Thread: Analysis of Foraging & List of Items
Our Problem:
I don't know about you, but I've always been a fan of foraging, in any game. And of course, the idea of foraging *rare* items as a Ranger, well, kinda made my fingers tingle. Maybe that's just me. =P
I had heard about the theories about what exactly happenedto rare item forage...and what exactly was the deal with the "inventory too full" message.
So I did a bit of experimenting. I took my Master Ranger out, and foraged for about an hour, and found myself with (I'm a bit distressed to say) 15 unique items. Perhaps luck had it in for me, and I missed a few that are out there. I certainly hope so!
I averaged the "inventory too full" message in about one out of every ten tries. Sometimes more frequent, sometimes less. I averaged getting three items in one forage in one out of every twenty tries. I noticed that sometimes, when I did a successful three item forage, I would get the "inventory too full" message but still have two new items in my inventory...obviously, the third was thrown out. So I assume, at this point, that the "inventory too full" message is the rare item, right?
I go over to the Scout boards, and read up on some of their foraging issues. According to DeltaXi65's scouting guide, and their current issues regarding foraging, they cannot forage more than two items at once. I honestly was not Master Scout longer than an hour before I became Novice Ranger, but since then, I have foraged three items at once, without the "inventory too full" message, many times. So I don't know why exactly they're having this problem.
Now, for a bit of testing, I make a Novice Scout on a new server, and get to Survival I. I go out and start foraging. Eventually, I ended up with the exact same 15 unique items that I got before, on my Master Ranger. *However,* in that process, I was astonished to get the "inventory too full" message just as often as I did with my Master Ranger.
Now, then, if "inventory too full" is associated with rare items, but rare items cannot be foraged until Frontiering I, then how can a Scout with Survival I get that message?
My Conclusion:
The "inventory too full" message is a completely different bug, not associated with rare items. It's a common item, like Ko-Do Fruit or Maroj Melon, but for some reason, whenever that item is foraged, that message is given, instead. That would explain the "inventory too full" that the Novice Scout gets and when a Ranger/Master Scout successfully forages three items, but only gets two and that message. My guess is that Master Scout can still forage three items successfully without that message, they just haven't foraged around enough.
So what happened to rare item forage?
Rare item forage could be that...really, really rare. So rare, that not even a Master Ranger finds one after an hour of foraging.
Or, there just aren't any rare items to be foraged right now, despite what we have been told.
Or, most likely, there is a bug right now that does not give the Ranger with Frontiering I access to the rare item forage list. When I forage with my Master Ranger, and it checks to see if I can forage a rare item, for some reason I don't toggle correctly with it, and it assumes that I'm just like the Master Scout...able to forage three items at once, but not able to forage rare items.
Any more information or testing on this would be greatly appreciated.
So, what are these 15 unique items? Glad you asked! I have them all compiled in a nice list for you.

Fourth time I read it, I see something I could've clarified more on!
When I mean that the "inventory full" message is given to a common item, Imean an item that would be commonly foraged, but that we never *see* it, because everytime we forage that item, we get that message.
For example, we'll call it X-Fruit. When the Novice Scout forages X-Fruit, he gets that message. When the Master Ranger does a three item forage, let's say...X-Fruit, Esost'Ew Zann, and Sijjo Sewi, the latter two show up in his inventory, but the X-Fruit does not, and the "inventory full" message is given.
But it's not a *rare* item, just one that should be commonly foraged.
The 16th item we never see...

This was originally posted on the Ranger boards, but I felt some of it was relevent to Scouts, so I edited it up a bit and I'm posting it here, for your persual. ![]()

My Conclusion:
The "inventory too full" message is a completely different bug, not associated with rare items. It's apreviously unknownitem, one that is commonly foraged, but for some reason, whenever it is, that message is given instead of the item being placed in the inventory.
For example, we'll call it X-Fruit. When the Novice Scout forages X-Fruit, he gets that message. My guess is that Master Scout can still forage three items successfully without that message, you just haven't foraged around enough. If I got three item forage once every twenty tries with a Master Ranger, then you've got a bit of foraging to do. I know I have been able to throughout my Rangering career, so I'm not quite sure what to tell you.
So what happened to rare item forage?

Sun,
Thanks for posting this.
I hadn't read it before. I'm surprised to read that he was able to forage more than 3 things at a time, as I've never been able to do that.
I'll have to forward that tidbit of info on to the Devs.

A very useful guide, thank you for posting this. And if I happen across any foraged rare items, I'll make sure that I add it here. Thanks again
Tevoo
Er, no, *gibbers*
I can't forage more than 3 at a time, but I can forage more than 2 and actually get all 3 items in my inventory.
Sorry if that came across wrong!

Hmm interesting. Good info.
I have been a Ranger for about 2 days after making Master Scout. I have NEVER foraged more then one item at a time. I have fronteiring 2 right now and still only get one item. I get the "inventory full" message about 1 of 5 times. I have not gotten anything I didn't get as a scout either.
I have to go along with squid, and I think there may be another bug involved that only affects some people. I've been a ranger for about 3 weeks now, almost to master now, I'm at 3-4-3-4. I've foraged probably 300 times or so since becoming a ranger, always with my inventory open to see what I get, and I've never ever gotten more than one item at a time. I also have never gotten the "inventory full" message. So good and bad to this.
One question, why do you call those 15 items "unique"? I've gotten the stuff you've listed there many times.
How odd.
Perhaps there are other variables at work, that we don't know about.
For example, I normally got 3 items on a first forage at a new location (after moving after the "There is nothing here to forage" message. I'm guessing apprx. 20 square metres, we have an new "area." I need to test that when my server is more stable, heh.
Each area, I normally got 5-7 items out of that. So maybe, after the first three forages, you really don't have a chance to do a three-item forage, because there's not that many items to forage left in the area.
Also, perhaps planet may factor into it. I did my foraging on Tatooine and Endor. Tatooine is pretty fruitful, surprisingly.
But I got more three-items on Endor, by memory. I don't have exact numbers, though.
I hadn't quite thought of it in that light, so I will fool around with it more, see what I can do. I will actually log each forage this time, be organised, etc. =D
I *do* find it strange that I'm one of the rare few who can do three-item forages with regularity, apparently.

Good post!
I have never seen a Maroj Melon. ![]()
I don't forage a lot, but I've foraged enough to see everything else on the list many many times.
Nice list.
I've fed a melon to my pet once or twice. Those are the magic FS slot opening melons of doom, mind you.
