Thread: Revamp of Traps and trapping

that is good for killing, but it would be nice to place something to harvest for us automatically. A special skill you get with scout and it only gets better with Ranger
Sorry to say, but that's just plain ridicilous.
If you want to autoharvest, get a droid....

QFE, though I might have worded it differently.
yeah. everyone has their little issues that get to them. JB has his macros, I have my auto-harvesting.

There are only a couple of reasons anyone ever learns the trapping line:
1) They want to be Ranger so they need master scout.
ok so there is only one reason.

I disagree, if you take the time to learn how to use them traps are a very effective tool during combat.

I would make it so any profession could use the traps in the scout trapping line but everyone only starts out with one trap lot. If you want more lots, you need to become a scout
And take our bread and butter (hunting organics) away from us? I dont think so.

That would make trapping more meaningful and make ranger a more interesting profession.
I don't think it would make it more interesting at all, in fact it would make it more boring
Let me know what you all think
Sorry, I don't like your idea.

People would set up as many traps as they could, and only ask for our help if they needed massive stacks of specific items. There are too many negative flaws in this system to consider it a possibility. We need a different idea for trap revamps. I still think that a "Trap Launcher" would be our best bet, as a craftable weapon enhancement attached to our melee/ranged weapon that functions as the trap itself but effects the target when hit. Of course, this is flawed as well, because of the logics of certain trap / weapon combinations, how many uses the powerup would have, and if it would effect the creature every time you attacked them or if it would be on a timer.
I can see you didn't read it all, in the post it says you can only place one trap if you don't have at least novice scout, as you go up the scout and ranger tree then you can place more traps.
This is your bread and butter, wouldn't you want to get some resources and hunt for resourses? I'm thinking any way a ranger was able to get more resources would always be a better thing.
Have I ever seen a bear skin it self, no but I have seen people set traps and come back for the animal in the trap, kill it easily, then clean it, skin it, eat it.
I have never seen anyone in my life double click an animal in RL and get either a choice of meat, hide or bones.

but then again, the net didn't start harvesting Chewie did it?

It was just an idea. The idea actually came to me while I was watching Return of the Jedi. If you remember, the ewoks set some traps, Chewi triggered the trap, and they were caught up in it. This was my idea of how you could have something like that in the game, and Ranger/Scout makes the most sense.
Jub Jub!
I was an Ewok!
I'm not kidding! It rocked!

I always thought that, at least from a roleplaying point of view, this was very sensible. I would REALLY like to see man traps for PVP at the master level, and plus, as we are HUNTERS according to the devs, this amkes sense. Who ever saw a trap you threw? Anyways, I like the idea. It is fun and would enrich an otherwise boring line.

No it didn't harvest chewi. Ok if you want the trap to mimic RL exactly. I can place as many as I want for a specific creature. I have to come back every now and then to see if there is anything in my trap. If there is, I stand back and shoot it in the head. No risk to my self. After I shoot it, I need to gut it (not double click) but actually take out a survival knife and cut in the right places making sure you don't puncture the stomach. etc.
Not sure if you have noticed, this is a game not RL. Don't just say this won't work, come up with alternatives, come up with something that you think would be viable for game play.
I will give you that in RL traps don't skin their victims at least not on Earth, who knows how it happens in a galaxy far far away.
