Thread: Gang the answer to our question of the week
Gang,
Here's TH response to our question.
Scout
"With the removal of the need for camps to call pets many Scouts and Rangers have begun to consider camping unnecessary, as everything they use a camp for (healing, calling pets, vehicles and mounts) is better accomplished through another game feature. What do the Devs see as the primary reason for calling camps in the wild, and what do they think is necessary to make camping a more useful skill in the game?"
That is a great question, especially since the core needs and design of camps has changed so dramatically. We think the best ideas we have to make camps more useful are from the community. One aspect to consider here though is that the scout profession is a novice profession and while some attention will be on making it a fun experience, the core effort will inevitably be placed on elite professions. That doesn’t mean we are going to abandon scouts for sure. As new players come into the game, these novice professions represent their initial game experience so it is important and we want to make it as fulfilling an experience as possible.
This is good! The Devs have read the camping proposal that N'Raas developed and we signed on to, and this is proof that they think it's a good idea.
It's also good that they recognize that despite the fact that we're a starter profession, we need our skills to work because some newer players will take their experiences with Scouting and apply them to the rest of the game. Hopefully we'll be able to get this attention into the 10.1 mini-publish and see some love for our camps.
I'm pleased with this answer because it acknowledges the hard work that we've put into that camp proposal.
And yes, I'm an optimist, and yes, I can be patient and wait that long.

yes we did, it's still double speak and BS. Sorry but I prediced his answers to many of the questions, sad part is I was basically right.
That is a great question, (if only he had an answer) especially since the core needs and design of camps has changed so dramatically. (we made them useless and that the only defference between a basic camp and a portable base is the size and the materials to craft them ) We think the best ideas we have to make camps more useful are from the community. (knock yourselves out comming up with good ideas to keep busy and stop bugging us ) One aspect to consider here though is that the scout profession is a novice profession and while some attention will be on making it a fun experience, the core effort will inevitably be placed on elite professions. (we don't like dabblers or jack of all trades) That doesn’t mean we are going to abandon scouts for sure. (the rest is just filler to make you feel loved) As new players come into the game, these novice professions represent their initial game experience so it is important and we want to make it as fulfilling an experience as possible.
Sorry guys I was a Journalist I know how to make nothing sound like something and that is exactly what TH is doing, and not even well. He is trying to put the best PR spin on it he can (which is his job) but more and more it sounds like SOE is in way over their heads with this game and the expectations people had.
Sorry delta I know you like to keep things light but I was really looking forward to some actual communication comming from TH. I feel like the old lady in the Wendy's commerical from the 80's Wheres the Beef?
Talon,
I'm know what you mean - and the funny thing is, I asked TH to rewrite the first draft because it was "not meaty" enough.
This was much better than the first time. ![]()
It's not much, but I think it's good that they are taking our ideas and using that as their baseline.

*noticed it right from the getgo*

I feel the same and am tired of it. Perhaps you and some of the scouts that feel the same way would be willing to come over to the Ranger forum in the thread "Rangers are useless--Even Chefs Agree".
Thank you for your time

All he really said was, "Scout is WAAAAAAAY on the bottom of the list right now."
Gang,
Well, what did you expect? We're a novice profession, 90% of our stuff works, and we're not the flavor of the month. We've gotten a lot of changes through despite this, but the Devs have a lot of stuff on their plates, and we all know it.
I'm willing to wait for the publish 10 mini-publish, if it means we can get some camping changes added in.

Well as I said what I expected pretty much happened, What I wanted was something more from 19 answers than the catch all "wait for the combat balance", and we are working on it.
I have no problem waiting for scouting changes, I do belive that 90% of teh profession works, but some this is what we have planed or we specifically liked this idea would have been nice.
Delta, what I thought when I read the scout answer for camps, was pretty much the same thing. They recognize it, think we have some good ideas as a scout/ranger community, and want to make it at least somewhat better. We all know camping is all but worthless atm, and I don't anyone really uses them for any real purpose outside of gaining the survival xp.
Based on TH answer about scout being novice, my take on it was this. They wish to improve camping, but not make it spectacular and awesome, since scout is a novice profession. My concern at that point was, "what about rangers, who just extend camping?"
So I proposed they do as intended with camps for scout, and then drop camps completely out of ranger. Ranger will have all the camping ability from master scout anyway. Replace the camping line in ranger, with something totally new and different. Preferrably some of the stuff we have in the Outdoormans proposal. For example, the creature To Damage bonus, Creatures Dodge bonus, some other combat fucntionality, to roll us more into the CB as well as GCW. As both communities know, ranger needs something to distinguish itself from scout, and for the points, it would be nice to actuall be "combat support" class.
Anyhwho that was my thoughts, that I posted both in TH 19 answers post, and in ranger forums. What do you think? What do the scouts think?
I'm not saying that I'm not willing to wait. I'm just saying he really didn't say anything.
