 6 and 7 equipment, I’m thinking that it would be theoretically possible to build one jaw dropping ship through selective (very selective)reverse engineering.

What I’m looking at, by my estimation, is a reactor, engine, capacitor, shield, weapon, booster and counter measure launcher all with 1689.14 mass or less on *average*.

Now, by my calculations, this would require certain ‘minimums’ to get the appropriate results based upon the crucial statistics:

Reactor: low mass, high ouput
Engine: low mass, low(ish) reactor drain, high speed and high y/p/r
Capacitor: low mass, low drain, high energy and high recharge
Shield: low mass, low drain, high front and back shields and high recharge rate
Booster: low mass, high top speed, high acceleration, low consumption rate, high recharge
Weapon: low mass, low energy per shot, high refire rate, high eff vs. shields, high eff. Vs. armor and high min and max damage
Countermeasure launcher: low mass

In your opinion, can this be done or am I setting myself up for a wild goose chase?

~ Thanks for your time

If you are looking at using level 5 and 6 components and are willing to collect the parts yourself, you may be able to do this. Once hitting level 7 parts it will become very difficult to keep the mass down. Good luck on your quest and if you are on the Radiant server send a tell to Loni Jones for the reengineering work.

I've RE'd some real nice lev6 guns (apprx 2250 max dmg) with a mass about 5000 or so (sorry, going from memory here, I'm at work and on a mac.... otherwise I'd be playing here too!).

so if you went with one nice gun and crappy everything else, you may be in luck.

Well, what I'm hoping for out of this is a fast, nimble engine - tough shields that can take a few solid hits and guns that can hand it back.

Add all that to the agility of the Scyk and I think you'd have one deadly ship - but then I'm all about the handling. =)

Good to know it's not impossible - was worried that I may be dreaming too big.

the simple solution is to go Reb and get an A wing

LOL -

Well, If I really wanted to go that route - I could stay Privateer and go for the Light Blacksun Fighter, it does, after all, have the only 1.0 speed mod of all Privateer ships.

The thing is, I love the look of the Scyk as well as the handling.

It's a shame IMO that the developers handicapped the starter ships so badly. It only ensures that as we move up the ladder, certain ships get relegated to relative uselessness.

I would personally love to see Scyks and Z95's roaming the skies and kicking @zz, but with things the way they are now, only the crazy will ever take them into PvP.

Call me crazy though, because when I get there, I just might try it. =P

You forgot about putting a droid interface in there. If you're truely going for speed and power you're going to want to be able to run weapon and engine overload. If you don't, plenty of players in much larger ships will be outflying your little Scyk. Personally I'd say your hardest part is going to be getting a decent engine that's small enough to fit in there. Its fairly easy to get a lvl6 or lvl8 loot engine that can be reverse engineered to have 90+ speed, but even a lvl6 is going to eat up a lot of your mass. If you're going for a light, high-speed privateer fighter, you'll probably have better luck going with the Ligh Blacksun Fighter. It also has a very limited amount of mass to work with, but it definately gives you a lot more to work with than with the Scyk. I understand the tempatation though. Collecting the right loot and getting it RE'd, and then trying to squeeze as much as possible into your ship is one of the funnest parts of JTL, and there would be nothing better than being able to be competative in a ship that no one else flies. If I ever loot an amazing lvl4 engine, I just might have to give it a try.

Whant you want to do is not truly feasible with a 12k mass Scyk.

Go with the 40K mass Kihraxz you still only get 1 weapon but can add missle and chaff (I use micro-chaff 69-99% effective). I'm a master shipwright and can build my own components so that helps but higher level RE'd parts with low mass makes it easier.

The Kihraxz does not have the acc/dec of the TIE Interceptor/B-Wing but it's pry is better then both.

My thoughts:

Put focus on high engine speed with great PYR. use a lower end CM like chaff - but get the packs highly experimented with quality resources - it will raise it's effectiveness at least one step.

Your reactor does not need to be "high" - just large enough to run the capacitors, shields and engine. Computer programming will get you over the top in my opinion. Trade for all the programs you can get.

If you are lucky you can get a pre-patch Droid interface (they inverted the numbers on the first DIs, Tier I's were faster than Tier V's) with a droid speed of 14-15 and a mass of 500-750.

Invest in a high quality chassis with maximum mass (Your shipwright should focus on building with very high MA resources). That extra few % doesn't seem like alot but will make a difference in the end game.

Plan on dropping the booster for more room to play with.

Your best Return on mass investment will most likely be Tier 4 with your displacement restrictions.

Good luck! I'd like to see what you end up with. (I'm in the process of building one too)

I've got a Scyk I use for PvP...it's running a level 6 engine that only has 2k mass and 95.2 speed. Have a pre-nerf level 1 droid interface with 300 mass and a speed of 13.1, reactor drain 450. Shield is level 7 RE'd to 3k mass (I got darn lucky). Weapon is level 8 looted (not RE'd yet) but is only 3k mass. I'm running a RE'd capacitor with a recharge of 33.4 (just fine with WO3). And a tiny crafted capacitor experimented for mass (1k).

Run full droid specials on this (Reactor overload 4, weapon overload 3, engine overload 3) and have a grand old time in your seat with wings.

Excellent tips guys - and thanks for the advice.

I picked up a Kirahwhatchamacallit (gawd I hate the Black sun fighter names - needlessly difficult and confusing) to try it out.

I must say it IS impressive in both speed and handling, but I'm far from giving up.

I figure, I'll just make the Scyk a 'long term' project, carefully selecting items to RE and stockpile them until I can fully outfit a respectable ship a 12.3K

It should be an interesting trip none-the-less.

Also good to know I'm not the only Pilot still in love with that little mosquito of a ship...

Cheers!=)

Since I'm both a shipwright 3233 andprivateer 2222 (CorSec), I've been doing a lot of experimenting. I'm mainly flying a Kihraxz (named Kikrazz ). Thanks to a lucky find RE, I've got a lvl 3 reactor with 3400 mass and 1200+ energy. This has allowed me to fit in everything, weapon, booster, ordnance, etc, even a droid interface and countermeasure launcher. I did have to go with Mk II armor instead of Mk III though. Since I'm a shipwright, I'll make up a component, and if it doesn't quite work out, I'll replace it, and put the old one on my vendor. For instance, IIRC MkII armor witharmor reinforcement, has about 100 armor points less than a MkIII with lightening kit, and less than half the mass. Since I've got a pretty good shield, I rarely take armor damage anyway. Last night was the first time I took anycomponent damage in about 10 hours flight time. That was when I was on a duty mission, and 3 tier 3 Tie Avengers (Enforcers) spawned. I usually quit the duty before then, but I was trying it out to see how I did. I disabled the first one OK, but took a lot of shield damage, and a little armor. I disabled the second one, but the third one managed to take out all of my rear armor. Then when I was working on the third one, apparently I took too long and they all despawned.

1.0 speed mod??

Is there more to ships than is being displayed?
