Thread: Fishing broke since last hotfix?

Has anyone tried fishing since the patch on Jan. 8? I have an alt character, a novice scout, who steps out his front door on Lok about once a week and catches a fish or two from the nearby river to see if the fish meat has shifted. Today, when I tried, it was.... well.... just plain broke.

I started fishing like normal, got the message that I had casted my line, but no interface box appeared, no water-splash graphic and no bobber. So I tried a little further down the river from my usual spot. Same result. I logged to desktop and closed the client out completely before re-logging. Same result. I rebooted my computer. Same result -- no interface, no splash, no bobber. It's like the mini-game doesn't "boot" up. I /bugged it, but I'm hoping it's just some kind of temporary aberation with my character.

Anybody else experience this?

Does anyone else get a chuckle out of the word 'Bobber.' If I had a friend named bob, i would call him Bobber. heh. wow I am really tired... G'night

Guys,

Is anyone else having this problem?

If so, let me know - I'll ask TH about it.

Two people could be a coincidence, but more than that is just down right screwy.

I'm still having problems with fishing today. I've tried with two different accounts, two different computers, multiple reboots, etc. So far, I've attempted on both Lok and Tatooine. A guildmate of mine is also reporting the same problem. She has attempted fishing on both Lok and Naboo. Same problem -- interface never appears. It probably won't make a difference, but I'm going to try it on several different servers as well.

Please, anyone with a fishing pole and a spare moment or two, give this a try. The more information we have, the easier this will be to narrow down if there is indeed a problem here. Thanks.

Fishing works for me, at least on Tempest. I'll try out Corbantis later.

Thanks for taking the time to report your experience, aachil. That's exactly what I was encountering. In additon, there's been reports from a couple players on my main server of Gorath. That thread can be found here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Gorath&message.id=105675

This morning, after the daily server restart, I've made sort of an intergalactic fishing expedition and the results are as follows:
Kettemoor/Tatooine = success
FarStar/Corellia = success
Gorath/Tatooine = failure
Gorath/Lok = failure
Test Center/Naboo = failure

The characters who had failures are all previous fishermen. The characters with successes had never fished before.

Since I last posted, I have updated my video drivers, double-checked my version of DirectX, done a full scan from the Launchpad and done a cold restart on my computer.

DeltaXi65, is this enough information now to escalate this through the correspondent boards?

BlueOx,

I'm having the exact same problem as you report on Gorath. My main char is a master ranger and he's fished many times before. He's currently on Endor trying to catch some of that high OQ fish meat, but he's having no luck at all. I reported this problem on you Gorath fishing problem, too.

Delta, I think we have a definite problem here. With a number of people reporting problems on the same servers, it looks to be more than a coincidence. I *really* need some good fish meat for my Master BE to make pet stims with. It's frustrating. Ahhh....

Ditto here - I have an alt scout on Gorath that is getting the exact same error. I even destroyed my fishing pole and created a new one, thinking that it may have been a damaged pole, but I got the same results. And I had planned to spend the afternoon fishing yesterday to raise my survival xp.

Haven't been on today to test it, and probably won't get on for a day or two with classes starting again this week.

Fishing works fine on several planets on Chilastra. Just like always.

Wow, how can they be running different code bases for each server? Thats just um crazy!

"how can they be running different code bases for each server? Thats just um crazy!"

SWG operates off a database driven scripting system in addition to a server code base.

It is possible for some users to get "stuck" in one of the scripts and no longer be able to perform an action.

Because of that, information in a server'sdatabase could be causing problems on some servers, but not on others.
