Thread: Resources: Steel quality cap?

Anyone know the cap on all of the different aspects of Steel?

CR=x, CD=x, DR=x, HR=x, MA=x, OQ=x, SR=x, UT=x

I have been resource mining for the last couple of weeks and have found junk with respect to Steel. Does most of the Steel stats just not go above 900, or have the last couple weeks just been a poor mining era for Steel? I have a good chunk of just about every other resource we usewith some real good stats, but Steel keeps eluding me.

Duralloy steel frequently goes above 900 in OQ, HR, SR, and UT. The CD cap is 650. The caps are listed in this post on SWGCraft.

Steel is one of those things you have to seriously stockpile. Hard caps on steel I believe are mostly, if not all, 1000. It's just that 900+ stuff isn't going to spawn all the time. Basically, you're going to go through more steel than anything else so when something spawns put all your heavies on it and take out a resource contract on your trade forums. Buy as much as you can.

Until you can mine your own uber steel, you are at the mercy of the people in the resource business.

The problem here is that the SW schematics require "Steel", not "Duralloy Steel". So 650 CD in a slot just asking for "Steel" won't make a difference, if my understanding of the system is correct. The hard cap for CD on just "Steel" is 1000. Now, if the schematic asked for "Duralloy Steel" it would mean something different.

Basically I stock 3 types of steel at all times. Mass-type steel. OQ/UT/SR/HR type stuff. This seems to spawn quite often, at least on Bloodfin I've noticed. Then I stock a pure OQ (Bloodfin currently has a 1000 and a 999 in which I use the 999 cuz the CD on the 1000 is crap). I purchase these from my favorite resource stockpiler. And last, I stock a CD/OQ steel averaging somewhere in the 860 range between them both. Obviously what's availableis different on each server, but I've found this covers everything and allows me to keep cranking out the premium products my customers have come to expect of me.

Anyway, my point is to get the idea out of your head that you're going to mine all your own stuff. That is, of course, if you intend on putting out server-best type stuff. If you want to put out server-best type stuff, you're going to have to have server best resources, and unless something pops up to mine, you're going to have to talk to your local resource salesperson. =)

So if I use any type of steel with a CD above 650 it counts as max? I have steel with 951 CD and I have one with 802. These will both work the same? That sounds rather strange to me.

Yes that's correct. And yes, it is strange.

I have Duralloy Steel with OQ 952 and CD 637 (Roupaunem) and some Hardened Arveshium Steel with OQ 904 and CD 977 (Carbeowaikine).

I tried making some components with OQ/CD reqs and the Duralloy stuff came out just a tad better. People went bonkers for the Carbeowaikine when it first spawned, but because of the cap, its not Uber Steel.

ACK, I just reread Lunariel's post. I have been thinking that the resource-specific caps were the ones to use.

However, the CD cap on "steel" is 650. This is Lunariel's example:

You have a Thoranium Steel with CD 252. If you put it into a Thoranium box, the CD will count as 900 since Thoranium has a maximum cap of 280 (252*1000/280). If you put it in a Steel box the cap is 650 and it will count as 387. If you put it in Metal/Mineral/Inorganic box the new weighting rules do not apply and it will count as an unmodified 252.

So, steel in a steel box has a cap of 650. Steel in a mineral box has a cap of 1000.

Ok, I understand this except when it comes to Ore, specifically Low-Grade Ore. What caps does this go by? When you look at all the different types of Ore's, their quality caps below 1000in different aspects, i.e. Carbonate DR and SRcaps at 700 /Siliclastic DR, SR, and UT cap at 700, 600, 700 / Extrusive MA caps at 600, etc.

So which one do we use? Is this the exception when the product needs Low-Grade that all affected aspects must be close to 1000 and the lower cap don't matter?

It very much depends on the kind of steel. Someone not too long ago posted a link to a post-CU resource cap spreadsheet. I looked for the link on the spreadsheet itself, but only found an email address: [email protected].

However, to my earlier point. As an example, Duralloy steel has a CD max of 650 (according to the aforementioned spreadsheet), but Crystallized Bicorbantium steel has a CD max of 1000.

From how I NOW understand it to work, for a schematic calling for low grade ore, the SR and UT cap is 1000. For a schematic calling for siliclastic ore, such as shields, the SR and UT cap is 600 and 700. For a schematic calling for carbonate ore, such as blasters, the SR and UT cap is 700 and 1000. Not that SR matters for blasters, but that is good to know about SR and UT caps for the siliclastic ore used in shields.

Funny, my whole understanding of how the caps worked was wrong. I do indeed get a slightly better product when I use 999/620 OQ/CD steel opposed to the 800/951. I guess I better go out and buy a few million units of the 999/620 cuz that seems to be the most uber.
