Thread: Does anyone 'else' have problems milking faamba?

Okay, this is driving me Quackers. [smiles] I'm a BE girl, so naturally when I see a Faamba I charge over to it with a DNA sampler in one hand and a milking pail in the other.

But, I seem to have 'problems' with Faamba. I did a search on the boards, and found no reference to this, so I decided if anyone would know it would be scouts maybe, as they're in the wilds a lot. So here's my question.

Do Faamba need to be laying down to milk them? I seem to have this problem, walk up to a laying Faamba, I can gather milk with no problems. Walk up to a Faamba standing still, and manage to gather the milk...no problems. I seem to run into trouble when:

a. it moves (even just a little)

b. I have to move to stay within range (even if it's just a little)

Now, I'm quite good at keeping close...within a meter or two. But whenever this move just a little happens, suddenly the creature has moved too far to milk...'permenantly'.

Even if at some point it lays down, and sits perfectly still..I can 'literally' stand at 0 meters choose gather milk...and I get the same message over and over again. It cleared once when someone shot at one, then ran off, and suddenly I was able to milk it again, but these things are huge, and I'm not in a position to fight one, even for a bit. Are faamba bugged in this way? Has anyone 'else' had this problem. This has 'never' effected me for 'any' other milkable critter. Kaadu...Ikopi...what have you. Oh, sure, it'll say out of range if it 'moves' out of range...but I can get right back to milking if I get back into range and try again. But not with faamba.

Had anyone else experienced this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! [smiles]

Lady,

I haven't. But ten bucks says that the milking is measured from the center of the critter, and on a biggie like a Famby, when she's up and walking, her center is going to be higher up than you are. Hence, no milky.

But that's just an idea, nothing authoritative.

I was also thinking the distance was measured from the center, but today I tried milking some fambaa that were prone, and it kept saying they moved too far away---there were prone, mind you---and I was near the neck. However, when I milked from near the rear, between the hind legs and the tail, it worked every time.

When they are moving, I have my best luck staying nearer their front legs, which may just be a lag thing, but it seems to hold true for me.

Marco,

I believe that you can only milk wild creatures - not tamed ones.

Yes we were bitching about the Fambaa a couple of weeks ago. They get too far away even if lying down. My theory (along with the "hitbox" theory) is the same reason why if you dismount from a bike sometimes you get rubberbanded (backwards) or slingshotted (forwards) a few hundred meters. It's because the server thinks the object (you, a fambaa) is still moving when the client sees it as stationary. It's also why when things die or when things go prone they "slide" at times.

Even if the Fambaa is prone to your client, to the server it's still moving.

In short : it's a bug. Fambaa suck.

It totally sucks too LadyCalla, I feel your pain.. if I see a fambaa, as a scout/BE my eyes become dollar signs for a few seconds. It's a horrible tease.

What we need is for artisans to craft step-ladders, of if that's too un-starwarsy...repulsor-lift platforms.

Marcobuen, you need to have maskscent up when you attempt to milk. Without it, the milking target will be spooked and you won't be able to milk it.

Also, you can't milk tamed creatures. The option doesn't come up.

they are milkable, I don't think that's the problem. They just generate the "too far away" error message way too often.

the fambaa skeleton has been adjusted once already... and specific patch-notes noted this.

fambaa (and snakes, incidentally) USED to be a real pain for brawlers, because while you were LISTED as in-range, the mob could bash you... but your combat log spammed 'that target is out of range.'

while fambaa and snakes are now more easily dealt with by melee... the problem with the skeleton seems to still exist, if only for milking.

as noted above... client and server 'disagreement' over your actual location seem to compound these problems (and /dismount warps, and /kneel or /prone warps, and sitting in a chair, and... the list goes on).
