Thread: Basic camps for everyone -opinions?-
no offence but are you nuts?
Look what happened to CH when they gave people the ability to wield pets....
heck why not let every marksman wield a flame thrower while were at it?
BIG NO
Rore,
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if I've got a headache, I take two aspirin.
You try setting up a camp without instructions. ![]()

So, if everyone can use basic camps, noone's going to care about your bigger camps, because they're no more use than the basic ones.
(In fact, the only reason I see to use a bigger camp is when you're trying to get exp!)
I don't like this idea either.
Camping is one way that I meet and interact with people. I'm not one for hanging out in cantinas and med centers, but I like pitching a cap on the way to some popular location, and having people drop in on their way to and from the nearest city. That aspect can make getting survival XP less of a grind, it's also a way for people (like me) who aren't as social to still meet and interact with people, as well as find people who may need training.
If people could buy their own dirt-cheap camps, this part of my game-play would be completely eliminated. That would be disappointing.

gonna have to happen due to the new calling rules. since it is camp or town ONLY to call now (no more calling inside open houses), everyone is going to have to be able to camp. or they have to realize what a stupid rule this is.
personally, i hope they don't give this to everyone, no camps and the new call rules will be a bad thing, and will cause the forum to whine in a pitch so high only dogs can hear it. maybe then the devs can see the problems with the situation they are creating.
Glarg,
I don't see it that way at all.
CH's are all scouts, so they can use the camps they can craft.
Those non-CHs with pets will be the only ones affected, and if they want to call their pets or droids, they can either pick up Scouting or bring a Scout along.
There's no reason why any group of more than two people shouldn't have at least one Scout in it. ![]()

Well I would have to say NO!
Though if they go through with the proposed change to make everyone with a pet use a camp or the city to call their pet, you can expect this to become a huge request. Remember that this affects ALL pets, not just CH pets. That means that anyone with a faction pet or droid will be forced to make a camp or run back to the city to call their pet. A large percentage of those people have no scouting skills. Right now they just find a public house and call their pets, I see this all the time. If this change goes thru expect them all to be claiming that camping is a basic RIGHT, that all characters should have. So I expect such posts as this to become popular.
I think camps should be scout only and that call restrictions should be done away with. There are many places with starports and shuttle ports that aren't cities. You must go into a building in those places to call a pet or droid. It would be a real pain to have to run out and make a camp to pull out pets and droids. It would be even worse for those non scouts who would have to find some scout and convince them to run far enough away to set up a camp so they could call. Throw in the fact that they have yet to fix pet pathing and auto-store, and the restrictions are even worse. DE's have it bad enough as it is, if droids become any more user unfriendly, they may as well just pull that class out of the game.
So, no to camps for everyone, and no to call restrictions.

Nor does it take a rocket scientist (or a ranger) to set upa tent and start a campfire (and put up a lawn chair and put boxes by the tent and...). I remember learning how to do that when I was7 years old (before I ever joined boy scouts). I sure wasn't deciding what medicine to take when I was 6. Your argument is quite flawed.
Either give everybody basic abilities of all professions, or none (non-CH fighting pets were a screw-up IMO, droids should be in that place, not animals).
Jax,
That's funny. I couldn't setup a camp without instructions now, or start a fire without matches and I've got a Masters' degree. I can make up more useless anecdotal information based on personal life to challenge your argument, but that's not going to get us anywhere.
Scouting is a three legged stool - it's based on harvesting, camping and trapping. Those are what make Scouting unique, they are what make it important. Take any one of the three away and give them to everyone, and the stool falls over.
CHs are an advanced profession. Allowing every player to have a low level pet not only stimulates interest in that profession, it gives them a means to sell their products (and BE products as well) to a larger community. Take that away, and they've got even fewer money making opportunities.
Now I'm not advocating allowing everyone to use stimpaks - I was just making a point.
95% of the Scouts here, I would conjecture, would be against this change.

I'm against it. Opinion stated ![]()
Not to jump on the off-topic bandwagon, but I can't agree that everyone should have the basic healing ability, either. You can't have your cake and eat it too, lol. Brisc, ole buddy, if medics can't set our camps without taking Novice Scout, we shouldn't be able to heal damage without taking Novice Medic ![]()
I also disagree with the statement that camping and harvesting animal resources are the primary reasons why players take up the Scout profession. IMHO, the primary reasons are terrain negotiation and maskscent.
I'm not confrontational today...just, umm, frisky I guess ![]()
