ok I"m a scout/artisian/medic and curious to know which weapon would be my best bet. I use a rifle for when I'm hunting out in the wilderness and switch to pistol when the creature comes closer... should I be using carbine or what?

any thoughts would be great

Myself, I just stick with the carbines. the Point Blank Shot skill is just as good as any melee weapon, and far better than a pistol at 0 range. It eliminates the need to switch weapons constantly, I use fewer skills (I'm an artisan/medic/marksman/scout), and the skillsets with the carbine weapons branch just rock IMHO. Though I do miss 'headshot' when using my blinding trap

I have been using just a pistol with the body shot skill for every shot and have no problem hitting from max range. Unless they nerf things, a pistol is fine by itself because it doesn't have the point blank penalty and it body shot hits fine at full range. Right now I go prone at about 60M and am usually able to make a few body shot hits before the target starts to come at me, when it gets to me I stand up. I don't have too much problem taking down yellows, but whites and blues are better. I can kill blues before they get to me much of the time.

My guess is body shot isn't using the long range penalty and the developers will nerf it, so use it while you can.

Your "best weapon" is going to be highly situational. However, once you get comfortable with a specific trap type, that will likely drive your weapon choice in order to maximize your impact with an appropriate special attack related to the trap debuff. For instance, using the blinding trap really puts a hurting on the mind pool - one or 2 Headshots from a rifle later and the fight is over. You can set up these combinations with any weapon.

If you are fighting animals, 99.9% will close to melee range once they detect you, so Pistol is always a popular choice.

kool, thanks for the help, but is headshot something you can aim for? or is it just taken from their pool at random?

i find point blank to be way too weak.. look at the combat chat and look at the damage..

myself i've only been using full auto single.. think that's what it's called..t he one that can shoot multiple times at one target.. doing very good dam with it.. with my cdef carbine doing over 100 per shot on average.

I grabbed a Scout Pistol last night. I have been using pistols as weapons almost without exception. I had some brawler skills early, but I find the pistol to be very useful.

I'm still working on my technique, but right now what is working well is to go prone from max trap range of 48m. Fire off a body shot followed by my snare trap. The mob is usually still at max range. If the trap takes affect, I body shot 5 more times then stand up because the snare has released by the 5th shot. If the trap fails, I'll throw one again or possibly just run away if the fight doesn't appear to be going right. I've been fighting tough mobs (Kurras and Vynocks on Corellia) and I can solo a lair without too much difficulty.

I still can't figure out this "conning" system. Someone told me to look at the mobs HAM bars for the colors people are saying they see, but I guess I don't know where to look. All I see are just the stats and their name. What color would someone say a "tough" is?

Tonight I'm going to try, as someone else suggested and go to max range and fire as many shots as I can till the mob gets in trap range and see how that works.

Happy Hunting all.

A scout's best weapon is his traps

Especially a good Smoke>Glow Web>Phenasine>Noise Maker combo with some Threaten shots mixed in for the tough critters.

My weapon of choice is a rifle with Headshot. I get just barely in range, kneel and then fire off 3 headshots. This is good enough to kill dark blues well before they reach you and can often drop whites right at your feet, especially if you mix a bone spur or noise maker in as well.

Lyfisin: The conning system works as follows. When you select a MOB look at their HAM bars, and next to it you should see an icon. It can be green, blue, white, yellow, and red. White is equal difficulty; red is death; and green is stupidly easy. This icon ONLY appears in the 3D view, NOT on the interface. So when you look at the MOB, it should be above their heads. Don't bother looking at the top-right corner of the HUD.

You can also bind a key to conning, which will give you a text message describing the difficulty of the MOB.

IMHO the best weapon for a scout is purely a matter of preference. When looking at a weapon, the two most important stats are the damage and the attack speed. Low to medium damage weapons with fast attack speeds tend to average out a little better than high damage weapons. I play a scout/marksman using pistols and rifles. I currently have a dlt20a rifle that allows me to single shot dark blues with mindshot 2. I use a scout pistol with bodyshot 2 for the more personal encounters. Scout pistols have decent damage with exceptional attack speeds.

I've fallen in love with this combo myself! However, what traps lower the Action and Health bars like the Blind Trap does for Mind? I have not found these combos that you are mentioning. Please enlighten a fledgling scout!

Thanks
