Thread: Best weapon for scouts?

Rifle is better even if the FWG5 Pistol has a higher DPS rating than the T21?
T21 is heavy armor piercing. That triples its actual damage. In addition - at Master Rifleman, you are only 7 rifle speed points away from the speed cap. So basically any rifle that is faster than say, 9.0 is going to be be shooting very, very quickly.

shush... Quickly directs dev attention to this furry animal...
Seriously though Delta is right. A Rifleman at speed cap is very dangerous. I would love some more damage types... (read bring back the kinetic Tusken) but with the heavy armor piercing and good speed I can live with my rifles ... even if I can't do damage to anything with high energy resists. That's what the Jawa Ion is for afterall!

Me and my 880 powered up T21 and 550 powered up Jawa will smack pretty much anything into oblivion.

It's my Jawa that's lacking... that's why I'm still struggling with NS Elders.
For creatures though I did some serious damage to the enhanced critters in the warren last night. With my speed sliced T21.
Back to the matter at hand though...
Rifles are dangerous weapons. They really are nice to have when scouting but you'll find early on (I'm grinding a fresh PvP char so I can attest to this right now) that they are inaccurate. My new rifleman has a DLT20A that hits 250 damage. I can one shot kill anything that cons white... problem is I have to actually HIT the creature. (which is not an easy task while moving up the marksman portion of the tree.)
If you're gonna take rifles make sure you invest in a tank or two. It'll make the lack of accuracy in melee less of an issue if you've got a kaduu or a droid tanking while you climb the tree.
Good Citus Snow Cake is your friend too - +40 odd percent to accuracy.

"Struggling with NS elders" ......Looks at pistols....gee...let me ....
*falls over dead on ground*
*20 minutes later NS Elder strolls up to dead body and laughs*

Triples? Are you sure about that? You get a 25% bonus for each level of AP over AR. So if you were fighting a mob with AR0 you would get 1.25^3 attack bonus or a 1.953125x (95.3125%) bonus. But, also important to remember is that if a mob has vulnerability to the damage type you don't get the AP bonus. So if something is vulnerable to heat and energy and has AR0 you are actually better off using Health Shot 2 and an FWG5 than Head Shot 3 and a T-21 (assuming they have the same DPS).
But, Brisc is right; comparing weapons is tricker than meets the eye. You can't just average the damage and divide by speed. You have to factor in your speed modifiers. For example, even though the speed on my T-21 is 7.4 I can fire all my specials at the speed cap of 1 second because I have +97 speed with Master Marksmen, Master Rifleman and a +2 Rifle speed SEA. So speed isn't really a factor in the equation. You also have to figure in AR vs AP. If AP > AR then you get a bonus that is equal to 1.25^(AP-AR). If AP < AR then you get a penalty that is equal to 1.5^(AR-AP).

Well i can tell you right now, trying to use my Dx2 against a NS elder is like trying to kill a tank with a water gun.........if i was able to hit it for a couple of years, i'm sure it'd rust to death or something..........
I tell ya what...
My T21 eats NS Rangers for lunch.
Put me near an Elder and its more like T-minus... 2... 1. There's no 3.
In the end though NSs don't matter too much. Most creatures take a pretty severe beating from most ranged weapons... and as scouts / rangers that's our target right?
I feel a little stupid right now, me too I’m working my way to Ranger and after reading a lot about the profession I decided to go for Carbines.
Did I make the wrong chose? Is Carbines really that bad for hunters?

Um... Hakai... elders have 100% resists to Acid and heavy armor. Of course using your DX2 is like using a water gun. Your best bet is a DE-10. But, still AP1 vs. AR3 is going to hurt you, big time. In the case of a NS ElderMRM and aT-21 is your best bet with a Master Swordsman and a Powerhammer tanking for you.

LOL.....
you have to think, the ONLY ap weapons that stock Master pistoleers can use with armor piercing is the Dx2, and the Republic blaster (which hasenergy, and energy is the MOST protected against damage type in the game).
and to be honest, not all republic blasters have AP1 to begin with......
also....for the DE-10 there is no way in piddling hootnanny that i'll be able to take on the Deathwatch...a lot of us pistoleers were quite furious with this decision to put our weapon in that place.......that is akin to locking your only car key inside the car for safekeeping........i mean, it's there and all, but you have to get at least another person to help you get it out no matter how you want to do it..........
