not a bad idea, and i do believe it is kind of cheap to get that much xp with out much of a risk. would there be a way they could get it to auto cancel when entering a vehicle?

/agree that MS should not work on vehicles.

/agree that MS should work on mounts, thereby giving them some value.

/agree that I would like to see buffs to scout/ranger before any sort of nerf.

The thing is, I don't trust the devs to implement this correctly. I had no problem with removing xp from maskscent when one is in the squill caves, since I was maxxed on xp when that went in, and it was a cheap way to gain xp. But instead of just fixing the exploit, they made it so that MS doesn't work at all in caves, or at least very inconsistently.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

I'm going to get lynched for coming up with this idea aren't I ?

I agree with squib though, rangers and scouts need more boosts before any prospective nerf.

Now, if we can just get rid of the ludicrous survival xp needed for master ranger.....

Guys,

WarFarrett brought up a very good point in another thread, and before I thought about bringing it to the Devs attention, I wanted to get it in front of all of you - especially since I'm not usually someone who proposes a nerf.

Currently, you can use Mask Scent to speed your way through the Exploration and Hunting trees to get to Master Scout or CH. And they're doing it using Mask Scent and vehicles.

What do you guys feel about this?Does it make as much sense to you guys as it does to me tonot allow Mask Scent to be used while on a vehicle? Here are the ideas I've come up with:

1.) Puts the emphasis back on hunting - This is our core skill. Using mask scent to level that quickly just feels like an exploit to me. Granted, it's there, and it's a useful skill, but the primary means to get XP should always be hunting.

2.) Mask scent is used to make us more survivable, vehicles negate the need - Who needs mask scent when you're on a vehicle. You can outrun everything in the game while on a vehicle, so using it in the first place doesn't make any sense, from a logic point of view. The only reason to do it is to get the quick XP. You can't mask scent while on the mount - why should it work if you mask scent before getting on it?

3.) How can you remain stealthy on a noisy bike/speeder? - This speaks for itself. It's common sense.

4.) Allow mask scent while on aMount- This gives mounts a bit of a boost that they need - I rarely see a mount anymore. This would at least give Scouts a good excuse to use their mounts over vehicles.

Before I present this, I want to make sure that I get your opinions. If enough of you don't want it, I won't add it to our list.

This is a nerf, but I think it's one that it's in our long-term best interests. Let me know what you guys think.

Aye, using /maskscent in conjunction with vehicles is hugely imbalancing and should be adjusted.

The "feature" provides no risk for the reward. The experience gained was the reward for successfully completing a check, with the chance that the skill would fail and the player would be vunerable.

With the use of a vehicle, the vunerability is virtually eliminated, and there is no downside to using the skill.

At the very least, experience should not be provided while riding a vehicle.

DeltaXi65 rationalizes the reasons very well. I am in full agreement.

In total agreement with the proposed nerf.

Its farcical that u get scout xp for whizzing around aggro's on a speeder.

And I like the idea of it working with mounts - makes much more sense.

Good work,

I'll leave this open for a while. If it's still getting positive feedback, I'll put it over in the correspondent forums for the Devs to take a look at.

Delta why would you think that? The people that read this forumactually "give a ****" about the profession. The most agregious offenders wouldn't even bother posting on a regulated, official forum. Get what I mean?

Oh yeah and it goes without saying, but I'll post it anyway... I think this unintended "feature" should be corrected. Experience gain should definently be removed while riding vehicles, if they allow the use of the skill as all. This would also be a great excuse to get maskscent looked at, and maybe some minor improvements to the skill.

i have tried this method of going to an adventure planet and /maskscent then try to ride past aggro and let me tell you it doesnt work to often mind you i am only scout 3/3/3/3 im sure at a higher level the success rate is higher but at the current standing for ranger xp and the doubling of xp same as in the scout tree i really dont see the problem you only get x ammount per red you pass and most of the timme you have to walk past o get the xp its not like you are getting millions of xp riding around the same pack. also using /maskscent while on a mount should be implemented i agree.

as far as the devs being bad at their job because one fix cause andother error most of you have never tried to write a game prog let alone a MMO so until you really know what its like to prog lay off.

this is not operating as it was intended mask scent should break once a vehicle is mounted (creature mounts too, though i think that creature mounts could be concealed by a ranger since it is intended to add that bonus to other beings). nerf away.

My opinion, neither Mask Scent nor Camouflage should remain in effect while riding a vehicle. It just doesn't make sense.

In fact, it's my opinion that creatures below a certain CL should flee from the noise made by a vehicle, which could provide for some interesting side effects upon unmounted people who may be nearby -- to be stampeded by paralopes.

Creatures over a certain CL could, on the other hand, specifically charge a vehicle, as an irritating or threatening noise. This would certainly make Endor, Yavin and Dathomir dangerous again.

But as to your initial premise, I agree with you -- with the caveat that Camouflage should be similarly uneffective.

I have to agree with the nerf. (I can't believe I just said that) But I also think that we should make sure the devs don't take this too far. (like no mask scent XP at all) I really like the mount idea, I think it would bring a lot of people back to the mount side. (Plus, mounts don't fall down around your ears if you don't take them to a strange building every 2 days..) So, add one more to the "I agree but lets be a little cautious about it huh?"

I think /maskscent should end as soon as any of the following happens:

1) You enter a vehicle

2) You /gallop onyour mount

3) You /burstrun

Anything to do with speed should break /maskscent immediately.

I could see allowing mounts to preserve /maskscent so long as they travelled at a walk. As soon as they gallop, though, they're lumbering along without any care whatsoever, and so that's hardly deserving of any stealth bonuses. Same with running like a madman - there's no time for stealth, just an all-out sprint. And vehicles are just a no-brainer.

Speed should kill stealth.

It's not about stealth, it's about animals percieving you as a threat, it's not that they don't already know you're there, otherwise mask scent should break as soon as you fired a weapon as well, and I'm not proposing that (that really would break the skill), they simply don't qualify you as a threat or as food so they don't attack you.

The noise from a speeder is very irritating and any larger aggro mobs would almost certainly attack it, much like a Rhino charging a land rover.
