Thread: Scouting and Grouping don't mix?
This is one of those professions that you just need to grind out. I have gotten mask scent to work on occation, but nothing great.
My strategy has been to take bocat missions. After taking out the initial guys I will respawn them. This works well for me, ans I am getting about 3k per kour.
Use those huge groups to get your weapon xp.
Than go for hunting and get scout xp. The amount of scout xp you get per critter is not based on con color. It's based on (absolute difficulty of the critter)/(hunting skill). And yes, the more hunting skill you have, the less scout xp you get from harvesting a critter. This is one of the resons why xp caps got implemented.

Bocat missions? can you explain more please.
If anyone knows of a better mob to kill (xp and easy kills) please share them.
Plus the money is about 1300c per mission so that is a bonus, of just running around looking for things to kill.
(Big light comes from the sky saying scouting xp this way).
I think a couple of scouts working together shouldn't be a problem. They could each throw a different type of trap or two and build exp and they still get battle xp if they need it. You should be able to take down mobs twice as fast so there will be the same number of corpses to harvest. If you took on bigger mobs, you'd get more harvesting experience also wouldn't you?
Making camps xp would be cut in half for sure.
Everyone should take turns. I've already grouped with some ninja harvesting scouts and while I didn't say anything to them, I'll let them know here on this board, that when I try to harvest multiple corpses and there's nothing on them and we haven't talked about some kind of mutual agreement, you can expect to find your name on my, and many other players, bad list pretty quick.
I have no problems reporting the names of people who don't play fairly on this board.

One of the reasons, why I don't like grouping in games which are released newly is: Do the people know the game? Do I know the game? Is my anger based on false assumptions? Are people who are angry to me going to give me the opportunity to express myself, or do they just stamp me with 'bad guy'?
No offense, but you know that there are Brawler-Scouts? And do you know thatseveral critters have nothing to harvest?

Lyfisin,
I really hope you just typed your statement wrong, but if not you'rethe bigger problem.
You state that "I didn't say anything to them" AND "we haven't talked about some kind of mutual agreement"
Yet given the fact you state you dont even talk to the players in game or try to setup some harvesting rules in a group you are willing to run straight to the boards and proclaim the guilty..
I'm hoping you will comeback and say "Opps I typed that wrong" or atleast come back and post your ingame name so I can avoid you. People that wont talk ingame about looting/harvesting issues, but want to flame on the boards are a bigger problem than ninja-harvesters..

My in-game name is Orion and I play on Lowca.
I didn't mistype anything.
I consider it common courtesy to discuss these types of events "before" the issues arise. The other harvester in our group knew that I was capable and yet every mob that I attempted to /harvest had already been done without any discussion about each others needs. It wasn't after just a mob or two. It was through 8 kill missions.
Do I know if he was MMORPG savy? I didn't ask him, but my feeling based upon a number of things told me that he was. He obviously wasn't a newbie.
Yes, I know that some creatures don't drop stuff, but this wasn't the case. After I had noticed the trend, I looted one at my feet and the stuff was there.
As a player, I wouldn't consider /harvesting a creature until I not only discussed it with the other scout type players, but also with the "non" harvesters who I have also freely shared my bone and hide with them. It's a group effort. It's group loot.
As I'm sure you noticed, I didn't mention the players name. I wouldn't do so unless there was a lot more reason than just this. But I have noticed several posts of messages talking about ninja looters and my comments were made to let them know that that kind of behavior is not appreciated.
I could have done things differently, and in any situation like this, I learn a thing or two as well. When I notice it next time, I'll probably open up the dialogue. Sometimes it's just interesting to see how far these people will go.
If you'd like to avoid me in game, that's ok. I'm not concerned about the opinions of a few individuals who get the wrong impression about me by reading a few lines of text or the involvement in any single incident. I certainly haven't formed any kind of long lasting opinions about this particular person.Anyone who has grouped with me knows what kind of person I am and you won't find many in the game who care about making sure they do what's right than I do.
I'm certainly not the bigger problem.

you are also aware there is harvesting chat logging??
Ask the group leader to turn it on (why its not defalulted to on I ahve no clue)
Here is how I handle most groups Pickup group.
1) discuss harvesting plans. If I dont like them Leave.
2) Ask the group leader to turn on harvest chat logging. If he wont I leave.
Now I can monitor who is harvesting and visually see if someone is not playing fair.
And no I dont know the slash command to turn on the chat logging. I'm at work right now =(

Well, with the end of beta all those notifications didn't work. So if you agree to some kind of harvesting, the only thing you can do is trust your teammates. I don't know whether those commands work now.
You can look for those group commands, if you type /group help (or something like that).
Basan,
Your 1) never happened which was, no doubt, the most significant issue with what happened. As the above poster said, the looting thing doesn't show, at least not when I tried it in my groups. And I did try. I thought it would be easier to split the hide/bones that way, but my party members didn't get any, nor did they see the message that I looted, although that may have been fixed. I read how to turn on the commands in the manual. Even if it works, I wonder how the game handles the surplus split. In EQ, and I hate comparing these two games because they're vastly different. If a mob dropped 3 plat and there were 4 people in your group, the looter got 3pp and the rest got nothing. Only time will tell on this one.
If there is a harvesting log somewhere, I'm not aware of it, although I'll admit it could be there behind my main chat window somewhere. I detest the thought of feeling the need to look at something like that.
I try to announce my lootsand I try to split them evenly. It gets difficult because I use some for traps and I'm not sure what the etiquette on that is yet. Should I just keep totalling every loot and then split evenly when I'm done, or should I consider the trap resources that I used part of the adventure and just split the leftover. Opinions will probably vary on this one.
There are two schools of thought regarding discussing loot before pickup groups take off and I think they both have valid points.
Some people think that even "asking" about loot before you take off makes one appear greedy. Personally, I don't feel that way. I prefer, as you seem to, to make sure everyone is on the same page before you take off so that no issues arise. Since I don't know which way people are going to perceive it, I generally don't ask and hope the group leader will announce the rules or that people will choose to do the right thing. Then I hope that their "right thing" is in line with my ideas as well. Sometimes it just doesn't work out like that.
Reading again my first post, I guess it did come out a little harsher than I had intended it to.
Regards.
