Only badly made armor seriously impacts your ham bars. I have nearly a full set of bone armor and it hardly affects me at all.

The only thing I can say about armor, is I survived getting jumped by a kimo... I'm curious how you managed to degrade chitin bp that fast though.

As a Marksman/scout, i personally like armor. Maybe it is more for the cosmetic effect, but i will say that my Ubese armor prevents a hell of alot of damage. It is 20% kinetic resist, and i love seeing the spam that i was hit for 183, but my arm pieces absorbed 94 points of it (or something similar). Another bonus to Ubese armor is that it has two pieces less than Chitinsincethe arm pieces protect the whole arm(less HAM penalties). But, by the same token, damage to condition is not as spread out. In the end, i keep chitin in my pack for soloing destroy missions and let the condition get eaten from it. But when i'm just toolin around, or in a real hunting group, i wear my Ubese. Besides, the cool Boushh helm turns alot of heads still at this early stage when there are only a few sets on the server

I started using chitin armor but I quickly found out that a full suit is practically useless. The penalties dropped almost all of my secondary skills into the double digits. It was appalling. The problem pieces are the helmet, chest and leggings which take anywhere from 100-200 off mind, health and action, respectively.

So, I have taken to using all the arm pieces, the gloves and the boots only. This seems to provide me with pretty good protection without huge stat penalites. On average, I lose a little less than 100 per stat, which is not enough to make a serious difference.

I'm wearing Mabari armor, and I'm taking far less damage than before so less down time, and less of a threat of dying. It's nice to know that if I failed to tranq that even critter I'm not going to have to run to the hills, or get beat half to death. I can kneel where I am and take it out without too much risk to my health. Also degrading armor is a problem, but considering how I'm constantly on the lookout for an upgrade it's not that big of a deal to me. The hard part is getting something back on the beat up armor I have left when I'm through. There is a penalty to stats, but it doesn't outweigh the benefit, and if there is a penalty to skills I haven't noticed it.

The only real problem I have with Mabari armor is the look. Who designed this thing? Hideous, just plain hideous. I'm looking to buy a decent outfit just to wear into Cantinas. I'm embarrassed to wear this in public.

I wear all Mabari and a Bone helmet ( just for something to wear ) and it has helped me stay in solo battles much longer. I was hesitant at first, but I gave it a whirl and now I will stick with wearing armor. The HAM cost is far outweighed by the protection you get. When I can afford it, I will upgrade to Chitin.

A friend of mine gave me a full set of bone armor last night .... I have noticed that my health bars were going down a bit more rapidly than before, but I'm going to try it out a bit longer.

My friend is a scout/marksman, but he's a wookie, so no armor for him :-D

I am going for filling up my scout skills, but to do that i also taken up marksman, using pistol skill. I have also started some unarmed combat (might come in handy some day tho.. who knows.. ), and i found out the following :

1. Ifi am using pistol skill, i always try to avoid going to close combat at all fighting critters, so i will use my special skills to the max (health shot, dive shot++ all you get).

2. If i am using unarmed i need of course to be in close contact with the critter.. but also use whatever means of "special moves" that i can.

So.. I have a full suit of chitin. I found that in BOTH cases, i would have WAY to little to use special moves all the time.. the action bar would be empty too quickly! And i found that my regen is MUCH more without armour.. I have not noticed VERY much less damage taken from melee with chitin, but anyway i would think that it wouldoutweigh the overall kills, cos i wouldbe able to usemore special attacks over a longer period of time, thus the mobs would die quicker and i would actually come out ahead when just using regular clothing.

But.. when doing PvP or killing NPC's that shoot at ya.. the clothes do 0, so i keep my chitin in a backpack, and if i should find out i need to take out some npc's or players that shoot at me, i swap to chitin.

I see nobody has mentioned the secondary protections of chitin, namely acid. Some creatures spit acid (bagersets, butterfly defenders, etc). In case you dont know Chitin protects from kinetic (melee), energy (laser fire), blast (splash damage) acid (acid) and one other I cant think of at the moment. In my opinion it has become the ultimate solution for my scout/marksman/medic. Remember dont buy until you look first. Find a good armorsmith in your area and stick with him/her.

Don't give up on armor people. If you're seeing horrible stat penalties on something, it means it's not made very well, or with poor materials.

My Chitin armor cost me 30K and the only piece that hurts me to any extent is the helmet, which costs me 181 mind. The hands are also a bit hard on the mind pool, but as I'm a scout with minimal healing needs, the mind pool is irrelevant.

But here's my secret: If I need those mind pool points back for something, take the armor off via a set of hotkeys. When you're done, put it back on again.
