Good to see you've "tamed" your son...

LOL... tamed well indeed. Actually he enjoys it, cause he kills kreetles and little things and then sets up the tent again.

He gets a kick out of it!

ok I just disbanded camp after 33 minutes and it gave me 780 xp..so that suked. I crafted things too. I guess that doesnt help.

I foraged too and had my mouse droid patrolling (thought he may count as a visitor,no luck)

I think animal pets count as visitors.

Lets figure this out...

I have been playing this game for about 2-3 weeks now and have been working my way up the scout and carbine trees. I also have artisan but only for surveying, i don't intend to be a full time crafter.

I am currently on Trapping4, Explore3, Hunt3 and survival3.

I have never once created a camp unless I or someone else needed it. I sometimes (but not always) put up a camp while samping to help my regen rate.

I have about 3/4 of the xp needed for survival 4 and cannot understand what the problem is here. I have never liked grinding xp and so far i haven't done that in SWG. I can't speak for any other professions but it seems to me that scouts use all of their skills naturally and the xp rolls in without me noticing it.

I do alot of missions because hunting/harvesting/earning cash all seem to go hand in hand, but other times I just roam around solo and hunt whatever happens to be around. Try getting a carbine, that drains your HAM alot quicker than other weapons (this may be a bug, we aren't sure what is being done about it yet). So I tend to camp alot to get rid of my damage/wounds quicker.

Good try, Hollow... Too bad nobody was listening.

I'm nearing Survival 4 and have also never built any non-necessary camps. I think you get way more camping xp (certainly faster) if people heal not only temporary damage but wounds, too. So you can just play the game for fun, go hunting for big game or whatever, then pitch a multiperson camp and let medics heal people up. You break the camp down in 2 minutes and you've jut gotten a crapload of xp.

Of course, I'm sort of aiming towards the Creature Handler route, so I don't care about Survival XP so much, and I'm sure as everybody has noticed, it always seems like you get XP slower if you actually care about it, because you're sitting there powerleveling whatever it is. For example, I'm trying to gather as much regular scout experience as I can to get to Creature Handler, and I've sort of accidentally gotten traps and survival and polearm and rifle and engineering up to or almost to 4 without really noticing or trying. One of those silly perversity of the world kind of things. If only I could convince myself that I really cared about being a master tailor; then I'd accidentally have gotten up to master creature handler already...

I guess my advice is:
* powerlevelling survival xp in camps by yourself = slow
* multiperson camps with groups that need healing = fast, plus talking with your group members and making things for people and trading stuff with group members is fun and makes the time spent in the camp go by faster, anyways.

Are any of you powergamers scouts for any particular reason? Just wondering.

Well I am just trying to get Bounty Hunter, kinda annoying to have to go up the camp tree. I mean, ya I group and what not but there is ALMOST ALWAYS another scout in the group so I barely ever get that xp. I mean I have practically all of the other requirements for BH (including the 40k combat xp), and I set up camps when I need to, not to powerlevel it, and I still don't have survival IV. I don't want it to get to the point where I have to sit there and TRY to get survival xp, but its looking like that is gonna be the way it goes soon. =(

I have to admit, if that were the ONLY thing keeping me from BH, I would probably be camping for a couple of days straight. Just get it over with if you don't especially want to do anything else. That's the only advise I can give anyone. The DEVs have not changed survival XP very much, just making it larger and larger between tiers to adjust. Don't expect it to change at all, expect it to get worse as the servers mature. Get it over with now, before further nerfing comes down the pipe, that's again, my only advise.

I camp to heal up and take a load off for a minute (I never go in groups anymore.). And I kind of like the idea. Nobody in Beta had a big problem with it. Takes too long, sure, but EVERYTHING takes longer than we want it to. They have to do it this way, because there aren't too many options as to how else you could get it. If you weren't doing something completely safe and unskilled, you'd be skinning things or randomly determining some other variable that we'd probably all think was even farther off the mark than simply making a camp and sitting in it for a half hour. Frankly, if you had camped a little more...I just find it fascinating that you could've gotten 40000 combat experience points, and you haven't gotten your camping yet. You sir, are a master grinder, indeed. I salute your fortitude.

Here's a suggestion. Instead of just boring yourself to tears and going off for the next 2 days doing nothing but camping afk (whining the whole time about how much UNfun you're having), why don't you take some of the ideas that have been given here and give them a try?

Heck - take all that hard-ground loot you've stored up and hire a medic/entertainer team to sit with you in a revolving camp outside the Tusken Fortress... Advertise the heck out of your nice multi-person camp and try to actually have FUN with it instead of bitching and moaning because the Devs don't have your particular brand of fun down to a tee - which from what I can tell from some of you is gaining 'experience' or gaining 'levels' or running 'treadmills' (as long as they're short or 'fun'). Or heck, even for some of you that only being a certain profession can possibly be 'fun'. (Course, I can't wait to see how you're doin when ya finally get there and find out the grass ain't all that green...)

Well the 40k really wasn't that hard... I mean all you have to do is find the right creatures and you will have the xp in no time, it didn't even feel like a grind because of the fact that it was fun! I didn't spend all of my time on one creature, I did a lot of different things on several planets. See the reason that I think this survival xp is insane (the point of starting this thread was not really complaining just looking for advice on how to camp really, or at least make it fun and not a grind. I REALLY don't like grinding because it seems like it takes longer! So ya, I was just trying to find some way to make it interesting. Guess I will get some other skills or something while I am camping, thanks!

Well I am gonna try some of these methods (except the whole taming your kid thing.....), and go try to finish off my 17k of Survival XP needed to advance uggghhh. I wish that this part wasn't part of the BH tree!

Getting the XP solo will be a real pain, period.

But, if you're in a group, every member healing in your camp decreases the amount of time it takes to max out the camp proportionately. If you or a member of your group is a medic, healing wounds actively in a camp makes it go even faster.

When I was sampling resources a lot by hand, I would do that in camp. I would also sit in camp while crafting traps. These things have been mentioned already, of course.

I just refuse to spend my game time simply sitting around in camp, so I haven't maxed Survival yet. But, every group I'm in, even duoing, helps immensely.

Good luck.
