As I was leaving my hometo gohunting I picked up a pistol instead of my rifle...

Ladies and gentlemen it was so easy...I had a total of 222 pts of pistol exp when I started..not even marksman pistol I...

I used my non-ch pet to pull (a mountain Krevol) and just opened up with bazaar pistols...no powerups, no slicing.. I was pistol I after 1 mission, pistol II after second mission pistol III after 3rd and 4th mission....I had no expectation of leveling so quickly....I imagine if you were really trying, not running missions, not trying to get ch exp, you could hit pistoleer in an evening

.........not sure I ever dropped more then 25 percent in any of my stats

.........it was so nice doing the same damage the pet was doing...we actually complemented each others damage!...what a concept!!..

.......when I didn't queuean attackmy pistol still fired health damage....my pistol fired the same damage type as my specialized attacks...if you use a rifle and don't have an attack queued you do mostly health damage (occasional head hit) not mind damage.

.......I ended up at melee distance a few times...they hit me for a laughable 100 pts of damage...I still won the fight!!!

I'm not sure I can go back...I haven't surrendered any of my rifle skills and will wait for the next patch...but the grass may really be greener

I should say I had my rifle selected when I picked up missions..then switched to my bazaar pistol.

Used to be you could spawn faction missions within 200m of the terminal in some places. So I had my doctor friend stand there and spam missions (aquire, aquire, abort, abort, repeat) while I ran around shooting the NPC's for fast faction.

You get more faction for using a lower level weapon, so I decided to get up to Scout Blaster and use a pistol.

Soooo much easier. I swear I could have been Novice Pistoleer in one day. Run up to a camp and start shooting, a lot of the low level NPC's are melee and charge you. Just stand there and when they get there use the Point Blank Area Attack 1 and kill em all. A rifleman of the same level would have DIED, but as a pistoleer I could clear out 2 camps, heal myself once with my 0000 Medic skill and keep running.

It was insane faction and insane pistol XP with none of the risks or downsides I was accustomed to as a rifleman.

I know some people don't like to hear it, but riflemen do suck and if you disagree then I submit that you have never fired a pistol in this game.

I think the devs need to read this post. And realize generally rifles are considered more powerful than pistols.

It is a very sad state of affairs that when I get stuck up close with a bunch of MOBs, I pull out my DL-18 Pistol and just waste them all. Range in this game DOES NOT WORK because the game is set up to give melee characters a chance. They don't have much of a chance, granted, but they DO have a chance. And as long as melee needs to have any expectation of getting in range and doing damage, we (under the current accuracy system) will always always always get destroyed.

Yep, i've stopped running from Mobs as well. I just whip out my trusty FWG5 and nail them at melee range. Never even thought about pistol xp until last night when i noticed i had accumulated 175,000 points in ONE night of running around Kor Vella. That's novice pistoleer + half way to pistol whip.

Since Sunday i've been out every night for two to three hours getting rifle xp - i've managed 60k in four nights. Made me sick to see how slow it racked up in comparison to rifle.

Just for a laugh, i then started using the pistol, spamming BS2 for an hour - at 60m i was watching the combat window...

You use Chest Shot for 283 points of damage
You use Chest Shot for 350 points of damage
You use Chest Shot for 492 points of damage
You use Chest Shot for 180 points of damage
You miss
You use Chest Shot for 301 points of damage
You gain 591 Pistol XP

Man, all i did was openup on a rogue bag - one miss from 5 shots! It was like that all night. I've never hit four times in a row with the rifle, even at ideal range (60m).

Aggg, if i wasn't so stubborn and determined to make master rifleman, i'd be switching right now.

I've picked up a pistol too. Its so easy. Its like all of the ranged penalites have been lifted off of the my shoulders... Oh wait... they have been. I use a crappy D18 to do my faction missions now. The rewards are good and I never get killed. This pistol stuff is so tempting...

I wish my rifle had that kind of appeal...

My will is good. I will not abandon my rifles. I just wish the grass was as green....

I've been keeping a pistol at my side from the beginning, I figured everyone did. Its the one weapon ono class can live without. My focus has been rifleman, but I'm halfway to pistoleer just from figthing the MOBs that get in close. and there are a lot of them.

I'll say this, pistol is easy, and at times essential, but it's not as FUN as doing those big damage rifleman hits.

*stares longingly at the pistols in the bazaar*

Best DPS in the game is pistols.

All the DPS comparisons aren't taking krayt dragon tissues into account. The T21 is the best DPS rifle, but since tissues add a fixed number to the damage, you get a higher percentage increase by using it on lower damage weapons.

For example --

Weapon A: 300 damage, firing speed 2 (150 dps).
Weapon B: 150 damage, firing speed 1 (150 dps).

With a +30 damage tissue, it's now 330/2 (165 dps)versus 180/1 (180 dps).

This is why a T21 made with tissues isn't much better (and costs 700k because it uses 9 tissues) but lower damage pistols get a significant percent increase for much lower cost (I believe the pistoleer pisol uses 5 tissues but the FWG uses 1).

Krayt's aren't that hard to kill, either.
