Thread: Don't kill me...mask scent proposal...

At the very least, experience should not be provided while riding a vehicle.

I am undecided overall, but I do agree with this. If we could mask (actively use that is) while on a mount but not a vehicle it would give mounts a nice benefit.

The problem is that if we want to use logic as our reasoning we have to use it for everything. Vehicles actually would conceal your scent because their odors would vastly overpower your own. They aren't natural odors and there is the noise aspect so most creatures would indeed notice their presence. But then maskscent wouldn't be needed since most creatures will flee from a moving vehicle...

Just admit it is purely a balance issue and worry about the reasoning once it has been.

yeah it is kind of cheap that mask scent works on a vehicle...get rid of that to balance it and then maybe increase the awards given while on foot.

Since I stopped getting scout XP a billion years ago, I'm not sure what you mean.

Are people actually masking scent and then buzzing by every aggressive mob out there? That's .... well, that just seems cheezy to me.

Your logic, Delta, is flawless. Since the vehicle offers a major protection in the form of not being there by the time the critter notices you, it would make sense that you not get XP for being masked when in a vehicle.

I tend to agree, I play a scout because I enjoy being a scout. It's what I want to be, but I hate seeing the entire profession turned into a means-to-an-end. I remember when I first started this game, some of the most rewarding journeys I made were across Tat on foot, before I even had mask scent. I'd love to see an incentive to get some people thinking like this again. /putshandupinagreement!

Also, is there any chance someone could post a link to the source of this whole modular camp idea please?

*sigh* A nerf I actually have to agree with.

Logically, I can't argue against this. Emotionally, I can throw a bit ole fit, but I won't.

BUT:

Speeding away from aggro mobs ISN'T as easy as people make it sound. I've taken plenty of damage while running away from spineflap soldiers, I've even been knocked off my bike once by a Fambaa. (I dunno if he REALLY did it, or if it was a fluke, but he spawned right on TOP of me, I fell off my bike, and I went squish trying to get back to it.)

I guess my only real complaint would be having to go back to using my chicken. He's slower than molasses running uphill. How about getting a speed mod to mounts for scouts to make up for it?

Maybe so that the current gallop speed is the regular speed, then tweak gallop above that.? Up the terrain negotiation mod so that they don't slow down on hills?

PS:

What the h is going on here? Is it pick on the scouts week cause the CH's got horked we got milking instead of them?

I agree with this proposed nerf. How about using the opportunity to get the devs to institute a spam message when mask scent works after we're maxed on scout xp.

As long as we're only talking about changing mask scent when on a vehicle, then I'm all for it. Please don't change anything else! Mask scent is my favorite thing about being a scout!!

Wow,

I thought you guys were going to kill me.

I'll leave this open for a while. If it's still getting positive feedback, I'll put it over in the correspondent forums for the Devs to take a look at.

I'll agree with this. However, I am concerned that the devs might implement this change to maskscent before beefing up the camp line. I'd prefer that they fix the camp issue before they go about nerfing scouts (and rangers) again. I suspect that this change will be far easier to implement than fixing the camps will be though, so I suspect that my preference will not matter too much. Still, I recognize that this is an important issue; as NRaas points out, their is no risk involved for the benefit in the current system. So, I'll support this change. Thanks for your hard work Delta.

I agree that some people are using it as an easy way to get xp, but I'm concerned that the devs may go too far. I am reluctant to say open that door because we may not be able to close it afterwards. Maskscent is finally working and it's one of the few valuable things we have. I'm not sure asking for a voluntary nerf is that good of an idea.
