Thread: So you guys are missing a correspondent...

I've already passed on to Thunderhear that Klawlegna has been MIA for a few weeks now. The Combat Balance sandbox server is coming online in a little over a month. This phase of the CB is supposed to have a great deal of interaction with the correspondents and the community, so I made it clear that you guys don't want a "newbie correspondent" at the helm and it is prudent that you get one in place as soon as possible so he/she can get a few weeks under his/her belt. Thunderheart hasn't yet responded, but I'm sure he's read it and knows what needs to be done.

In the meantime, are there any new pressing issues that need resolution? Something klaw wasn't around for and hasn't dealt with? Not ongoing issues that have been around for months, but things that may have not yet been reported as a result of your absent correspondent.

Like we said before we are really fine:

Our Specials work, though Suprise shot is sorta worthless.

Our Weapons are fine except with the inconsistant range issue.

Block now works, who woulda thunk that?

Klaw really addressed the issues we had and we already got answers (well an answer, in the Combat Balance this issue will be addressed). We have no real issues with our profession and like it as is, know this is a little diffrent from your forum but really I can't think of anything and I've been a rifleman/user since release.

If you get them to spill the beans on the Combat Balance we will make ya an honorary Rifleman

I just made the transition from Master Carbineer, and I am now working solidly into Rifleman. This profession is pretty damned lethal as it is, I think the only thing I'd try to add (even though I'm a n00b here), is that a hard speed cap of three seconds isn't needed.

Better to use Special Attack formula adjustments to make some attacks fast HMG style shots and others slower sniper style shots.

Other than that, these guys seem pretty well off.

Randonb,

Thanx for covering. No major immediate game breaking issues that I can think of. It's mostly little things right now that have been around for awhile.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Most of the regulars also post in the Rifleman Hall thread so if you have any Rifleman specific questions and don't want to start a new thread that wold be a good place to post.

I have no complaints about anything on Live but thought I'd bring this up from what I've experienced on Test. The new line of sight changes are a pain. Not sure if you or anyone else has done some combat on test but line of sight seems a little too finicky right now. I can understand not wanting people to shoot through mountains, but a lot of times you'll see most of the mob, maybe he's behind a tiny 1 foot hill and you'll get a "You can't see your target" message. This can make it pretty tough for a rifleman because it's not easy finding a nice flat piece of land 60m from your target, especially tougher for leveling rifleman, as the accuracy won't hurt you as much at master to stand 10m away.

Also, there seems to be a bug with the "You can't see your target" messages. If you try and fire your first special at a target that is either out of range or you can't see, then you won't lose any HAM for that special, but, if you have 3 attacks queued up, your first one hits and then the mob moves behind a tree/rock/anthill, you'll lose HAM from the next special even though you'll get the "You can't see your target" message and no damage will be done. That doesn't seem right to me.

Another issue is the delay to switching weapons. I can understand why they are putting it in, but I really think they should have a better visual indicator for it. You can hit your hotkey to switch to another rifle but nothing happens, so you have no idea if you are in the "delay" period or if you accidentally didn't hit the hotkey. I think they should have the new weapon highlighted, but still can delay the next queued attack, or put something in the combat queue or something like that, as is it's frustrating standing there and not knowing if you really will switch weapons or not. This is also troublesome for novice rifleman because I'll be sitting at 60m and take my 3 shots with my laser rifle, and if the critter is not dead I'd like to switch to my spraystick as it's biting me. But I'll hit the hotkey and nothing will happen, even after waiting awhile, so I'm not sure if it's actually still "delayed" or if it was a mi**edit**.

Maybe this stuff should go more towards the "In Test" or "Test Center" forums, but I'm guessing it would get more visibility coming from a correspondent. (Oh yeah, can you tell I'm a noob rifleman on Test :smileytongue

I don't think there's anything left now; some of it was fixed and the rest is either being ignored or "will be addressed in the combat balance".

There will be a ton of crap to complain about when they put the test server up (LOS system sucks, devs seem to think a slow immobile rifleman is viable in PVP, etc) but until then I can't think of any issues that would get a response other than "wait for combat balance".

I am concerned with the LOS system. If hills are going to be blocking me, then maybe extending the range from 64 m, that isn't going to happen, so yes shooting through hills is unrealistic but as is shooting from a max of 64 m with a rifle is unrealistic too.... I really don't like shooting through hills but with the range limit on rifleman, and the sweet spot, that perfect distance to get 100% accuracy will limit and maybe hurt some rifleman... Have they fixed it that even if you can see the mob in first person but enough of him is behind a rock that you get the LOS problem?

Guys,

We need a Correspondent to fight for us in regards to the soon-to-come Combat Balance. We all know there is a huge possibility of us getting seriously nerfed. We need someone to prevent that.

unless they changed it recently, it uses their feet to calculate LOS so you have a lot of trouble unless it's flat ground or they're directly uphill.
