The speed you travel and your "state" are critical factors in success as well. Try walking rather than running (Holding SHIFT key while moving forward) and you will be able to get closer to reds and they will not detect you as often.

Also, go PRONE and move forward. It is slow- but with Maskscent on I can crawl much closer to Reds, or past them as the case may be.

They built in at least these 2 methods of moving cautiously so give them a try.

I have been prone and crawled up to a lair! Nothing!!! The skill works in a sense, reds do not attack me, but I do not recieve any XP for it whatsoever. So a throwaway skill? Hmmm... It works, but I never get XP. I have tried every possible combination... I have tried using it before fights, walking, running, crawling, you name it... I have tried killing all creatures and turning it on before I hit the lair which seems to work, but I still get no XP for it. So as far as I am concerned it is a throwaway skill.

I will try the crazed dunris tonight. They are one of the best XP creatures there is for lower levels. They are big on XP, low on danger. They give good hides! Crazed dunris rank an easy 4 or a hard 5 on a 1-5 scale for soloing creatures. If this works they will be a shoe-in for a five.

Are you two talking about Durnis? Crazed...Durnis?

Anyway, discovering the mob that works with /maskscent is indicative of something, right? There's one mob, or two, or three, or fifteen out there that works with /maskscent reliably. If, say, full auto only worked against the Rorian Charred Krevol, would this strike anyone as odd?

On corellia there is a creature - Crazed Dunari - these are red but also agrra - Theseare the creatures you need to find for mask scent to work.

These are white to me - so I take 2 destroy missions out of Kor Vella on Corellia - it does 3 things. I get 2000 credit for the mission. I get 352 carbine per critter + 400 more for the nest - it spawns about an average of 10 per lair. I go prone , mask scent and when I target and shoot the first one - instant scout XP for the mask scent - usually 14 - 20 per creature. 2 lairs will net 4000 credit, 4000 carbine & 1000 combat, & 200 scouting. Can do 2 missions in about 45 minutes.

The creatures have to try and detect you and that is what sets off the mask scent protection.

the other trick is sometimes you need to walk not run past the aggra's running makes them hear you not smell you.

Odd? Mybe for a finished product. Seeing as we are participating in Beta 4 it is not odd at all. This is a minor bug compared to all of the Major game destroying bugs out there. That said, this will probably be the last thing they ever fix on their priority list.

I don't know if this was stated before, but are you aware that maskscent is a roll of dices against a creature ?

Every time you encounter an aggro, a virtual dice rolls and assign you and the mob a value. This value is divided (or multiplied, I am not sure)foryour camouflage skill modifier and confronted with values of awareness of the mob. If you gain a value higher than the mob you receive exp and you succed in maskscent.

So, if a mob is a HIGH level (say, conned red), probably you will be easily discovered.

That's why may says it works only with some mobs. But it's not completely true. In fact it works with everyone but it fails with higher mobs. I.e. i never received exp from Mottled Wrix (red for me) but i received exp from carzed durnis, giant gubburs, scyk (tatooine) etc ... say, mobs that are conning white or blue to you.

Even your level fo Exploration skill (and for ranger of Wayfaring) is included in the calculation.

In that way, I maxxed exploration before Hunting, in order to have a camo more efficient. And it works.

My 2 cents
