Thread: Get around the Mask Scent Nerf!

The problem now is the fail rate of MS (maskscent). If MS fails we are screwed. BUT we CAN turn it on and off as quickly and as often as WE want to don't forget.

So we just have to make sure when approaching a non aggressive creature (yellow triangle) that WE have to shut it off.

Don't let the yellow non aggressive creature make it fail, or then we have to wait.

Once you clear the non aggro, then turn it back on again.

Same holds true with red aggro's.

Once you have hit them for a pass on XP shut it off then on again.(where you determine where to shut it off is the skill and practice part of the game).

BOTTOM LINE Don't let the creatures make your Mask Scent fail....YOU shut it off before THEY can shut it off, then you can turn it right back on again.

Hope this helps.

Yes...as with most commands if you repeat the command it will negate the command. Put the maskscent skill in your toolbar and hit that button (or function key) once and it will turn on...hit it again it shuts off. Repeat as often as you like, you don't have to wait for it to fail for it to shut off.

PS it will also wear off after time if it is not broken in the meantime.

This is an interesting idea for a short term workaround, I'll give it a try. Kep in mind it does not address the problem of yellow and red mixed Mobs or sudden spawning events.

Yeha, it is hopefully a short term work around. I hope they balance all the factors out. Everyone screaming "just make it work better and you can keep your XP!". I say "BS!!!" I want the **edit** XP too!

Balance is all I ask for.

"don't let it fail"

You got to be kidding me. I've been trying every trick to get maskscent to work. After 20 tries, I still have yet to get it to work.

definitely put it in toolbar so you can "mash" it as often and as quickly as possible.

Like many rangers I take great pleasure in running across the most dangerous of planets. Before the maskscent downtime was implemented, it was really easy, and I got tons of experience. Now I get a little less. But what I have found helps is doing exactly as was said, paying attention and constantly turning it on and off. when there are yellows, turn it off, reds turn it on, once you getxp turn it off. if you get caught, sit around for a little, wait the minute, so you can't get jumped by a late spawn. Also, i get xp as far out as 65m. any closer and I ususally get caught, I have around 70 camo skill, I can't remember the actual number. so don't go any closer than 50-60m or you are asking to get caught. These things helped me, but I still get caught alot, and just have to deal with the downtime. Think,In real life itisn't easyto mask your scent against one direction, imagine trying to do it for everything you come across, our scouts and rangers havejedi-powered mask scent if you ask me.

Well this post I made is old now in SWG terms.

I just wanted to add that I am a Master Bothan Scout now with +65 to camo.

And I think the camo is a bunch of crap, I get detected (then torn to shreds) all the time.

Anyone have an insight on the pass/fail rateof maskscent?

Do all these modifiers we have (for any skill) do a **edit** thing?

All the workarounds I'm hearing are like Elvis sightings, really. Nothing works reliably that I've discovered, and I hardly ever even try anymore. Much less actually succeed. Vir Vurs drop my maskscent, 100% of the time so far. Vir Vurs! Come on, dammit.

This is the biggest throwaway skill I have ever seen. I use it along with the /mood snob so players can see I have my nose in the air. Other than that it is useless.

I don't know how anyone can call it a throw away skill. While I can't rely on it to be the only source of Scout experience, I do get quite a bit of experience using this skill.

On the average Serrvot liar I usually manage to kill about 5-6 Serrvots which nets me about 350-400 Scout exp from harvesting. When I throw Mask Scent into the mix I usually manage to get at least 2 successes for 70 Scout Exp each. That is a bonus 140 exp or a 30-50% bounus just for hitting my Mask Scent before I approach the lair.

If this was a throw away skill then for every 10 lairs I destroy I would be throwing away 1400 Scout Exp by NOT using mask scent.

Just learn to use it and it is a great little bonus for you. Don't take the time to learn how to use it and you just have to work harder is all.
