I have found a work around to this. While helping a new scout grind last night, it worked quite well for us to be grouped while killing, but then pausing every few kills for him to ungroup and harvest. He got xp when he would ungroup and harvest the kills. It was a bit more of a hassle, but at least he was able to get the appropriate xp.
