Thread: Camps: A way to make them useful!

I was humming around on my speeder thinking about how much I missed the old days of star wars, back when there were no buffs....large group hunting....and pitching CAMPS.

These days, the only time I find myself in big groups are when we are going base raiding and PVPing.

First I thought, when we rally somewhere, I'm gonna start throwing down camps to bring back some oldschool vibes. But then it hit me...I found a way to make camps useful......

Often in PVP, particularly base raiding, the leader will shout the next waypoint to move to. Sometimes not everyone will hear the coordinates, communication falls apart and not everyone get to the next location. Well, you know when you are in large groups the closest mission shows up as a yellow WP? Why not make it so when you drop a camp, it shows up as a group waypoint for everyone? That would be extremely useful and I think it will bring back some of the old vibes a lot of use crave.

An extension to this idea would be to make the higher level camps do something like mask anyone who is in the camp so that they cannot be seen on the radar, or some other benefits.

Nanuu,

That's an EXCELLENT idea. I need to find out if this is something feasible.

There are plenty of times in PvE missions with my guild where this would be useful. If we went after something that took a couple of us out. Or found somethng along the way that was outside of a mission waypoint. This would be a nice easy way to get them back.

I'm glad to hear positive feedback. Anyone other ideas with higher level camps? I will bring up thisidea to the ranger forum so we can get some feedback from them too.

heres a copy and past of an ideafrom the GCW version of my post:

Here's an idea, as a form of simulated R&R (which is what camps are for, basically--a place to rest): Any food you eat in a camp or cantina has half the filling.

Interesting idea, but that mightbe unbalancingwith how powerful some of this food and drink is. Maybe along similar lines, what about cutting down the food/drink/spice downer timers if you are in acamp.

Because then you'd have to take your attention off of the screen to first type /way and then manually fill in the coords that you are given on your group chat.

In many large group situations i always hear at least 4 people (in a 20 person group lets say) saying "HEY!!! what's the WP?!!"

so then someone has to repeat it again. In this case, with the camp being a group waypoint, the group leader just has to say, "Everyone meet up at the rendezvous!!" *waypoint appears on monitor*.

As an added bonus, everyone can report how far they are from the location.

If you're more tactically sound, use the group camp wp's as an attack coordination tool. Picture a large group of 20 people attackinga single base, split them into 4 groups of 5 or 5 groups of 4.

The section leaders will plant camps at their location indicating they're in position and giving the groupleader a more effective way of spatially organizing (in his head)the layout ofthe battlefield. Once all locations have checked in with a camp, the group leader will send out a group message requesting status. Everyone checks in and the group leader indicates they will move out in 20 seconds.

Everyone prepares to move out when.......what's this? camp 4's wp has suddenly disappeared...as if combat has initiated!!! the trap must be sprung now!! they've been found out! The group leader orders the charge and the groups push inward from 4 directions (camp 4 was under attack by a roving group of overtopposing force so they're still in the thickof fighting).

to be continued!

remember, the idea of innovation is not creating something new, it's improving a working model, and taking it a step farther.

(i used to hate asking everyone for closest WP's, and guess what we got, the group closest mission wp monitor, and i've never been happier!)

I like the R&R idea, as well as the waypoint idea, but if you are grouped, why not place the waypoint locations in the group chat as opposed to shouting it? Not sure why this is needed, but it would be a nice idea. Increasing the medic effectiveness rating, not having them disband when battle is engaged, and the 1/2 fill of the foods and drinks (maybe add a 50% reduction in recovery and woundsfrom reserecting if dragged to the camp and in spice downers). Also, does anyone know yet if BF is now healed in a camp? That would be nice too, I haven't used one in 6 months or more.

You couldn't have said it any better Hakai. When you're in a group of 20 people, it's very difficult for a lot of people to pay attention to all the chat spam, and yes the WP gets repeated A LOT. Excellent thinking regarding the combat tactics that can be incorportated with such a simple upgrade...Be sure to post this idea in the GCW and Squad Leader versions of this thread.

This really is a great idea... the only problem lies in the nature of camps. Once a scout enters battle that camp is disbanded. As a result, in order for that waypoint to remain, and that camp to be feasible, the scout CANNOT enter the battle, and must stay pretty close to the camp.

I like it, but this returns to the need to prevent these camps from disbanding when a scout is in combat. I think it would be good to also push the issue of lack of aggro prevention in these camps.

Thanks for a great idea Nanuu! I'd love to see it work out.

This is something that I've asked to be changed for the combat balance. Camps originally were disbanded in combat because they were supposed to provide safety from critters. Since that has never materialized, I can't think of a legitimate reason to have them disband when in combat. So I'm requesting they remove that requirement - an easy fix that will enchance camping significantly.

Delta... I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again.

You're awesome.

Let's hope this works and we can get the waypoint pushed through too!
