I'd have to say that it's your own gosh darned fault if you don't proclaim the harvesting rules beforehand, not everyone knows what "you" might think is acceptable or even if your looking for scouting exp.

Best idea is to let them know how you wanna do it that way this kinda stuff doesn't happen. Don't blame others for your lack of communication in-game. Let them know how you wanna hunt and things will go fine.
