Maugh,

We've still got our request for fishing nets and fish harvestors up on the Scout State of the Profession, so I know the Devs have seen it. I haven't heard anything about fish.

I'll let you know as soon as I can if there are any changes coming up.

And we do have survival as well, so that's a possibility. I think that we'll figure out the way it works....when we first start doing it.

At what level? Master, or somewhere lower on the skill tree? Frankly I'd hope for this to be a Master-level ability, because while as a Master Bio-Engineer I'd like to see more milk available, I'd also hate for it to flood the market (as it were).

That's an interesting issue, where to put the milking ability. I don't agree that it should be a master only skill, look at the hides, bones, and meat markets and they arefairly healthy (on thegalaxies I play anyway). So I suppose it could start at novice and scale with tree, like hunting does. If it is scaled to a tree, I thinkSurvival would make the most sense. Exploration and Trapping are right out, and you could argue that milking a wild beast (must supress pun-impluse) is more a skill Survival skill than Hunting. Although, either one would be a stretch.

Guys,

I still haven't gotten an idea on how this is going to be implemented, but if I had to guess, I would think it would be linked to our harvesting ability. Saves a lot of new coding to just tie it to something that's already in there.

Its simple.

It will go under the Hunting category, which is what gives the Creature Harvesting Skill ups.

The higher you go the more units you will be able to obtain. Just like all the other resources (meat, bone, hide)

"Why herbivores?"

Probably for the same reason milkable farm animals are herbivores...

  • They don't bite try to bite your arm off if you start milking them.

Though... I guess a herbivore could get testy if your hands were cold, and kick you.

But if we want to go that route, then only domesticated animals should be milkable, and no one would want that.

From what I read on the test-center publish update...they've added a mollusk/crustacean survey tool and you can only milk some animals and have to be maskscented to do so.

From what Ive read in the ranger forums, milk and eggs will NOT depend on your harvesting skills for quantity. The drop is random, although, from what Ive read the quantity will also depend on the type of animal you are milking. Certain types of animals will yield a higher quantity. Its ONLY the mask scent from the scout tree that will count as milking being somewhat "scout-related". Also, Camo kits from the ranger tree works the same way, taking away the uniqueness from the scouts and rangers when it comes to milking, as rangers can use camokits on non-rangers, who then can proceed with milking.

IF, however, this is not true, and your findings contradict this, then please inform us, as the rangerboards are screaming in disgust over this new system.

Brisc on TC doesn't have Master Ranger, so I can't confirm whether or not a camo'd guy can milk. But so far I've been average between 15-30 milk per session.

Read more on the milking testing thread below this one for more info from all of us who are trying it.

A player concealed by a Ranger can milk.

it is quite odd that youuse camo and mask scent to milk an animal....

If somebush were to grab my teats while im eating...i'd sure as hell be surprised no matter what he smells like.
