Thread: Wasted Skill Points

I hope I don't make anyone mad with this post but its just a comment that i've discussed with other people in game and it seems everyone is in agreement. I don't have anything against scout, as a matter of fact, my first elite profession was Ranger. I've been playing since launch and my professions have changed over and over again. However I've never been able to drop exploration 1 because as I think everyone will agree its one of those skills you just have to have so you don't go crazy trying to walk somewhere. Now I am working on brawler professions and i was trying to figure out what skills I needed to drop to get all the skills I wanted and I just noticed where a lot of them were being sucked up from, Novice Scout 15 skill points, Exploration 1 2 skill points. I just really dislike having to give up 17 skill points so I can have the magical jedi force uber master walk up a slope skill. Yes I know we have swoops now but we all know if you go riding up to a nightsister you can kiss your swoop goodbye. There are no other Novice skills that are just a must in order to play the game and enjoy it regardless of your profession, why was it made so hard to get by without having exploration 1?

Actually, with speeders in the game, not having terrain negotiation isn't really a necessity anymore. You gain so much time on the flat land that any slowing you experience on big hills is negligible. Go ahead and drop your exploration. You can always get it back later if you miss it.

*EDIT* sorry, missed your point about the nightsisters and kissing your swoop goodbye. I guess what I have to say to that is it won't happen on a regular basis if you are just whizzing by them on your swoop. If you need to stop and you know there are nightsisters nearby, just store your bike so they can't get it.

Well, that's not exactly true - there are other professions that provide terrain negotiation - namely, combat medic (which doesn't require Scouting at all) and Squad Leader - which can give TN to anyone grouped.

There are ways to get by without terrain negotation. One - get a mount. Two - geta vehicle. Three - get skill attachments for terrain negotation...this is a popular modifier to loot, by the way. Four - Travel Biscuits...buy 'em. They give TN bonuses. Five - Go Combat Medic. Six - Get an SL.

There are ways around this, if you just think outside of the box.

Ahh yes, another whine from the peanut gallery.

Not unlike the popular - "why do I have to waste 15 skill points to heal myself...that's not fair..."

Oh well, guess what? Big freaking secret - THE GAME IS NOT FAIR.

Other than the snivel you don't think it is "fair" to have to use skill points for a skill - which in and of itself is a stoopid argument - you present no facts to convince anyone or to support yourself. So you lost your swoop to a Nightsister - hint, don't go near them mounted.

You would think someone playing since day 1 could figure that out. And if you played since day 1, you must remember walking everywhere, and waiting for the slower people.

Yeah, and then all of those people got exploration 1 so we wouldnt have to wait on them anymore. . . . . . . . Remember that?

Anyways, the easiest solution I came up with myself would be Bio clothes but i'm not sure if you can get a mod for terrain negotiation on them. Anyone?

Yes, I think I have seen Terrain Negotiation bonuses on armor and clothing attachments - not completely sure but 85% sure.

Also, as someone else pointed out, Travel Biscuits! Great way to get some TN without "wasting" any skill points in Scout (I put that in quotation marks because, personally, I LOVE being a Scout so no skill points spent in Scout are a waste).

The attachments are out there. They're rare, but they're out there. And no, you can't get bio-clothing with TN mods.

I don't call them wasted skill points if they go towards something that helps you.

The point I'm trying to make here is that having to spend 17 skill points to get the ability to "walk" at a tolerable rate of speed without having to use up all the room in your stomach by stuffing yourself with travel biscuits or hunt down 4 +5 Terrain Negotiation Armor or Clothing attachments and then using the slots for them, and repeating every time you have to buy new clothes or armor seems like a big waste. Since when is something we learn how to do when we are babies such a challenge for a bunch of aliens that can make spaceships that can go the speed of light? Guess the gravity is a lot stronger on all the planets in the star wars universe than it is on planet earth. Then that also make those big spaceships flying around in the atmosphere a lot more impressive. Maybe its just that since there are robots to do everything everyone is really lazy. . . .wellno because ifI was lazy and out of shape how could I smack down a rancor. . . . . . sigh . Anyways, thanks to the people who actually had something helpful to say in regards to this post, As I had said at first, I wasn't trying toupset anyone. And just something for JBMat to pay attention to, At no point did I say in my post that this was "Not Fair". I take it you must just be one of those people that anytime anyone has an opinion differing from your own you can think of nothing helpful to say to debate the topic or offer suggestions but due to the fact that you apparently lack the ability to just keep your mouth shut or perhaps its just that you will say anything just to try and get some attention (which here is some more for you :smileywink that you will post something that has no relevance. Thank you though to everyone that had useful information about other ways that I may be able to get around using skill points for terrain negotiation and for just taking the time to read my post.

That's what the game is all about - choices.

You give up the ability to do something in order to do something else. You have your priorities, others have theirs. If everyone got TN, it wouldn't be a useful skill would it?

Something to think about.
