Thread: Don't like current mask scent break at combat
Guys,
I'll see what I can do, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be successful in lobbying this back to the way it was. I think the Rangers have a much better chance of getting conceal changed.

Squid,
The way N'Raas was explaining it was originally how it was intended.
However, there was a problem in that the Devs had it set based on "shooting" - so TKAs and other non-ranged weapon users weren't having it drop correctly. So it was changed so that the instant you enter combat it drops.
It was in one of the hotfixes - the one from Friday, I believe. It was on Q's big list of "known bugs" in the announcement forums.

Masked scent should not go away because i am fighting something. My fighting doesnt suddenly make me smell funny does it? Its not like the mask scent keeps the creature your fighting from finding you. It at most made it take a shot or 2 longer. Being able to mask scentbeforea fightgave it a purpose. Now all it does is let me run past something that would normally attack me every now and then.
Loki,
The Devs have made it fairly clear that Mask Scent wasn't designed to be a combat skill. It's designed to make you more survivable out there.
The delay that was caused in attacking creatures that gave them a pause wasn't a result of mask scent- it was a bug. That's why if you attacked a social critter, his friends nailed you while he stood around like a dope. But that was fixed, and had nothing to do with mask scent.
Mask scent breaking in combat makes sense because up until the point that you fired, you were stealthy. The noise and the light from your weapon (if it were a bullet it would be different - these are bright red laser blasts here) give your position away. So it makes sense.
Theres no penalty for restarting mask scent, so I think it is fine the way it is now. It's working effectively now better than it ever has.
Now for Ranger /conceal - I agree that that shouldn't break on combat, because you're doing more than just putting deodorant on. ![]()

i'm as miffed as everyone else seems to be about the recent 'fix' to maskscent. But, you have to realize that sneaking up to a nest/herd with your 'don't-mind-me-I'm-just-a-harmless-Durni' maskscent on makes it more difficult for the creatures to notice you. But even the dumbest animal will take notice of a 'another creature' firing away like mad at the herd.
I'm REALLY upset tho at the fact that a Master Scout can't go anywhere w/out every single creature seeing through the maskscent. Since the recent update, I probably have less than a 30% success rate w/ maskscent. That has got to be addressed. My fighting partners, w/ very little Scouting skills, have a much better success w/ maskscent than I do as Master Scout. Walking by any aggros seems to trip my maskscent & i have to fight or run like mad, while my DroidEng & Pistoleer partners strool by the nest/herd with little or no difficulty. What's the point of Master Scout if he's got a giant 'plz-attack-me' sign over him?
Chuba,
You're the first person to complain about the effectiveness of mask scent since the patch.
I think you've hit a string of bad luck there.
Like I said before, if you are staying more than 40m away from the guys, and your mask scent is up, you won't get aggroed. And if you are walking or crawling, you've got less of a chance of it getting hit. That may be why your friends are having more success.
