Thread: From Novice to Master How to Become a Master Scout 5.0 (Post-CU Updated, 27 June 2005)
Reb,
If you're a hardcore PvPer, don't bother with Ranger.
But if you're a hardcore hunter, go for it.
Frankly, I do a mix of both, and I've been happy with it.

One tip for scouting xp
Hit Mask Scent and get on a vehicle. Drive around and look for red mobs, Did the exploration tree in no time at all. Doing Hunting now ![]()
Hi guys,
I am a Novice Scout and Novice Marksman(woman) Anyway, I have only been playing for 3 days, and am trying to find tips to help explain the game. This post was very good, I took notes and will use them. I have a few questions I hope you can answer. I obviousy started with a pistol, but a very nice guy gave me a carbine wepon (slug throwing or something like that) anyway he said that it was a great wep, and that I didnt need to be certified for it. later i found a carbine laser wepon, which i thought was really cool. so I bought it. I was using it and was not really paying attention to the damage I was doing. Although it did seem slow, but i thought that was normal. After surviving a rebel mission surrouded by red dots. A kind lady asked me and my groupmate to her house. We listened to music, which i now understand was healing us. and she made bone armor and gave my friend the stuff to make simpacks. She asked me what wep i was using and I proudly said a laser carbine. and she asked if i was sure iwas certified for it.... oops! no i was not. how do i get certified? and after reading this i want to get a wepon that can be used in close quarters. like a sword i guess. Do i need to be certified for that? Also how do you get a pet? Do you have to train in a skill and then run out and target a baby animal and click on a Tame button or something? Maybe there is another guide out there that explains this and more for very newbie people. I am a 4+year EQ player, so I dont think i am hopeless. But this game is so much more involved ... or so it seems.
Any help is appreciated!

Jenn,
Welcome aboard!
"no i was not. how do i get certified? "
Once you select the "marksman" profession, you gain a number of certifications for weapons. If you know you aren't certified, you know where to look to tell. You gain certifications by moving up through the skill trees. As you move up the carbine tree in marksman, you'll get certified to use a wider array of weapons.
If you still like carbines, once you've mastered all four boxes and earned enough XP, you can pick up the carbineer profession, which will give you more certifications. You can use a weapon you aren't certified for, but the weapon will decay (become damaged) faster, and you won't get the same damage or speed from it.
"and after reading this i want to get a wepon that can be used in close quarters. like a sword i guess. Do i need to be certified for that?"
Yup. In order to be certified for swords, you'll need to pick up the "Brawler" profession. Pistols are also good for close quarters, and they're part of the marksman tree as well. All the weapons certifications are listed in the skills screen when you click on a skill box.
"Also how do you get a pet? Do you have to train in a skill and then run out and target a baby animal and click on a Tame button or something?"
You can purchase a level 10 or below pet from a Creature Handler, or you can purchase a droid from a Droid engineer - they work the same way as pets. If you want to be able to train a pet, you need to become a Creature Handler. In order to do that, you need to progress through both the Exploration and Hunting skill trees in the Scout profession. Once that's done and you get enough XP to qualify as a novice Creature Handler, you can train that profession. Then you will be able to go out into the wilderness, find babies, and if they are of the appropriate level, tame them. You can read more about this on the Creature Handler's forum. Much of this stuff is also on the in-game holocron and in the manual.
Don't worry - it's not that much more complicated. It just seems that way because it's new. Read over some of the other forums, check the fan sites, and read the other guides that other players have put out. It should be a good start. And if you have any more questions, feel free to come on back and ask some more.

Hi again, and thanks for the answers Brisc!
I have gained even more scouting and trapping experiance. So far I am having loads of fun. I trained in entertainer and medic as well so that I could; as you said have a well rounded character. I went to the entertainer boards looking for info on how to make my flute or whatever it is that i can play. I need a few pieces to craft it with my generic tool. Anyway, the board was no help, they seem to be in a state of discontent about AFK xping or something. Can anyone here point me in the right direction for the components i need to craft the instrument. Also the simpacks as well. Can i buy these things from the bazaar terminial? Should i just buy the simpacks and not bother with making them?
Thanks for the help in advance~

Jenn,
I wouldn't worry about picking up an instrument - you can dance for your entertainer points, and its just as good and doesn't require an instrument. Just type /startdanceto start and /stopdance to stop. But if you are set on it, you should probably purchase one off of the bazaar. In order to manufacture an instrument, you'd need to have artisan. And unless you plan on doing some resource scouting, is probably not worth it. So I would say go buy a slitherhorn off the bazaar and save yourself the time.
As for the Simpacks - you can make them yourself using you generic crafting tool. If I recall correctly, you need both organic and inorganic materials. This isn't tough to get.
Your organic is anything that you can harvest - meat, bone or hide.
Inorganic is any resource that's not beenalive - metal, fiberplast, petrochemical, etc. You can get these off the bazaar.
Pop them in the slots of your crafting tool, keep clicking next til you get yourself a finished Stim. That's all ya need to do.
For everything you can craft, your crafting tool will tell you what you need to have to do it.
Buying stims is generally easier than making them yourself but being new, you'll need the money more on other things. Better to buy the resources and craft them yourself for now.

Only fast way to get XP:
Go to Tatooine and hang outside Bestine and wait for a hunt to form. You will pull 5-10K of combat and scout XP in the space of a few hours, not to mention loads of high quality high energy meat woth thousands on the market.
Maybe is just me... but i liked getting 4 kinds all in one.... I just needed entertainer around and it would have been great (kinda drains your mind pool a little too fast with all that healing)
just a tip... dunno if anyone else did this before... prolly did... but I just needed to post it...
Nom,
I enjoyed doing exactly what you were doing for that fleeting three days that I had all three professions. ![]()

is it possible to master 3 professions at once?(master artisan, scout and marksman) never been much of a math person...
