Thread: Well, I gave up: I'm grinding survival XP
I understand completely.
I am tempted to /yell in town that i am willing to pay for people to come. If I dont get very far today, I will try it tomorrow.

I generally camp after each mission pair, while I make more traps, etc. And let my own wounds heal. I'm trading 20 minutes for the creds and trip back to town that I can avoid by not having to see the doc. So, do I go ata bit slower pace, sure. But my Survival stays in line with the rest of my scout skills that way.
Don't see camping as an issue, personally. Guess I'm the odd one.

I've actually gotten everything except for the last hunting and camping. But I'm not too worried about it as I am going for BH and need a gazillion combat points to get novice bh. So I camp and make traps and what not and heal when I need too.
I figure by the time I get enough combat exp I should be long done with camping. At least I hope so. Shouting for people to sit in my camp or just doing it to doesn't really apeal to me at all.
Need apprentice points still too. Which is starting to look kind of bleh to me. As everyone seems to be higher in skill than my toon already and I don't want to have to sit in front of a combat hall screaming how I'll train such and such skill.
Anyways what weapon are you guys using? I'n sure whatever it is will need a ton of exp points in it to get you past the lowest expert tier.
>>> So, do I go ata bit slower pace, sure.
That's the way I've been working it, as well. But my survival skills were just so slow in coming. I'm not trying to powerlevel or anything, but even with camping at each opportunity, it seemed to be falling behind.
I'm guessing that anyone who's already achieved Master Scout or better could only have done so in this manner. I mean, some guys have been ranger for three weeks already. How the heck do you achieve that in one or two weeks of gaming?
Camping is a pain. The way I have done it is to switch of afk and when I cannot play as I am doing other stuff set up the best camp I can make and if at home check after 30minutes set up another one. Its 800exp and it is slow.
I also take camp when I have exhausted my HAM. Take a break have a cup of tea and then disband camp.
I do not know of any way of speading it up. I thought fishing might give you survival exp but I haven't managed to find any bait yet.
It would be nice if forage did.
Look for players that are AFK, Kneeling (probabling sample grinding), and no camp (not a scout). Step up camp next to them and WHAMO!! vistorin camp means2x the XP. Experiment with times to find MAX, unless someone knows what that is for each camp.
If you have survey skills a bonus someoe else found u a good spot for ?. Double the grind ![]()
I ended up grinding my camping away. I tried to incorporate camping into my regular gameplay, and actually managed to get the first two skill blocks that way. But it was just too difficult for me to gain experience without choosing to grind. For one thing, it's really hard to camp in groups when everyone is eager to get the hunt on. The last thing they want to do is stop for 10 or 15 minutes so you can gain experience.
Whenever I soloed and got hurt, I'd try to set up a camp whenever I healed, but kept running into the annoying "This is a no build zone" message. By the time I found an area that I could setup camp in, I was nearly healed up, or completely healed up. I could make due if I had just gotten killed. Being a novice medic, I could spend 30or so minutes healing myself up. And I also tried to use the time to grind medical supplies, and traps.
In the end, I just found a good place to camp, built dozens of camps, and went into AFK for a few hours at a time. I spent about 3 or 4 days setting up new camps every 15-30 minutes, and coming back to the computer whenever it was time to set up the next one. On the plus side, I managed to get several DVDs watched, and read quite a bit during that time period. In fact, I sort of miss the grinding, because I hadn't spent that much time reading in awhile. ![]()
I just can't seem to incorporate camping into my ordinary routine enough to make steady advancement. And believe me, I tried. Anytime I had to pause for a few moments or rest up in the field, I'd camp. But even after three weeks of playing like this, I still hadn't achieved Survival 3.
People suggested setting up camps near the Tusken Fort for fighters to recover. I saw some poor soul try this last night at our big Tusken raid. And to be honest, because he had to set up camp a fair ditance from the Tusken cave, no one really bothered to run back to him to heal. Why would they? Just sit for 3 minutes and you're all set. As a courtesy, me and a buddy made a point of stopping in his camp to help him out.
So I caved in. I just spent all day setting up and breaking down camps every 30 minutes as I putter around the house this weekend. And I guess I'm gonna keep doing it until I make Master Scout. Honestly, I don't know how anyone managed to achieve MS already without doing this.
Persoanlly, I think the bonus for providing multiple visitors with camp benefits should be much larger. If you can manage to get 10 people to sit still for 15 minutes in your camp, you should get 2000 camping XP. My personal observation in the field is that after 3 minutes, everyone has recovered their HAM bars and wants to move on. Maybe camping needs to provide more benefits and advance faster than it currently does.
I am the same here, I have got everything on my Scout skill tree other than Survival IV. I haven't power gamed but just play through and tried to setup camp after every pair of destory missions or when ever I got beaten up enough to stop fighting. But this last set is a long slog, I like the idea of paying people to come and sit in your camp.
I think if we could camp in the "no build zone" it would be a lot quicker to do, as I find I tend to see far more people that close in. But I will have the skill before the patch comes in.
I hear ya, and I'm presently feeling your pain as well. To make matters worse, even when you try to hook up with a group on missions or hunting, you THINK you'll get some decent camping XP, until you get out there and it becomes a race between three people in the group as to who's going to be the one putting the camp up first. Wasted time. And it drags your WIlderness Survival XP out something fierce!
Oh well, gonna have to probably break down and grind camping for a bit. I'm about 7000 away from Survival IV now, and that's the only thing keeping me from Master Scout, so I need to do SOMETHING soon or risk my sanity (not that my addiction to this game isn't already evidence for a solid case of court-appointed therapy!)

Jmatt,
The proud have fallen: I have started to do the same thing. I'm 8k away from the Field Base Kit in the Ranger forums. I hate to say it, but I'm grinding out the XP to get there.
Here are the fixes that are currently being discussed with the devs. There is no timeline now on their implementation, but they are being worked on:
1.) Fishing granting survival XP
2.) Trap and Camp making granting survival XP
3.) Increasing the rate that larger camps generate XP
I am still pressing for /forage to give XP, but the Devs are trying to figure out a means of making this non-exploitable.
I will let you all know that status of this information as it changes.
