Hello all, I am a completely new SWG player and i decided to go into the scout profession as it seemed like the one that fit me best, and is fun to play as well. At present i am 2-2-2-2 and am looking for some helpful hints from more experienced players. Ill try to lay out my questions in easy to read format. However remember Im a newb and this is my absolute first time posting in the forums, so please dont hesitate to inform me if i break some unwritten rule, or taboo. :/

Exploration-Exploration seemed boring to me at first, but upon lvling it to Mask Scent, im in awe of how useful and exciting it can be. Nothing like sneaking behind and just watching high lvl huge beasties. However I've noticed some small problems/perhaps bugs in the system here. I'll also be asking a few questions about some resources i just recently was able to harvest

1:A problem i've frequently noticed when moving about dangerous areas with mask scent is that the absolute second im discovered by even one non-aggressive critter, every other creature on the planet can now detect me. For example im trotting through Endor(Best place to get milk that i've seen) with mask scent, and suddenly lo and behold im spotted by one of the yellow non-aggressive cows(as i call them) Immediately every other creature there is spooked, and wont allow me to milk them. Also red beasts that i normally could walk past with scent on, rush me en masse, in the hopes of getting a furry chew toy. :/ I can usually survive by running like heck away from them, trying desperately to reach some water, but more often then not Im insta-incapped. I usually am able to wait until my mask scent comes up again and stroll right past the predators, but still its annoying to be attacked by every critter there just because one spotted me. Is this SUPPOSED to happen, or is it merely a bug the Devs haven't fixed yet?

2: The resource which i have just recently been able to grab, is as showcased in my earlier posts, Milk. Iam merely curious as to ifit worth anything to any specific group as i sure as heck cant find any use for it. The signals i've gotten on it are rather mixed, asone person i know said that hedidn't bother pickingit up, while another said that it was very useful to a specificProfession, but sadly i lagged out before he could inform me of said profession. Id just like to know if its really worth the time and effort to grab from the "cows" on Endor, or if i should merely stay there for the scout xp i get for sneaking past thehigh lvl critters?

Trapping: Truthfully I've never really liked trapping, boo me as you may. It always seemed like a waste as that wasa move that further alerted the critters/NPC's to your position so they could claw/shoot/bash/bite you when they discovered where you were. As Im going up the markman tree as my other Profession i dont lack for combat ability. Trapping seemed like something for those Scout purists who took no other profession. However hope springs eternal and im hoping that the traps become better at higher lvls, so ive decided to go through, with a few questions to the masters.

1:First off, what trap is best, i.e. can be used over and over on a single target, with good xp for such action.

2:Second, whats the best creature to "trap" that wont instantly incap/kill me. I've heard some scouts talking about trapping Rancors but that seemed more suicidal then well pretty much anything i could think of, If im wrong in my assumption please tell me.

Hunting:Ah hunting how i love thee, let me count the ways....This is one of my favorite skills to climb, Creature to-hit bonus, and Creature harvesting bonus, are incredibly good, and they keep me happy, taking out critters and using more of their butchered corpse. It keeps me in the crafting, but not really in the money....

1:The one problemI have with hunting, is that pretty much every other newbie player out there has it! I've really known people who have just gotten that one skill so they could sell the skins and bones. More power to them i guess but it really hurts serious scouts, as i'd like to become. These people as they just do it for the heck of it, sell their skins for absurdly low prices which completely undercuts me, as i really need the money. Are there any ways to bypass this, like finding more specialized buyers, or should i mass harvest and try to sell even lower? Neither sounds all that easy, or lucrative.

Wild Survival:This is a skill that i really enjoy, but sadly i dont go up the ladder on this really quickly. I for onerarely group, as groups are often pick-up groups, and sadly more often then not, as such are filled with morons.I just really enjoy setting up my campif im wounded orfor the heck of it, in the middle of nowhere, with a warm fire at my feet andmy pet bantha warming my side. As such i rarelyif ever get any visitors, so i only get the xp from me myself, andI. I have a few questions about how that xp works.

1:How long does it take for me to reach the Max Cap of xpwhile camping, does it depend merely on how long i spend in there, or are there many other factors involved?

2: Secondly, whats theMAX xp cap for my multi-camp which i recently got, the highest i'veyet gotten is about 600xp. Is that the cap or close to it?

3. I'veheard and read that fishing is a good way to get Wild xp, but though i have a fishing pole, i have no idea where to get the bait. Is that something i can get, or do i have to buy on bazaars/vendors?

________________________________________________________________________________

Pshew, I think thats enough questions for now as my fingers are about to fall off. But really, im glad to be here,Being a scout has seemed so far like such an awesome profession, and in closing i hope to see more of you on the forumsand on the servers(Chilastra guy myself). So thanks for even looking at my post, and thanksin advance even more, for any questions that are answered here. See y'all later!

Alright from the top

1) No this is normal once one animal is alerted they all will be. And it works this way with what you milk as well. When you get into Explore 4 and if you go master scout you will find mask scent will work better. You might want to talk to a tailor about getting some wookie clothing with mask scent bonuses. Oh yeah Jawa Beer is your friend while milking. Talk to an artisan and get some made up. it needs good OQ wooly hide to make so hunt some and give it to an artisan and they will make the jawa beer for you. This adds to mask scent for 15 minutes or so.

2) Milk is needed by chefs and bio-engineers. BE's need it for creature taming clothing. Chefs need it for lots of things. BE's and Chefs will be looking for high OQ milk with good flavor and potential energy. But milk is also needed as a component for some items in chef were numbers mean nothing and its all about bulk (bantha butter). So they will ask you to just collect as much as is possible numbers on it be damned. This is where its nice for places like Endor where you can collect a bunch of it. Otherwise keep an eye on the milk numbers the better the milk the higher the payout. Since you have no problems with collecting it (you have more patience then most) make friends with a chef and tell them you have milk and you will have a friend forever.

Trapping

1) Depends on the situation, depends on the scout/ranger. Myself im rather in love with glow-wires because they drop a targets melee/ranged defenses and this is a huge bonus when your fighting something brawler or ranger. Our correspondent JBMat is a fan of P-darts which slow the target down. Just try them out and see which ones you like best. But trust me on the glow-wire hit a creature with it and without it and you will see a difference

2) if your leveling trapping up to 2 i did lesser plains bols above 2 it was all quenkers and it went quickly.

Hunting

- know your market. Go on your servers trade forums and do two things. Page through for "Buying Lok Wooly hide" or anything like that. Or even make a post "Scout for hire - what organics do you need" And you will find chefs, docs, armorsmiths replying with what they want hunted and what they will likely pay for it. This is a case of a scout as a merchant selling services. Once you do a couple contracts you will get on a mailing list probaly and wont have to do it as much.

Camping

1) max is reached in 22 minutes camp disbands in 55 automatically. The quickest way to level is to craft camps while sitting in your camp. Option 2 is to have a pet or droid go into and out of camp radius on patrol and up your visitor count to max it out easier. Option 3 is to put up a camp near the bridge in theed and people will add to your visitor camp and you'll meet new people. Craft camps while your sitting there and not having a convestaion.

3) FIshing is good survival xp. Find a planet that has good fish meat and find a bio-engineer to sell it to. Use /forage to get bait for your pole. It will take several tries. After you get one fish you will get chum bait from it to continue fishing. Read Volstads power fishing guide for all things fishing it will make your life easier.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the club.

Fodder did a great job, so I am only gonna add some minor advice:

Trapping - Wire mesh will stack. There is a POI on Talus... sludge panthers live there. Go in maskscented. There is a balcony there, as you come from Naschal it's to the right rear. Loop around town, get on the balcony. You can stand here and throw traps until your arms fall off. Altho you will learn later that traps are super vital to hunting some creatures, use whatever now.

To expand. P darts will become your friend. Stick one and the creature isslowed. Stick a bone spur and it's blind. Nothing better than a slow creature with vision problems.

But if you always trap what you are hunting, you will max trapping before you know it. I got into the habit of trapping and having 4 boxes of traps on my tool bar most of the time. Tossing one or two per creature adds up quick.

Hunting - sounds like you will be going for Ranger.Natural progression. The bonuses at Master Scout and then at Master Rangersort of make up for the "harvestors" with only harvesting. Don't worry about making money, it's hard not to make money in this profession. My trick is to always get missions for what I am hunting, then hunt random stuff. Ride out and walk back... your ride out created spawn in your wake. The walk back allows you to capitalize on that.

Best part, wander and have fun. Master a combat profession while hunting and work on tactics that work for you.

Welcome!

the only other advice i can give you is that wookiee fur has a tendancy to spook a lot of critters.

I'd recommend shaving it all off. not only will you feel cooler, but the creatures 'might' like you more.

Well, welcome to the Scouting Profession!

Hey, best I can say is that you are probably better off on a starting planet. Talus is good- not a lot of players, and with the recent static spawn increase it is getting easier to find creatures, especially around Dearic. I wouldn;t reccomend hunting on Endor, unless you have at least got Novice for an elite combat profession. Also, get a trapping droid- it might take a while to find, but a good DE can usually make one for you with good trapping mods, most liely above yours. You can spend your time fighting, let the droid trap, and get the same experience. Also, you could get a hravest module isntalled, but it may be a bit expensive for two modules.

It takes to long to say "Read the FAQs". Easiest to do a long drawn out explanation.

Hoo boy, i go away for awhile(accursed piece of junk router!)and this thread goes to pot... Bald Wookie's??!! How bored have you guys been of late? Anyway getting back to the main point of the post, mainly help for me, I have a few more questions as due to some Snow days() I have managed to work up both the Hunting and Exploration line and am now a Novice CH. This seems like an incredibly fun line and I've so far enojoyed every moment of it.

However the thoughts of a Ranger draw me as well, im really close to leveling both trapping and camping, respectively and as im not sure how the career "points" work, i have a question. Will I be able to actually afford Ranger? Im wanting to be a CH/Ranger with the ability to hunt my prey and tame it too, is that doable? Also the professions i have right now are marksman(working toward the rifleman tree)scout, and CH. Will i have enough points to go elite in all my 3 professions, CH, Ranger, and Rifleman, or will i have to lose some points on the side?

Also if i dont have to lose any said points, has anyone here ever been both a CH/Ranger and has it worked out for you? Im really curious about that and wouldwelcome any input whatsoever.

P.S. Again, what on earth brought up the Bald wookie comments?!
