Thread: Trap Question

I have a few questions on using traps:

1. Just say I throw a certain trap and it hits the enemy and I get XP. Can I keep throwing that trap, or do I have to throw a differ trap now that the other one hit?

2. If a trap fails, is it okay to keep trying to throw the same trap, or do I have to move on to another one?

3. Do traps work more effectively if you are closer to the enemy and kneel, or it doesn't matter?

Thanks.

My observation is that the closer you are the higher the chance of the trap being effective. Some traps do not allow combinations of traps to be used. If a trap fails throwing another has no difference in odds of being effective than throwing a different one. Haven't noticed any difference in the posture that you are in when you throw the trap (if it has any effect) but haven't enough data to form a clear answer.

1. Once the first one hits, throw a different trap. Throw as many different kinds that you can. You will get experience for each one that hits.

2. You can keep throwing until that kind of trap hits.

3. I haven't noticed a difference in range or if I kneel.

I am still trying to figure out if kneeling makes a difference. I know it does when using ranged attacks, not sure on traps. Can anyone confirm this?

Each successful trap hit gives xp.

The amount of xp is dependent on the difference between your skill lvl and the mobs difficulty.

There is a time limit on the effect.

If you throw another trap of the same type before the effect has worn off,you will not get any xp.

BTW - The effect is shown graphically on the left of the targets window H.A.M. bars. When the graphic is no longer visible, the effect has run its course. (Im not trying to teach you how to suck eggs, Ijust thoughtI might mention it in case you weren't sure.)

So there's no confusion you can'tthrow the same type of trap over and over but you can use one of each type. For example you can hit a creature with one L.Dart, one WIre Mesh, one Sharp Bone Spur, etc. etc. Of course while you're throwing all these traps the critter may get the silly idea to come over and chew on you for a while so don't get carried away. Even when I was power grinding through the last 10,000 experience to get Level 4 Traps (was making the big push to Master Scout) I never threw more than 2 traps per creature and I got to Level 4 no problem.

Somtimes when I throw traps at a creature it gives me less pistol XP.. Namely the spur. Maybe since it does a lot of damage to the creature, causing my pistol to do less damage, it gives me less XP... But like .. A LOT LESS. I killed a whitle con eopie the other day.... and got 306 pistol XP. Next time, i threw 1 spur at a white eopie.. and only got about 120 pistol XP.. I was like... WTH?

This repeatabe BTW.

I'm posting this in the Scout forum and the BH forum in hopes of getting a faster answer.

Right now I have TrapI adn can make four traps. My question is can I make, say, 25 twire mesh traps, and throw them all at monsters (like say a kima on Talus) and have them all give exp? Or is it that only the first sucessfull trap of each kind give experience?

Thanks in advance!

Slayer,

The "mesh" traps - wire mesh and adhesive mesh - slow down the creature you are going after.

It's not a HUGE slow down, but its enough to notice and give you a few seconds more fight.

Aside from MOB's are they useable on NPS and during PVP?

Thanks, by the way.

I am a straight ahead brawler looking to expand a bit. My question is, if I learn traping.....are there throwable traps such as nets or anything that I could use during battle to slow someone down? Or, is their another device that would work the same way?
