Thread: Rifleman: Most Expensive Ranged Profession

I'm convinced we may be the most expensive ranged profession (I'm referring to PvE, I haven't tried Rifleman in PvP yet). Asa formerMC/BHC, I can tell you, I had to only worry about two things: Stims, as I was 4040 Medic, Carbines, slices, powerups, and food. I created a new character and gave all of Jek's belongings to his friend (ie my new character) Arev, and I have spent a hella lot more.

I have purchased: 1 set of Ubese - 160k, 1 combat droid - 40k (pays to shop around), crate of 10 repair kits - 50k, Crate of droid batteries - 5k, 33%, 16% Mind powerups - 20k total, repair kits for rifles - 10k, tickets to Dantooine - around 20k, MD buffs - 15k, Gold and Brandy crates 50k total, AND cloning insurance (just in case) -5k. Thank goodness I got my rifles free from a PA friend, otherwise you tack of at least a good 60-70k. And I just unlocked Novice Rifleman.

So, is it all downhill from here? Will it get better? Please say yes. As much as I loved Carbines, when grinding up the Rifles discipline in Marksman, they have since held a special place in my heart. (Of course, I'm also a WWII fan, and I've loved Rifles, even when playing DoD, I choose the Garand, Enfield, or Mauser, just because they're rifles.)

Thanks guys.

It won't get better until you have 0004 or so (speed line).

You know, I played DoD and I love rifles there too, prolly no suprise I ended up as rifleman here.

Actually, I think it gets worse...LOL

Why? Mind buffs, either via dancer/musician, or food...Or both...On Ahazi, a crate of 420 arisa is 140K a crate...Brandy is 225K a crate (and this is a little cheaper than other vendors)...I eat Arisa like a fat kid eats cake, and drink brandy like a raging alcoholic with an open bar tab....Depending on your amount of play time, you could easily eat thru a crate or more a week...

Then speed attachments...If you arent lucky enough to loot one, be prepared to to shell out anywhere between 7-14 million (or more) to get speed capped

Then, the T21....The damage it does (especially when speed capped) is absolutely addicting....

And then there are Jawa Cannons...Then Berzerkers...DXR6b's....

I buy T21's and Jawas by the crate, keep the best ones, and either destroy the ones I dont want or try and give them away...

The guns decay relatively quickly when damage sliced, using a damage pu, spamming strafeshot2 and all...

So, yeah...it gets worse!

RankorCity makes really good points, but I found that the prof does get better in some ways as you go up. Why do I say this? You're more versatile.

As a Master Rifleman you can get into solo groups and pull 30k payout Mokk missions from Dantooine. Each mission can be completed quickly if you know how to work it. I made enough money to be comfortable (at least for now) by simply grinding out these missions. The other nice thing is that Mokks/Jantas will drop loot. Crystals, loot kit pieces, Janta's blood, etc. all drop from these guys. People are usually buying these items so there is a little extra money for you.

The other nice thing is that if you team up with other folks, you can actually be a valuable asset on the "higher level" areas of the game. A Master Rifleman will always be handy to have on Krayt hunts, Geo-raids, Nightsister attacks and any of the other high-loot areas in the game. If you're lucky onthese runs, you can easily make some nice cash. Key word though...is lucky.

The bad part however, is just what RankorCity said: Mind-buffing foods are essential...and they ain't cheap. I never leave home without a case of canape, brandy, and ahrisa on me. All of these foods cost about 200k a crate (some vendors may be cheaper, but I'm talking ballparks here.). Canape is definitely the most cost-ineffective, as the buff time is short, yet the bonus is almost essential for you to use your special attacks.

Speed attachments are insanely expensive as well, not to mention rare.

High-end rifles, not the generic factory runs are essential to a PvP or high-level PvE rifleman. On my server, run of the mill T21's go for a minimum of 25k to a max. of 45k on average. Really good builds start at 60k and go up from there. The DXR-6b is anecessity and these things start at 70k (I know one WS who makes them this cheap..the others start the bidding at 125k)and can easily run into the millions for a true quality build. Jawas are a bit less pricey, but a decent one is still going to be at least 30k.

And don't forget the Composite Armor. I like to have a Kinetic suit, an Energy suit, and a Stun suit. And then there'sthe fact that I will eventually break the kinetic suit and need a new one.On the whole, 80% kinetic/energy composite can be found for 200k a suit, but will more than likely be around 300-400k (this is the market average on my server) Stun usually starts at 500k.

It is a bit of an uphill battle, but I love the profession and will likely never abandon it. You can make money, though never as much as an Artisan-type or Doctor, but it's all about enjoying the profession. I don't want to be a crafter or a Doc,I wouldn't find that fun. In my opinion, the profession gets infinitely better once you are a master, because you can make back all the money you spent to get there and have the satisfaction ofknowing that you are playing a gun-fighter, despite the fact that SOE has blatantly shown favor to the melee' professions(except for the Pikeman...I kind of feel bad for them because they don't quite seem up to par either)

Rifleman rocks.

credits are easy to get at master...

just have:

friends...

abike...

some food, drinks, drugs (i'm still addicted to moun)...

a good set of armor ubese orkin comp enc sliced (70% kin at least)...

and your trusty T21...

group with your friends...

doc and entertainer buffs...

head to dath or dant (alone) and gettwo 36k missions in the same direction...

the mission is to destroy the lair not the mobs that spawn from it ...

enraged rancor lairs take about 35 secs to kill max... kill the lair, hop on your bike and drive away...

but i make my money harvesting meat and hides, selling the things i loot of NS's and krytes (both are soloable)...

i also just started a new toon heres how i've done it:

1 set of comp armor (just what i had lieing around) so 300k there

bought 8 rifles (100k total) 2 dtla20's (stocked), 4 lasers (2 stocked, 2 unstocked, why i bothered with the laser i don't know), and 2 E11's (best grinding rifle by far)

a crate of moun

and tipped him 100k (so he could get the things i didn't have on hand, and get buffed)...

took him to my neighbor city, grouped with the ppl that are always hanging around there, got doc and entertainer buffs (20k)... then started running lvl 99 missions for about 2k each, easy mobs but lots per spawn... used the dtla til rifles 4 then the E11 (which i'll use till master)... in one buff set i got to 1/0/0/0 in rifleman (i was stupid and took a couple missions where mobs intimidate other wise it could have been alot more)... i figure in 2 more buff sets i'll have master... the only other thing i'll have to buy is a couple of jawa's (i forgot to get him a couple) and maybe a new chest peice... i don't waist my time with WPU's unless i'm big game hunting... and my slices and drugs are free (my main is MSmuggler/MRifle and some other junk)... plus i got luck last night and hit alternanting 30%+ speed and damge on the rifles i bought... and hit mostly 38+ enc slices on the armor (too bad the helm got a 16 eff)...

point blank area1 is your friend... and torturs die quick... use a jawa on the mutant kummera's (better exp per kill)... the missions i run give about 50k exp per lair, even at novice rifleman it took less than one moun per lair...

If I had to guess, I'd say Commando is the most expensive ranged profession. There is little demand for their weapons which helps keep their price relatively high. Also a large amount of their weapons are disposables.

Armor and buffs are pretty constant thru all the professions so that shouldn't be to much of a factor as they will cancel each other out.

I have to disagree, pistoleer tends to be really expensive, a pistoleer usually needs good high damage weapons that comes with a price which often ends up being Krayted, Spiderfang, Gorax and Geo Sonic/DE-10 crafts. You can buy a T21 at any local vendor for 20-50K but an enhanced and sliced FWG5 or Rep blaster is going to bump you 200-500K and a Geo blaster 500K-2.5M depending on the slices.

The Berserker rifle is next to useless besides a showoff weapon (like the Hack) in public and a wall display, the Krayted or high end Jawas are rare but are set with a price.

Pistoleer is more expensive, take it from my experience, I've been a rifleman along with my swordsman for 3+ months and now doing another template with rifleman in it.

How I miss Day of Defeat, I haven't played that game in a year, I have played it since Y2K I believe. I'm also a WW2 fanatic.

I speed capped for 106K. Got a +1 Speed on the Bazaar for 6K, got a +1 CA on auction (actually bought 3 of them) for 100K. With MM, there you go. If you don't have MM, then yea, gonna cost you.

Sorry but I just moved from pistoleer to rifleman and I totally disagree. To get even close to the damage ratings of rifles and carbines, you have to spend a ton of money on pistols. Considering pistols are the lowest DPS weapons out there and pistoleer alone is severly unerpowered and out of balance, to be at all compative you need some true master WS pistols. I would spend anywhere from 50-300k on the everyday pistols I used fwg5, dx2 and republic blaster. Then the special ones like Geo sonci blaster, will start at about 2 mil for decent damage on them.

I have been spending much less money with rifles.

Oh and I go through powerups much much much slower with rifles then I do with pistols.

Yes, it costs a bunch if you get a speed sliced T-21 with a buncha speed power-ups. Wanna know why? to use a higher damage (Or even any T-21) you'll need to get buffed because it has higher HAM costs that just about any rifle, except maybe the DXR-6b.

If you get a couple E11's, (Which on Kettemoor cost about as much as a nice T-21) You can get damage slices, and then use speed power-ups till you get 0/0/0/3, then you can shoot fast enough to solo quenker lairs, if you have lots of stim b's and brandy. No armor required, and you can even get neutron pixie if ya really need it. All thats required is that you don't AoE the lairs so that every quenker/other creature you hunt comes out to attack you, but shoot at the lair till one comes out.

I got to 3/1/3/3 rifleman this way.

New price tag:

  • Crate of 10 Varasian Brandies: 45K (I think thats what it is - I only get the crates of 25 : / )

  • Crate of Stim B's: 50K for a crate of 50 (At least if you shop around on Kettemoor) And also, I bought a crate of 50 stim b's, and it lasted 6 months, so a crate of 25, which is cheaper would do fine till ya mastered.

  • E11's (Not ones made for damage, but one made for low HAM costs) 6-10K per rifle.

  • Slices till you get a decent damage (25%+) max 5k per slice (On Kettemoor)

  • Neutron Pixie (Optional) 6-8k a crate (On Kettemoor)

So, it would cost about 118k, depending on your luck with slicing, and if you do indeed decide to get neutron pixie.

You'd make all that up by the time you get to 3/1/3/3. So depending on whether you wanna be frugal, or just go out and kill stuff straight on, it can be cheap, or expensive.

Hunting without buffs is more fun too - you actually have to stay at the computer.

Even if your not rifleman these foods and drinks are essential(or at least I used them even before I went Rifleman), so I don't really see where Rifleman becomes more expensive.
