It depends on what you want. I got this game and wanted to be a 'leet dood' bh and it took me like 5-6 months to master because I didn't grind it and I got disspirited along the way. I obviously know now that I can't be a leet dood bh but I havent dropped it since. I want to drop it, I want to try out another uber proffression, but its not in me to drop something I've worked so hard for (plus I hate grinding).

Do what I did. Like you there is no way in heck I'm giving up my MBH. But, I wanted another type of combat experience in the game so I started another character on another server. I worked out a credit transfer (1.5:1) with someone else looking for credits on my main server and I started down the path of:

Master Brawler
Master Swordsman
TKA 4404
Fencer 4000

Medic 3140

Its actually fun doing the "newbie" grind again. It goes a lot faster the second time around because you're more focused and you know how to level faster. Basically, this character will be my Flavor of the Month character. This way I can try different things without ever having to give up my MBH.

Marksman will also allow you elite marksman professions like Pistoleer and Rifleman. Once you master it, overcharge shot 2 is pretty good. Marksman is good for using different types of weapons depending upon the range and possibly armor resistance of the enemy. A master marksman can easily shift from rifles to pistols if their enemy gets too close. Also, as you said, it is a preresquisite for BH and Commando.

I haven't decided what route to take but I'm planning on mastering marksman (just have carbines tree left) to give me the BH option. I have question about master marksman though. Is it essentially worthless other than as a prerequisite for BH and Commando?

Master Marksmen is can be useful for professions like Master Riflemen. At Master Marksmen you get +5 Rifle Speed. Which can take you from +90 Rifle speed at Master Riflemen to +95 Rifle speed. Now just find some +5 Rifle Speed SEA and you are a force to be reconed with.

Overcharge Shot 2, eh? How much more effective is this special versus Overcharge Shot 1? I'm not a big fan of carbines, but maybe it will be worth mastering Marksman.

I am going for Ranger for one of my characters. I like the cool abilities they have (tracking and such), plus the continued bonuses from Scout. Being able to master it will mean sacrificing skills in other professions, unfortunately. I definitely want to try it out!

As a bounty hunter myself, I reccomend it if you like doing PvE and solo missions. If you are looking to make money, or be a "useful" player to the community, try Ranger. You can harvest a bunch of meat, and your tracking skills will come in handy for those elusive Krayt dragon hunts.

Im currently doing Ranger. Its great fun, I enjoy just taking one mission as far from a city as possible, and when thats done I can just hit /areatrack and find some other critters to kill

My final template is going to be Master Ranger, Master Rifleman and CH 0300. That gives me some pretty hefty PvE damage dealing ability, all the camo/burstrun/camping/trapping and tracking bonuses of Ranger, as well as the ability to store several pets, and call up to level 19. A CL 19 Bio Engineered pet can be a VERY nice tank in PvE combat, and at CL 19 you can control a Wasteland Cu Pa, which I think is one of the classiest mounts in the game(and also moderatly rare).

I started a new char (a short Rodian) on a different server and am doing Carbineer and Ranger, but I am wondering how well Squad Leader goes with the combination. Perhaps the tracking helps the group find targets then boost the group's combat and mobile abilities at the same time. Has anyone done Ranger/Squad Leader?

In random order:

  • Community Veteran is 6 months (announcement forum, how to get the most out of these forums). General consensus is 100 posts (two and a half months togo for me)

  • Profitability of harvesting is good to extremely good depending on the effort you put in to it, the server you're on and the knowledge you posses.

  • Yes, there is a Master Ranger/Squadleader. Most of us think he should be deported to the nearest looney bin in a straightjacket. Post your questions on the ranger forum and you'll get your answers

  • Master Ranger is currently more a mentality then a usefull skill set. It's a real nice community you'll feel proud to be a part of though.

  • Good call Rohzlok, JB is flameproof anyway You have your wannabees, we have our 3 useless trees

  • Soloing a Krayt is possible as Ranger/Rifleman, takes 2 hours of concealshotting, a little luck to not get a bleed and a lot of luck to not get it stolen by another group.

  • As Master Rangers you can keep one weapon tree and the Ranged tree of marksman in combination with an elite combat prof (rifle/pistol/carbine). Pistol is good defense/low dmg. Carbines is applying state effects, reasonable dmg, high HAM cost, Rifle just feels made for a Ranger. (personal opinion, have been a master carbineer, am currently master rifleman. Pistoleer is hearsay)
