Brisc
again thanks for getting back and answering some of the questions and providing some details. I won't say I agree with you, but you do have the civility and intelligence to make some decent posts and you do answer back in a timely fashion.
I wish some of the other correspondents could have at least thrown us some more insight like you did. I am sure by talking in generalities it wouldn't break the NDA.
I will agree that many in this game when they joined wanted to become Jedi. However no one could have imagined it would be under this system with countless Jedi parading around starports and dominating combat etc. I also doubt that many expected that our unique path to the force would involve the hologrind scenario frind. I doubt that SOE even with this next patch will have solved that grinding process, and probably even made it more of a longer process to keep people in the game. Playing with psychological addiction is SOE's specialty. If they wanted to stop hologrinding they could have just stopped it...period. A better solution would have been a moratoriumon all jedi activity without resporting to twom patches.
I will also agree that in practice scout isn't broken per se. However outside of the ability to harvest meat there isn't alot else that is contributory with the profession to the overall galaxy. Yes terrain negotiation is good, but once mounts and speeders came into play, it wasn't that big of a deal. In the old days when walking was a factor sure terrain negotian could save your ass, or get you to and from your destination alot quicker. Now it is just a nice feature.
You mentioned about the NDA, that SOE doesn't want to make promises it can't keep. I almost spilled my coke on me key board. This game since I purchased it at launch over a year ago, has been just that: false promises. The game in teh box and what I read in my manual looks and plays nothing like the real thing. Sorry I might be being a bit picky here, but truthfully I would have loved to hear the devlopment teams explanation as to why there have been so many false promises and lies put forth to the custiomer base.
I think you are doing a fine job. Compared to some of the other correpondents Ithink that you at least have intelligence and direction and can compile information. my frustration isn't geared toward you, as it is the design team and the original mistakes made by Raph Kosters group. If perhaps they had waited for another year until they released this game all of these problems might have been avoided. If they had a clear undestanding of the psychology of the people, the professions and Star Wars, they perhaps wouldn't have made so many bone headed mistakes and tried to sweep them under the rug.
I know you have met these guys face to face, and once doing so have an aversion to perhaps feeling as strongly as many of us on the forum do. Fortunately I can still drop my ordinance from 1000's of miles away and don't have to worry about the faces of the SOE team, as my text goes on these pages.

I agree with most of what you say Delta, except for their excuse that we will take everything they say as a promise.
We won't as long as it is openly present as a work in progress. Their problem is that they present it as "This is how things will be" rather than "We are thinking about this. How do you feel about it?" They have been burned on that, but it is all because of presentation.
Regardless, it is a cop-out. The correspondents at least have the ability to see some of that thinking (still probably not as much as y'all would like), so it is easier to keep a more positive attitude. We the masses are left completely in the dark. Communication works and a lack of it fosters bad feelings and poor attitudes. Cryptic is setting a wonderful standard that I wish this team and many others would take to heart.
It is not your fault though. It is the devs that need to learn this.

amen!
.....Please don't quit ......lol
As i've said before in the past, people say the don't like what is going on, but if you recall, a lot of the changes that had taken place were asked for in the past........it's just a little longer back than most people try to remember.

Frickin' huge as in I'm six foot four, 240, and he's probably six foot seven or eight and at least 60 pounds heavier.
Scary.
We're testing JTL now - it's early, but lots of fun.

Pushing back the combat balance isn't a broken promise.
If you were a Creature Handler, you would not feel this way. Creatures were changed drastically, and this profession was directly effected by it. We were told that while it would be a tough period that within three months the rest of the game would be put into balance with us.
They scrapped those plans, perhaps rightly so, but for handlers that had already been balanced without any reversion or compensation, this has been a very rough period. We aren't even playing the same game when it comes to combat.
I'm hoping the pain will be worth it in the end, but it really has been rough and in this instance, I would call it a broken promise since TH promised us nothing much would change for the master handlers.
As for communciation, Seiryuu - there isn't a single MMO that has had the level of Developer/Player interaction that SWG has.
City of Heroes. It stomps on the communication levels here. This is not hyperbole.
Maybe the communication is great on the correspondent boards. To us players, it is the pits. The experiment with GreenMarine and the Smugglers? That was communication. That is what we should see regularly. (It makes me sad we have to wait for JtL for him to come back to us.) It was all brainstorming, no one is holding his words as promises. Players were able to see his thinking, give feedback in return and hear his response. When we have that regularly, I will happily claim SWG has the best interaction out there.
Maybe with Tyrant things will change. From our perspective we have not seen it yet. We have the lot of you correspondents saying great things are coming, but we have not seen that with our own eyes. The last real communication we got was that supposedly two weeks ago we were going to have a document posted giving us the roles of all professions. We still have not seen it. (Yes, TH got sick and then the summit happened, but this is about perceptions. Most players don't "see" those those factors.)
Perception is a huge part of communication and, unfortunately, us regular players still see a lot of room for improvement.
