Thread: Lack of mounts in this game...?

I'm new to this, have only been playing awhile (on Infinity) but I'm surprised to see so many bikes & speeders, and so few mounts around (Tatooine, Naboo AND Correllia, where I am now).

I'd have thought that scouts would have enjoyed the ability a mount gave to fight on 'horseback' as it were. Is there something I'm missing about mounts? I'm planning on getting one as soon as I reach CH - though that is likely to be a long way off....

There slower then vehicles so no incentive to use them. As a master CH i use mine all the time. Just nice to have them out for battles.

They're also good to have now that bikes can't be repaired after they are destroyed.

We're trying to find more incentives for Scouts, in particular, and Scout based professions to use mounts.

Mount is better for hunting, cause you zip past a lair, with a speeder, before it spawns.

There are otherwise not many incentives on using mounts when you want to

get from A to B. Not even being able to Auto-Attack. They should allow all attacks

from a mount.

I've found that for short distances... like when I grab missions withn 100k of a term I use mounts. They're quick and you can pull and store them without damage. Small things like that make your vehicles last longer.

Well, once speeders came out the moutns dropped off the planet, litterally. Mounts are slower then speeders, and you can only autofire, no specials. And the mount can't attack itself.

There are two things scout and ranger is trying for.

1. scouts have their TN tranfer to animal mounts.

2. rangers are trying to get "mounted combat" basically using full specials when on animal mount.

Those two things will see more scout/rangers on mounts I bet. Both for usefulness and RP reasons.

Thats what we need a ranger cavalry coming along in small groups. That would be fun to see

If you are familiar with the American Civil War orRevolutionary war, then the idea of Ranger Guerilla groups on mounts should be familiar. They would be akin to the Tennesse / Kentucky mountain men coming down out of the mountains on horseback, causing confusion and chaos among the well formed lines of the enemy. They could seemingly pop out of nowhere in the middle of the wilderness and hit the enemy hard before they had a chance to use their numbers/technology advantage to any sort of success. Then, when the enemy finally grouped themselves and started to respond, the guerillas were gone, back up into the mountains. The British wouldn't dare attempt to chase them down on rought terrain and in their homeland.

That's what I see a small group of mounted Rangers as. It would be a beautiful thing to behold. Happy Independence Day, Everyone!

That would certainly be fun to watch...! Especially if the mounts could use their own attacks (like the destriers of the medieval age) in close combat.

I have heard of alot of guild leaders wanting their troops to ride into battle on a [Insert mount here] though it isn't very effective heh. I think the biggest antagonist to mounted combat is buffs. Buffs basically mean endlessly spammed specials which is more effective than straight out auto-fire. I am a 4,4,4,1 scout as of now (I just decided to get ranger, master scout at least) and was leveling trapping. I brought out my kaadu (4,2,1,4 creature handler too) to move on to the next victim of my wire mesh and I spot a gubbur. I click the trap and realize hmmm, I can't throw it while on my kaadu. Talk about a kick in the pants. I think being able to throw a trap on the back of a mount would be helpful for one (though you could just use a droid). Most scout abilities can't be done on a mount, such as: foraging, harvesting, traps, and mask scent. They all fit with the natural feel of a mount (Though you have to have mighty long arms to forage and harvest on a mount, but hey you can loot on a mount). People want mounts, I get asked all the time to mount this and that, "Can you name and mount my cu pa?" and the like. I do like the idea of having mounted specials as a profession ability. Another useful tidbit may be having burstrun the command to gallop, my taskbar is as big a zoo as my datapad. The default action for vehicles or mountable animals should really be well, mount. You don't examine chairs as the default action ya know? Another thing (Yes I know this is a staple about mounts) I can gallop away from any cat and barely make it away, it that takes a while. A galloping pet I do not believe even reaches landspeeder speed. If terrain navigation gets transfered I believe the burstrun bonuses should apply to some degree (If that was implied sorry I didn't catch it). Maybe an accuracy bonus as ranger gets higher "level" while on pets, but hey that is just brainstorming. Heh, sorry for ranting.

Lets see if i can remember the numbers. A person burst runs at 7m/s walks at 4. An X-34 is 11m/s Speeder 13 m/s Swoop 17 m/s with slowdowns due to hills and such differing with each type.. And a kaduu/Carrion Spat on Gallop is 11m/s while walking is 7 m/s. So we can keep up with it in on Gallop. And my Cu'pa can gallop for quite a long distance. But you cant fire at all from a vehicle where you can from a mount. A vehicle cant defend you like a mount can either. And sometimes, its rare, but sometimes your just not in a rush to get from point a to b. Also add that a mount takes no maintence to constantly repair. And its a draw. Last night i kept my Cu'pa out while the others were on their bikes. I was just harvesting anyway. So it worked out nice.

I love being a CH for my pets and mounts. I love the fix for BE to make them strong. And im proud to be a ranger because i can hide from the red cons on those times im just exploring. Mounts have their place. I think most of the players just havent really seen why yet. They'll learn. As for CH's being just mounters and trainers. Its ok because we can charge for it. And train a pet fully. I still think a CH or a CH/Ranger should get a bonus from using a mount. But I can think of a dozen other things to fix before that one.

Hi, I agree, I am new, but I have only seen 2 people while playing in and around theed for 2 weeks. I need my Falumpaset trained though. Would any of you guys out there be willing to train it for me? I'm sorry if this is the wrong time to ask this, but I would like to be on my mount riding around I have to go to bed (big day tomorrow) so I will be on later tomorrow afternoon.
