Thread: Weird Bug: No Scout XP while Grouped? (will need confirmation)
In Beta Keldarin or Blixtev, I can't remember who, told us that Scout xp was based off of our individual combat level the same way as weapons xp. This "base" amount of xp changes depending on whether the creature was higher or lower than your level. If it is higher you get a positive modifier, if it is lower you get a negative modifier.
When you are in a group your base amount of xp is still determined by your individual combat level. So even if you are in a CL 16 group you will still get a CL 2 amount of xp. HOWEVER, the modifier is determined by the group CL. So basically you are getting a CL 2 amount of scout xp with a negative modifier of 13-14 levels, which negatively modifies the xp down to 1 or 0. If you had killed level 16 creatures I believe you would have received the same amount of xp you normally get from killing level 2s solo.
This was put in place, I believe, so that you could not power level like you can do in JTL. ie: you hit the creature once and your higher level group member one-shots it, allowing you to speed harvest your way through a mob.
This is all guestimating on my part of course and contains some glaring contradictions. For instance, why is scout xp reduced to 0 but weapons and trapping xp isn't?
I'll try to seperate this issue out in my bug list so it becomes more clear-cut. And let me know any flaws you see in my logic!
So, the on the fighting Yello con side players can harvest to acheive their max(ish) XP gain. While fighting on the Grey Con side players recieve no XP.
I understand if that's how its supposed to be working but what throws me for a loop is that when you're solo and kill a grey con creature you can still recieve a decent XP award.
At least at low levels it seems that the scout XP gain is based off of creature CL. You can see my post about Trapping for an early illustration based on playing around with low CLs.
What threw me is that while Solo I was getting XP from Grey cons but in a group I was getting no message and no award but after logging out and back in I was getting an un-attributed (un-mentioned)award.
Had the same thing happen to me yesterday.. I've been Ranger/scout before and was staring a new char to get Creature Handler..
So i go outside mos eisley with my new lvl 1 char and start killing lvl 1-2 creatures and getting about 60-70 scout xp per one..
I'm loving it. reminded me of the old days etc. well half an hour into it i start to get bored... normal male thing. so i group with this uber lvl 16 guy that said he would help me.. but i gain no xp... i was gutted.
So tonight i'm going hunting lvl 80 creatures with my guild and i'll let you know what the xp is like if i get any!
Are you sure your XP gain was this low? Wednesday I was getting 130ish XP for killing CL1 creatures.
Now, unless wanderhome was getting 2x XP longer than everyone else I would have expected your CP gain to be higher.
I have had the same problem. I am a lvl 70 Ranger and took my lvl 16scout friendout hunting. He did not receive any scouting xp for harving creatures that were lvl59 and below. I, however, was still getting 3-4k inscouting xp each. On the higher lvl (non gray CL) creatures he would still get decent xp (750-1k each). Basically anything that was giving me combat xp, he could harv for scout xp. I also have not noticed any xp loss from lower CL. Xp gain is lower due to the # of hides harvested but that is expected. This does not follow the lines of the CU as far as combat xp is awarded. This implies that this problem is infact not a bug but was actually designed into the game.
I can see both pros and cons to this feature/bug:
Pros: It keeps low lvl characters from grouping with some high level friends, staying in the back and then harvesting all the dead animals and getting easy scout xp from moderate level creatures.
Cons:It isn't true to role playing. In real life ifyou want to take an apprentice hunting, you will not go after the big game but something a little smaller and easy to kill; and the apprentice should still be able to get some xp out of the whole experience.
For now I would recommend that if you group with higher lvl people and want to hunt for xp, find creatures with their level not yours.
i went hunting last night in a group of 7 lvl 80 peeps and me at lvl 5.
We hunted lvl 82 creatures.
I was getting 130xp for every creature i havested.
i get 70-80 soloing lvl 2 creatures outside Mos Eisley..
looks like scout has no easy way to level it!

What would happen if you grouped with a bunch of lvl 5's and used pass through attacks on CL5-7 critters?
If, as a group, you were able to target stuff at/near your 'natural' CL would you be getting enough to level?
If, as a group, you were able to go after stuff 3 or 4 levels about your natural level would you get a 'boost' to XP?
I haven't had a chance to test recently. But things with Scout XP (including trapping XP) definitely seem to be in a bit of a bad place. They're hard to come by early, or too easy to get later.

Harvest xp was 130 per creature. same as lvl 80 ones. so there must be a cap depending on lvl.
Scout XP, like Weapons and Combat XP, is capped per player by CL. What this means is that a CL 15 player will recieve the same amount for killing a CL 30 as they would for killing a CL 80. The purpose of this was to prevent power grinding when grouped. While the CL 15 player might be capped at around 150 Scout XP, a CL 80 player might be getting 1kXP even if they are only Novice Scout. What this does, unfortunately, is make Scout significantly easier to power level AFTER you've gained significant CL.
I then found the quickest way for me by far.
I went outside Mos Eisley on my own (now lvl 9) and started kill lvl 1 tame rills.
I set up a macro with the basic command /harvest.
I can kill one of these in one to two shots (about 2-3secs). hit the harvest button while still targeted and then start killing another.
This gave me 70xp per harvest and i was able to harvest about 25 per minute giving me 1,750xp per minute. Took me about 15mins to finish a tier 4 box.
See my power leveling note.
by far the quickest way i have found.

Group 1 :-
CL62
CL2
Target - CL55(Green con) - no XP
Group 2 :-
CL5
CL2
Target - CL1-2(Green con) - no XP
Group 3 :-
CL80
CL2 or CL5
Target - CL80 - XP
In all case a decent enough amount of combat and weapons XP was given out to all combattants.
