Hey guys,

Anyone have any suggestions on how to best get trapping, or any little special techniques or mobs to go it on? I have Hunting IV, Exploration IV, and Survival IV but never remembered to trap when I was fighting creatues, so now I'm stuck in a pit. Any things you guys used that worked that you could suggest would be greatly appreciated!

DeltaXi65 :

I did, in fact, read your guide before this post, but really didn't find any specific. detailedhelpabout trapping. I think it's common sense to throw a trap at a mob over and over again, but I find even krettles tear me up enough after a while. Armor is rare on my planet and I hate it all together, so basically what I'm saying is I don't have the HAM to sit there and throw a trap at a mob over and over again while it attacks me and I burn 32 action just to throw the trap each time.

All these mobs you listed, also, I am not familiar with as I am out of Tatooine and cannot leave because I have a lot of Buisness matters on it.

Getting this 29 XP or whatever once or twice a fight is proving to be extremely slow and frustrating. I spent 3 hours tonight on Trapping II going for Trapping III and managed to get about 1/10 of the way. I'm not seeing it as "blowing through" as you put it in the guide.

>"Then put each trap on your quickbar. When you get into a fight, throw EVERY TRAP EVERY FIGHT. Period. Keep doing it for all of your traps until they're gone. "

To reply to this quote, I'll sum it all up:

1) 75% of the time the trap fails or the mob still has the effect from before (I try to pay attention but you can't cancel the traps out of your combat queue. Bug?)
2) I only have time to get off 2-3 traps before the mob starts ripping me to shreds, even green cons.
3) I don't notice any slow effect on the snare traps.
4) Trapping XP is slower than Survival XP for me.

I need more specific details and strategies, other than the obvious.

Get a fighting skill so compliment your scout skills and you should be fine. Sounds to me like you dont have a good fighting skill and are being torn to shreds. If you do have a good fighting skill and are still being torn to shreds then I am at a loss.

I just read your sig and if you are a squad leader you must be using traps on critters that are to high to trap?

Probably the quickest way i got trap xp aside from hunting Kima's which i'm not sure if you can even do that now since they said they made cat creatures or something faster. Anyways get into a sizable group thats going to hunt big creatures, i've only grouped a couple times because i never seem to get scout or survival xp when in a group, but it seems the only people in groups who throw traps are the people wanting to be true scouts. As such this is very few, i'd spend several fights just throwing traps and it rocketed me up the trap tree. Though it's a good idea to ask in a group if anybody else is going to be throwing traps and coordination with them as you can't effect a creature with the same trap twice no matter how many people throw it.

Captain,

More specificity:

1.) Use a bot, a pet or a friend - As a squad leader, you are in an excellent position to get this XP. Take a group. Go hunting the largest animals on Tatooinne - the ones that you need a group of more than 5 or 6 to be able to take out. Instead of fighting the creature with your ranged weapons or melee skills, lob every single trap you have the ability to make at the creature, wait for whatever effects they cause to go away, and then do it again. You are always going to need someone to catch the aggro when you're trapping because traps won't kill a creature on its own.

2.) Don't be too close....or to far away - Stay at medium range 25-50 meters from the creature you and the group are attacking. Too close and you may catch his attention. Too far away and the cycling time on the traps increases (based on the distance thrown) and you won't get as many in.

3.) Make multiple "full sets" of traps - Make two to three batches of every trap that you have. Make a goal to stay in the field until you use all of them. I was typically able, hunting the largest animals on Naboo and Dathomir (prior to it becoming party central) to run through an entire set of 8 traps (with 2-8 individual traps per stack) in no time. This also helps take into account the ones that will miss.

Trapping is absolutely, 100% and without a doubt the easiest skill to master in the Scout tree. I have been a Ranger Trap Master for almost an entire week, while I've not progressed past Ranger survival 1 or the Wayfaring and Bioscience level 2s until early this morning.

As a squad leader you are in a unique and easier situation, as you'll have people begging you to take them out in groups. You aren't going to get much SL XP while doing this, but you'll get a buttload of trapping.

I hope this is more specific and answers your questions.

Cap,

The best way to get this XP is to make up all of your traps that you can - all of them.

Then put each trap on your quickbar. When you get into a fight, throw EVERY TRAP EVERY FIGHT. Period. Keep doing it for all of your traps until they're gone.

For medium difficulty, take nightspiders/hermit spiders/ikopi. They're worth about 50 XP per trap.

For harder difficulty, take on Guamas and Belle Bols. They're about 200-300 per trap.

For you're-a-crazy-SOB difficulty, take on Randors and Raging Fambaas. They're about 450-550 per trap.

Read my guide for more info.

Have your probot (assuming you have one) attack something like a scyk or bantha. Throw every kind of trap you can make at it. You get arond 100xp for each trap that lands.

I got lucky and found a scyk lair. I made 10k in about 30 minutes.

Now if someone has a shortcut for camping xp ...

My probot gets torn up by any mob higher than blue since the patch that nerfed them, so that works for 1 or 2 mobs then I have to wait 20 minutes for the probot to regen again. And regarding chitin armor: I purchased a full suit then I immediately returned it because I was getting EXTREME low regeneration rates that was a waste of my time, and the benefit of having it was unnoticable (and yes I got great quality one's). And before you say "just take it off when you're not fighting" - that's too much work to have to do between every single fight.

Still looking for answers...

oh, my probot got beat up pretty good.

But between me tanking (I'm wearing cloth) and my probot tanking, I was pretty successful. I dont know what your weapon skill is either. I'm a master marksman using a great pistol so I can kill these targets pretty quick if I'm in deep trouble.

I did get incapacated a few times ... but I was just going for the trapping xp.

Good Luck!

It also helps if you set up a toolbar for trapping with all your traps and then add macro button to throw them all rather than clicking each one.

I don't use a pet and cannot see what the problem is even without any advanced brawler skills I can toast any blue with one hit and most whites.

At 300xp a creature it doesn't take very long.

The only downside is you have to keep making traps. Wish I could make a macro for that.

That's a good idea, but how do I set up a macro for it? Meaning, the exact text and stuff.

And as far as the second statement, this is what I wonder also. Got a great sliced weapon, so there's no explanation.
