Scout Archive
Thread: Somewhat sad to see it end.
I made Master Scouttonight, and I was a little surprised that my initial reaction to seeing all of the boxes in green, was disappointment. Not that I want to go back and redo all of that, but I think I'll miss grinding my scout skills. Well, except for the harvesting, which I'll still need to do for my medical supplies, and the possibility of trying out CH.
It's funny, but the one grind I considered the worst is the one I probably miss the most: camping. I actually quite a bit done while grinding the camping. Like reading, watching DVDs I had yet to tear the cellophane off of, and getting more exercise.
Getting to the goal is more fun to me than when I fufill that goal. Especially in this game where you won't have to do anything more once you've reached your goal other than to upkeep purchases made along the way, like houses. Who knows, maybe I'll start another character on a different server and try some other profession out.
::getting out my little violin::
This sounds like a not very cleverly disguised whine fest. I'm busy playing- shall I have someone fetch you some cheese?

Are you really that much of a dumb ass? You're apparently having comprehension problems with my post. Why don't you go back and actually read what I wrote before posting your fanboy reactionary nonsense.
I wish just saying I would miss some of the Scout grinding. That's all. I don't see how you would read that it was a "whine fest". I had some fun doing the Scout grinding, despite some of it being do tedious. Especially with the people I met camping. Since I no longer need to grind it, I'm not going to be doing near as much because I need to grind other stuff.
I'd consider any post of yours a whine fest due to your sig.
SOE isn't forcing you to pay 14.99 to beta test anything. If you chose to pay the monthly fee then please don't complain about it.

That is a pathetic little 'whine'...... Go and try some other profession- I assure you, you aren't Scouting material.

ps... that's 'fangirl' ....................
pps ......
Even your pathetic little name is a whine....... :

Guys,
C'mon. Displeased has had that as his sig for three weeks. Has everyone of his posts been a whine fest?
There's always a bit of regret when you finally reach a goal that you've worked so hard to achieve. You got used to the idea that you were "working on it". When you get there...you've got to figure out where to go next.
It's always hard to make that next step. So cut Displeased some slack. He's not whining. He's just gotta figure out where he's going,
Robert Redford's character Bill McKay in the 1972 film "The Candidate" summed it up perfectly. After running a massive, hard and long campaign against a seemingly impossible to beat opponent was at his victory party. At the end - he turns to his campaign manager and asks the simple question:
"Okay. Now what do I do?"

I have to agree with displeased. I find most of the fun of SWG is progressing, getting exp, becoming stronger, and continuing to progress. I am just about at Master Ranger now (minus about 40,000 more camping exp,I never want to hear a scout whine about camp exp again until he knows the pain us rangers have endured
) and I have already maxed trapping hunting and wayfaring, its kinda dissapointing knowing I won't be progessing much anymore. This game isn't like EQ where there is AA and non stop item upgrades for the high end gamers, there is defenitely a sense of dissapointment when its all said and done. Kinda like high school really, you hate it all 4 years, but when you graduate your kinda sad to see it go. I can totally sympathize with what he is saying. Don't jump all over the poor guy, gee.

Sorry Delta,
Just dont buy it.... Especially when someone 'needs' to go to another server to be 'fullfilled'. If making camps is an aspect of the game that you really like.... what, you're going to stop because it no longer gives you xp? What a bunch of crap.
If you feel that you have 'exhausted' this game after only a month of playing, either
Why all the "quotes"? You're putting words into my message that weren't there, and then labeling me a whiner for things I didn't say.
Yes, I may make another character on another server to try out another skill. I'm not ditching this one. I'm just moving onto to the next set of skills. I may make an occasional camp, but most of my in-game time will be devoted towards earning the xp needed to make my end goal.
"That is a pathetic little 'whine'...... Go and try some other profession- I assure you, you aren't Scouting material."
Doh. Way ahead of you. I'm already Master, and I'm now finishing off the last 1.5k combat xp for Master Marksman.
Not scouting material? You pain me, my dear. ![]()
"Anyone with his little 'signoff', or who uses the word 'fanboy' - is a whiner, imo. Let him go- Here's his hat, and i hope the door doesnt bang him in the ass on his way out to another server."
Making another character on another server != Quitting this character.
What on earth would quitting my current server grant me? If I hate the game as much as you seem to be accusing me of, then what would ditching my current character do? What's so bad about making a second character, anyway? If I had the extra account, I'd make a second character on the same server I'm currently playing on.
Doh. I can't say "fanboy"? How about "overapologist"? That would work just fine.
You'll have to save that "door hit you..." sentiment for another time. Preferrably one more applicable.
Thanks Delta and Daoden. You both understood what I was saying, exactly. As I move onto my end goals, I won't have the amount of time to work on the Scout stuff that I enjoyed. Well, except Mask Scent, and harvesting. I now have a house, so I tend to rest there, but I always keep a couple tents handy just in case. Who knows, maybe I'll have some more run-ins while using them.
This paragraph seems to be giving you the most problems, KailMirchi. I shall do my best to help you comprehend it:

My point is: getting there is thereal fun. It's alongthesame lines as wanting something so bad, and then getting it to find disappointment. For instance, when you were a kid and worked towardssaving money fora toy you really wanted, or something like that. The desire to have the thing, along with the prolonged time it took to come up with the money, was actually more enjoyable and fulfilling than actually having the thing. This iswhat becoming Master Scout was like for me.My initial reaction wasdisappointment that I would no longer be working toward that goal. With my need to focus on another skill tree now, Ijust won't have as much time,or the need, to work on most of the Scout skills.Honestly, I don't really want to work on them much anymore, but I'll miss earning that xp.
Yes, it'strue. If you enjoy the game for the "getting there" aspect, then you feel a little let down when you get there. That's why Icommented on the house upkeep, and little else. Once I reachmy chief goal, I'll have less compunction to play the game just for playing the game. As Daoden pointed out, in games like Asheron's Call, you are always working towards a goal. I like that a lot. Thus, I'm thinking about making another character on another serverso I can continue working on "getting there". Once I mastera profession, I'll probably jump into another one to keep working. But, I'll still keep the character I have now.
As you may see now, this has nothing to do with feeling I have exhausted the game. Nor any of the other things you accused me of. Turn off the whine detector. A lot of you are so quick to squelch anything you see as negative that you missed a sentiment that I was trying to express. One which only Delta and Daoden picked up.
Guys,
But here's the thing - once you get your character maxed is when the fun REALLY starts.
This is where you can start doing the things you've wanted to do all along...
...you can hit all of the Theme parks and see all of the Star Wars characters you've not met yet.
...you can join a PA (or start one) and help others to get their characters to where yours is.
...you can hit all of the cool and interesting sites across the Universe, like the Death Start wreckage on Yavin, or the Ewok village on Endor.
...you can PvP until your brain oozes out your ears.
...you can try and figure out how to open the coveted FS slot.
...you can go to any of the dungeons and explore.
...you can to do Dathomir and try to take on a Dark Jedi mano-e-mano
This isn't one of those games where when you get to the "End" you get a nice little end movie and the credits roll. Maxing your character isn't the end. It's only the beginning.
This is also not one of those games where the content and storyline are crafted to get you from point A to point Z, stopping and crossing obstacles at each point. Part of the fun of RPGs (even MMORPGs) is that YOU get to make the content and stories. And if you aren't that creative, meet some people who are. We just had a wedding last night that didn't get me a single ounce of Ranger XP, didn't get me a single credit (well, not exactly true...got some cool presents.
), didn't get me a single faction point - but it was some of the most fun I've had since the game started. And it was all because the wife and I wanted to do it. That's what these games are all about. Take off the grind cap and put on the creative cap and get out there and have fun.

Actually Displeased, if you noticed, I did not use " I used ' - which is a way to delineate (and emphasize) a paraphrase. It is not intended to be an exact quote. You made several implications, and these quotes emphasize how *I* interpreted parts of your post.
<< This paragraph seems to be giving you the most problems, KailMirchi. I shall do my best to help you comprehend it: >>
I assure you, my reading comprehension skills are quite up to par. When you write, (and this is a direct quote)
<<"Getting to the goal is more fun to me than when I fufill that goal. Especially in this game where you won't have to do anything more once you've reached your goal other than to upkeep purchases made along the way, like houses. ">>

I do believe that is the statement that leads me to conclude that you are 'unfullfilled'. ![]()
If you feel this way imo, your goals are very short-sighted, and you truly do not understand (appreciate?) the nature of this game. Have you chosen a faction? Have you risen though the ranks of that faction? How about the myriad things that Delta mentioned? PvP may not be to your liking but it *is* central to this game and many of its goals involve the struggle between opposing factions. And I may be wrong about this, but I believe the game's storyline will actually be shaped by the dynamics that result between the players who choose Reb and those who choose Imp. So, if you approach this game expecting a 'beginning' and an 'end' which progresses in a linear fashion- you're only setting yourself up for disappointment.
Also, for the others who are complaining about lack of content, and are comparing this game to EQ- we are just a MONTH into the game! EQ has been around for..... gee..... how long?
Perhaps you are correct that my whine detector is on full alert. I found this board to be a haven from the picayune bitching and moaning that is rife elsewhere on these forums. But I stick by my assertion that while a good portion of your post may be a sentimental 'look-back' into your experience of achieving Master Scout, certain phrases that you used were unsubstantiated complaints ( i.e. whines).
