Im working my way up the shipwright skill tree, so i decides to take a look at the what prices will be good in the future to sell ship chassis. Im on Ahazi btw. I have a book and know that for example a Tie Interceptor takes around 60k of various materials to make. Well, on the bazaar people are selling them around 60k, 75k, 120k and up. Quite a few on there were around 70k. So with this in mind the material to make one would cost at least, and this is if you do alot of material searching for 2cpu material, 120k.
So, if you are spending your time harvesting all this material, which you would have to be doing to sell this low, why wouldn't you just sell the material and make a hell of alot more profit? This logic to me just doesn't make sense. Am I the only one that is thinking this way. Why waste your time on crafting the d*** things on top of the time spent harvesting all the materials just to loose money. And I did check, its not just one chassis on there. Alot of these tier 3's are the same on the bazaar.
What's going on?
I sent a few of the people an email asking them,"What are you thinking?"
If I'm wrong on my take on this, someone let me know. If you agree, then what should be done? Do you think an email to these people will wake them up? Surely they are not just doing this to try and destroy the shipwright market?

Most of the time these are chassis made during the grind. I for one only craft chassis if asked for one cause they are just too resource intense.
No components, you can make some good credits if you make them right. I've seen anywhere from 10-100 cpu for some parts.

Thanks for that bit of advice! What components are best to make as I know it is also tough to compete with looted components?

I custom make parts, so can't really answer that question best.

I can not keep my Engines and Cap's in stock. I only make Mark IV and V and every night I have to make more. Then again I am hitting the Max Speed on my server with them so that may be the reason. I am Also about to start Stocking some Shields Since I have had a few requests for them.

At this point in time, just about every component when made with a sub component, and sometimes even without (mass issues) are selling very well if they are made with good quality materials. It is a good time to be a shipwright. I'd say the tops are weapons, reactors, engines, shields, and armor. But I sell a lot of boosters, caps, and droid interfaces too.

Pilots don't need chassis.

I do sell a decent number of chassis on Kettemoor for usually 2.5cpu + 10% for my effort. There are alot of people mastering one faction and then mastering another for the exp bonuses and simply because they can. I don't sell mostly chassis, but the bulk of my profits is from them.
I have found that custom work is much more profitable and that people will pay quite well for a backpack full of parts to deck out their new JSF or Bel starfighter that they know will fit into it. Taking the time to get the mass right on the parts and being selective is the key to that aspect. I still do mostly custom work for people, but have sales from my parts vendors every day.
Good luck and keep the faith.

Most shipwrights can't keep parts and higher tier ship chassis in stock. My girlfriend is a shipwright and even after two price increases she sells everything she makes within a day or two. She crafts all the time too, to the point that I have trouble prying her away from the crafting station long enoughto get her into space.

I sell my ship chassis for 5 cpu. It's not worth my time to sell for less. People still buy them because they are good quality. I make most of my money on parts which I was selling for 15 cpu, but increased price in the hopes ppl would buy less (they havent so far). Now I sell them for 16-20 cpu, except for asteroid resources at 70 cpu. I use only the best resources and make top-quality parts. I can't keep them in stock. But I am making good money and people are happy with my products. I agree that the people out there selling ship chassis for 2 cpu are nuts. But they will soon get burnt out on mining vast quanitites of resources to not make any money off of, quit shipwright, and go on to something else.

just sell them for what you think is fair...I myself only sell the ones that are not in stock near as much around the galaxy...opressors mainly...700k a pop...yes there are cheaper ones...but it really dosn't bother me because mine are better and I dont really want to waste all my resources crafting ships =)...but...they are a VERY nice chunk o change when they do sell lol

I've been shipwright for 1 month..... I deleted the persona.... after 10 million credits spend and the whole tree grinded I still Have sold NOTHING TO THIS DAY I even put my chassi to ridiculous prices like 10k for tier 2...... and parts? those I can craft don't beat what is looted..... this profession is domed to die if not all shipwright rase their prices on chassi.... maybe peoples will see it more as an expensive investment than buying a crates of food..... no joke I see food crates of food 140k going out faster than my ships....
