Okay folks i buckled down and made some of the new MP ship only components on testcenter for the upcoming Rotw expansion. heres the results in a nutshell for those that are interested...


- I used resources that were extremely high quality, most were 900-1000. All the Asteroid resources were 1000 oq except the gas which hadd OQ 500. All the space resources just have a single stat, OQ.


- All of the MP ship components weight about 250k

- All of them take 1-2 asteroid resources (most take 2), plus 2 other normal resources which varies depending on the part. (steel, aluminum, etc)

- all the resource slots for these MP components are for 1250 each, and they can all accept any mark V or lower upgrade like their smaller cousins.


The Elite guns

- I used the Mark V max damage upgrade for all guns

- Null Blaster 2k-4k Dmg, .52 vs. shields and armor, .35 refire and energy per shot

- Railgun 2k-4k Dmg, .7 vs. shields, .2 vs. armor, .35 refire and energy per shot

- Gauss cannon 2k-4k Dmg, .2 vs. shields, .7 vs armor, .35 refire and energy per shot


Elite Shields

- 2700 front and back, 13 recharge


Elite Capacitor

- 1350 energy, 40 recharge (ugh, I got lvl 4 caps with these stats)



Mining ship Capacitor

- 1450 energy,51 recharge


Elite Engine

- 115 speed, 55 PYR


Elite Booster

- 2300 energy, 65 speed, 54 acceleration (very nice!)


Elite Armor (<-- New update 4/17/05)

- 3000 armor(Note: the only available asteroid petrochem is 500 OQ so it 'can' be better)


Elite reactor (<-- New Update 4/23/05)

- 23k energy output


Overall thoughts: The guns are nice but i was hoping for more to be honest. I have guns that do 4k damage now on my ships and they weigh under 45k sooooo. But it is nice for those that dont have time to harvest space loots endlessly looking for the magic gems. I 'm kinda bummed at the capacitor, shields and engine. Its not hard to get shields that are 2555 / 15 recharge now and at 30k mass even. The booster is VERY nice imho however. Ultimately id like to see the stats on all of these go up quite a bit and hopefully fellow SW's will help me out and start squaking about these issues in testcenter. =) As they stand at present these are good for instantly turning your MP ship into a nice ride with components equal to high level loot which isnt bad. In my opinion MP ships need to be better then that tho, because they are still seriously outgunned and weaker then any high end single seater. If the Elite guns have a longer range then normal guns tho id be content as is with them.


Im eager to see what the armor is like but couldnt get my hands on the required asteroid resource to make it.

In my opnion, the damage on the guns needs to be doubled, the protection on the shields needs to be doubled, and the recharge on the caps needs to be raised by 50%. If the devs did that, POB ships might become more than just the novelty they are right now. The only explanation for why the Devs would think these components are acceptable is that they have never taken a POB ship to Deep Space and they have never playtested a POB ship in PvP.





I tend to agree with you though I'd sat doubling is not enough, to make them really viable a multiple of 5 is needed to make PoB viable. They take up what could be 4 seperate players and force them to be able to do damage of just 1. A PoB ship needs to be more "heavy" than the heaviest ships out there

Very good work bringing this up.


I think given the weakness of the pob ships i think the guns should have more bang to be honest because we either kill quickly or die quickly due to the lack of mobility.

Likewise with the shields i think they are underpowered for what a pob ship, i think a pob ship should be like a tank because the amount of mass, i would have prefered a seperate front and rear shield to be made seperately but because they are made seperately they should have higher level shields.

I like the engine i think it looks ok, not brilliant though a lot better than what i currently have at the moment.

The capacitor seems ok, though i actually do have ones which are close to that already in my YT so i think it should be slightly higher but currently i dont have any problems with my capacitor i have equiped in my YT anyway so im largely uneffected by this.


To be honest im a little unimpressed with the shields and the capacitor because the elite capacitor isnt as good as what i currently have in my YT and the shields arnt that much better than what i currently have.


I like the fact they seem to be working on pob ships as needing diferent types of components but i (trying not to seem like a powermonger) think pob ships should have stronger shields and better weapons than a 1 or 2 man fighter to make up for the fact it is unable to move as well as a smaller fighter.


I really want to be given the resources to enjoy using my YT at the moment its not as effective as a single player fighter and i dont think the stats on the components you have mentioned make much of a diference to the overall effectiveness of a pob ship, i hope they will increase the effectiveness on the components during ROTW's beta testing.


*edit* Before i forget i would like to be able to reload during flight because otherwise i will have keep landing and reloading, the pob ships need a hatch for some one to load missiles into.

Wow thanks for doing this skuzz.

The results are really troubling. I had hoped that the devs had been compiling all the things they wanted to fix and were going to give them to us in ROTW but now if this is what their solution is I'm a little upset. These won't change anything...

I hoping that there are other changes that go along with these thigns that will make this all make sense. Mabye they have decided to do a damage reduction...if not....well I'll just wait till ROTW comes out and see.

I'm ok with everything except the shields. I feel they really need to be in the 5-7K range to make POB ships effective.I don't want to see the guns too overpowered, I don't think you should get both offense and defense. these ships should, IMHO, be tanks, they can take a ton of damage, but don't deal as much. I guess there is no POB armor? I wouldn't mind giving up 1-2K off the shields if we could get a large boost in armor.

Thanks for the results!

And I have the agree the stats are a terrible joke.
Add a factor of 5 or 10 and it might make POB ships a viable option for some operation.

I agree with sumner here... I'd be happy with the guns not being that great if the shields were better. I'm sure someone knows the details of the movies better than me, but how many hits was the Millenium Falcon taking while trying to escape various sticky situations, and the shields held together? What's the point of allowing people to run around and try and repair stuff inside the ship if the shields and armor don't even hold long enough for them to get there?

Good job there Skuzz. I'm disappointed as well on the shields. I was hoping it would be higher than 2700 HP. But this is still beta. When RotW beta hits (where's the sign up for this anyway?), we need to let the Devs know that they should improve the stats on the shield and capacitor.

Okay,
I think ill be able to make some of the elite armor tonight folks. Ill post my findings on it as soon as i get home from work and get to assemble some. im hopefully that the armor will be up there but based off the other components stats im trying to not get my hopes up.

The important thing to remember is that this is beta and EVERYTHING can change with these as long as we take the time to let the devs know our findings and feelings about the new SW stuff.

Total Joke. I have several guns that are 2800-4500+ with .7 armor sheilds or better. They only weigh about 45k as well. The elite sheilds are also a joke.

Armor is a different matter - it NEEDS to be fixed so that each hit doesnt make it less effective. Armor needs to stop losing armor when repaired, its absurd and renders even the best armor worthless in one death.
