Thread: Basic camps for everyone -opinions?-
In a discussion about allowing everyone to have the ability to have some reduced medical skills that would allow them to use some basic medical device to heal themselves. (this device would have to be purchaced from a medic). Someone said they want the ability to camp. I am a ranger 4/0/4/0 and i see no problem with allowing everyone the ability to use a basic camp kit. oviously they would have to purchace these from a scout.
but i wanted to get the rest of the scouts in the game to give there opinions on this.
i understand that professions are supposed to be diverse and not have the ability to do everything. but dont you think that allowing everyone to have a broader basic set of skills that allow you to use some basic device crafted by another profession would create more of a need to interact with other profession, and it give novices something to sell to make a little extra money.
Frk,
I don't really like this idea, because camping and harvesting are the two primary reasons why people pick up the Scout skills.
We fought long and hard to get a means for scouts to harvest in groups, in order to make grouping more viable for Scouts. Being able to camp is the other reason why people like grouping with Scouts.
If everyone were able to use the basic camp, first - we would make next to no money on the camps, because they are so easily crafted; second - we would lose one of the few reasons why people want Scouts in their groups, especially if they're hunting NPCs and not creatures.
While the ability to heal is a skill that anyone should have (everyone gets hurt and needs a band-aid...even little kids can learn this), setting up a camp is a learned skill that requires a bit more knowledge.
So while I understand where you are coming from, I think it's best to leave this alone. ![]()

not to start an arguement but i hope people are grouping with you for more than your ability to set up a basic camp. even if it is for you to just set up camps, the other camps are far better than the basic camp kit and still you be a very good reason include a scout on there hunting trip. i can only imagine a group of 4 or more people all standing on top of each other in a basic camp. the thought of a group of 20 is pretty funny though.
I am not suggesting everyone gets the ability to use all camps just the one one we got at novice scout, ( the basic camp kit)
as far as marksman skills everyone in the game can use cdef weapons without learning novice marksman so your point is invalid. everyone can also unarmed fight without learning brawler.
By the way, Of course they could not get any XP for using it just the ability to heal themselves like everyone else when in camp.
Before I get flamed I thought I would add that.

no offence but are you nuts?
Look what happened to CH when they gave people the ability to wield pets....
My mental status has nothing to do with this. j/k hehe
CH made a ton of money selling pets to everyone? I am not sure i am understanding your point.
Totally against it here. Although this is a "class"-less game, the skill points are there for a reason, and the closer you get to maxing them out, the harder the choices are. If people really want to camp, then they need to take the 15 SP hit and invest in Novice Scout. End of story. If you reallly want to use medicine, you take the 15 SP hit and invest in Novice Medic. That's how the system is designed, and that's how it should play out.
BTW, I'm also against non-CH's having pets (well, combat pets). What's the use of being a CH if everyone's running around using their pets to attack? Not much...but that's admittedly an entirely different can of worms.
Thanks for posting the idea, but I'm against it. If someone wants the ability to camp, they can pick up the novice scout skill in addition to whatever others skills they have. One of the things that I like about this game is that anyone can learn any novice skill for just 100 credits and a few skill points. If someone wants to camp that badly, they'll become a novice scout. Otherwise, they'll have to run with one of us.

I also think this is a bad idea. As is providing everyone with baseline healing ability. IMO it defeats the whole purpose of specialization, and fostering interdependence between professions.
