Thread: Adhesive Mesh trap questions

Hi All,

Just got Trap IV and have some questions on the adhesive mesh trap that I'm hoping some Master Scout out there can help me with.

1. Will any metal work for this? I'll need to buy some off the bazaar so I want to buy the right stuff.

2. Assuming the answer to 1. is yes, are there better metals to use? Does it even make a difference?

3. How well do these work? I don't want to go out there a toss one at a Bantha only to have him yawn and stomp me to dust. I've been stomped to dust by a Bantha - not fun .

Thanks in advance for your help.

See you in game!

I've found that using steel works well in the traps that use metal (Glo-Wire & Adhesive Mesh).

As far as I can tell, the materials used don't have any impact on the performance of the trap. The only thing that may happen from the use of inferior materials is that you will get more critical failures from crafting.

In terms of how well it works, adhesive mesh is by far the best trap in the ranger/scout line, assuming you use ranged weapons. It roots the creature for as much as 20 seconds, allowing you to get free hits for that entire period.

On the other hand, they are expensive to make as you only get 2 traps per stack. Make sure to keep more than one set in your hotbar in case of multiple failures. Have fun.

Correction from above: Phecnacine Darts and Adhesive Mesh are the only two traps in the Scout tree that use inorganics. Glow Wire Trap actually just uses bone and hide (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?). I just bought whatever was cheapest, ending up with some copper that fails only occasionally and some low quality polymer that has failed a little more commonly. I did discover that higher success does make a difference with camps, so it might make a difference with traps as well. Materials will effect how high your common successes are.

Where can I find Polymer? I've searched the bazaar(Starsider) but I've been unlucky. Does it havea different name? By polymer does it mean any inorganic material? Any help will be appreciated.

Orip,

You'll need to find an artisan friend or pick up the skill yourself. Polymer's are an inorganic, that you can search for using a chemical survey tool. I've searched high and low on the bazaar, and just gave up and started sampling for them myself.

I too have run into the polymer issue and have yet to find any. Guess i will have to take up sampling for now and get myself i nice big stack before i have to drop the skills so i can go with my master plan.

One thing i am curious about though is i keep hearing that the Adhesive Mesh trap only comes in stacks of two? Is that right? As i have yet to try them out myself i can't say wether that is good or not but 2 per stack seems really really small.

There are many lubricating oils that are polymers. I find these on the bazaar commonly, so that might be what's got you confused. Polymers, at least low quality ones, aren't very rare, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Just don't get fiberplast.

Thor,

You're right - they only stack in groups of two. I guess they're the opposite compliment of Noise Makers, which stack with 8.

I've used every kind of trap except Stink Bombs, because for the life of me I can't find musk anywhere even when I've foraged.

Delta,

Thanks for that my curiousity has been sated...for now.

Oh with the stink bombs just use the meat of any creatures you have harvested.

Is was my solution. Kill 2 birds with one stone. You do have to spend points in surveying but you can always surrender them later.

1. Survey till you find a nice spot, I usually look for 75% +

2. Build a camp.

3. Sample

I do this when I'm busy tinkering around the house, studying, doing the dishes, whatever. Check back in about 15-20 min. because you are going to run out of action pts. and stop sampling after a bit. And also at this time kill the camp and make a new one. With this method I got my survey up to IV and my Wilderness up to IV in less than a week. Plus I have several 1k stacks of material for my traps. Again, VERY boring if you are watching yourself sample for hours, hehe. But works nice when you are busy doing something else.

Oh yeah, main question on post...hehe. I haven't done any experiments, but my traps do seem to hit a little better with good quality material. When I use high quality material I get some Great and Amazing success's and rarily have a miss. When I use sub-par stuff, I seem to have a few more....could just be my imagination.

also if you are a crafter with experimentation, crafting with a weapon and general device, if you craft near a crafting station, I believe that you get to experiment one of the possible experimentations is stack size. Im not sure that we can do so, but its something to look into.
