Thread: Why go the CH route?

I think the reasons for going this route boil down to two basic philosophies.

1) The CH likes the idea of pets and/or training animals along the lines of Beastmaster/rangers/etc.

2) It was the uberleetdude flavor-of-the-week there for a while...

Pick yours.

Is CH still the latest fad after the (much needed, and I'm a CH) balancing and the introduction of non-Ch pets? I don't really follow the trends. HeH

I thought the latest thing was to powerskill as quickly as possible through Scout on your way to becoming a BH or Commando, not for the sake of Scouting?

The trend is now to have CH 1:1:0:0 and just buy a fully trained Grand Wrix or GSP. If you have the money for pet stims then all you need to do is send in the pet then pick off everything around it.

Wolf,

My "love" for the CH profession is well documented here.

I put them right above the pedophiles and right below the French on my list of favorite things.

And no, I've got no CH skills.

I do have two pets - a Kaadu named "Sanders" and a Gnort named "Lunch". I keep them for comic relief.

Hrmmm....you have just brought a query to my mind.

Why is it that you have so little love for the CH profession when the scout profession leads directly into it? Is it a question of gameplay style, or something deeper rooted? And if it is answered somewhere else, please direct me there. I actually want to figure this one out, and am not trying to cause trouble.

Oh, and another reason to go that direction, if you into the RP aspects a lot: Watching a lady squeak when you give her a gigabunny that does the worlds dumbest trick. It's priceless.

Soj,

Not sure I understand what you mean there.

Sorry for being obtuse, I knew Delta's feelings about Creature Handlers and felt it would be better if you didn't stick around to see his answer! But, our Dauntless Corespondent handled the topic more diplomaticly than I thought he would.

Soj,

I'm working on my diplomatic skills.

Making fun of them is more fun if Iam nice to them once in a while.

Why go the CH route?

For the same reason you might pick anything else....because you think it is fun and enjoyable (is that redundant?)

For me anyway, a quick way to ruin a game is to pick a character or style based on logic or other people's advice.

But that's just me and I'm insane.

I was thinking about mastering artisan with my scout, hopefully soon to be ranger, but the mental image you all have given me of roaming the wilds with my own pet gnort named Froggy is priceless. Besides, collecting the resources for crafting bores me to tears with the constant surveying and the long ass recycle time to sample... bleh. there are too many worlds to explore to waste my time doing that.

He probably meant paedophile, also spellable as pedophile. Similar to paediatrician, being a doctor specialising in care of babies, also spellable as pediatrician.

But anyway. I like being a CH for several reasons. First, I prefer to solo. Unfortunately, this game has become more and more solo unfriendly. NPCs and creatures were given more HP and more damage, instead of being loaded in greater numbers. Note that I am perfectly willing to fight a torton, CL23, but I'll actively avoid fighting mites, CL13, because the mites will swarm me.

That change then caused problems. Melee fighters are in serious trouble, because creatures are individually disproportionately tough. There's now a dichotomy between tuning combat for PvE and tuning it for PvP. That old phrase "weak as a womprat" comes back to mind. If a player is to stand a chance against a PvE opponent who is five or six times as beefed up as the player, then PvP combat will basically come down to who fires first.

Then, enter the CH. Creatures are overbeefed, therefore tamed creatures are similarly overbeefed. Thus, a CH's pets can stand up to the environment, because they've got far too many hp compared to a player. There was also the little issue of novice CHs with Rancors, and master CHs with three Rancors. That certainly put a bad name on the CH profession, and caused a lot of people to head that way.

The second reason I play a CH is comfort. I've played a MUD for many years now, and in the last four or so I've focused pretty exclusively on a pet class. So I'm rather familiar with the methods of play, and knowing when to use a pet and when not to.

The third reason was those movies they released showing the pets doing tricks.

So now I'm a Master Scout, Ranger 1/0/2/0 with plenty of excess xp, Pistoleer 0/0/0/0 with capped xp, and Creature Handler 2/2/1/3. The biggest benefit I got out of CH was hitting Management 3. I now have two screaming kai toks doing my bidding; it's more effective than the one sludge panther.

Boycotting the GCW. I don't force you to PvE, don't force me to PvP!

I am not going to answer for Delta but I got turned off from CH by, A. it looks like Pokemon land in Theed, B. Here I am working my pistol and rifle skills and along comes a Ch with multiple pets and bamm all wildlife is gone. Is it right I feel this way? Beats me but I know it has turned me off, I also like combat so maybe thats another reason.

The most important, though, is "Is this what you really want to do?" If the answer is yes, everything else is just rhetoric.

DING DING DING. This is the correct answer folks. If it's fun, do it.
