Fencer Got:
COB, Blind, and dodge(much better then block)
Rifleman Got:
Heavy Quick Damage and you can hit your targets from a great distance
If you like using Ranged weapons go rifleman, if you like great defence and can live without ranged attacks go fencer.
Since the combat rebalance is coming in the next 2 months, I think everything will change. As stated, weapons and the speed of attacks will all change in the combat rebalance. I'll bet that Rifleman will be slower and keep the damage output. I've heard of mind becoming healable through stims and so forth as well, I'll believe it when I see it. So you know in some way the Rifleman profession as it is now will change, only question is will you like the change.
Fencer, hmmm besides their defenses I dont know how they can be nerfed.... speed wise they are ok(they are supposed to be the speedprofession for mele afterall)and their weaponshave ap0 for the most part so I dont see a problem there either. And the fact that they will get dual weapons soon, I'm personally going to go Fencer as my long term investment.
Bottom line, I think Rifleman is great (currently I'm 4/1/0/4) with very few negatives (one being its the longest combat grind I've ever had!!!!).Its going to change though,usuallywhen a change happens and your at the top of the food chain, its not going to be pretty.

I would say that a good melee combo will beat a ranged one more often than the other. How are you supposed to win a guy you cant hit properly?

Here's why.Riflemen iswatchinghis radar and seesa red dot coming, he examines and sees that it's master fencer/master tka.He starts walking sideways to the fencer.At 64 metershe begins shootingflushing shot at the fencer with a 120+ range modded powered up with a range mod pwp laser rifle, E11 or DXR6. He sticksa stun onthe fencerbeforehe get to 40m, even though the fencer has hit burst run already. The fencer'sdefenses are now mute andthe riflemencould hithim with a pistol from 60 meters ifhe so chose.He switches to HS3 witha krayt jawaand does100 damage per second and realizes within2 shots thatthe fencer has nice stun armor and thathis 3000+ mind is going nowhere.The fencer isnow at 25 meters and he's still moving away.He burst runs and switch tohis T21. Nowhe's doing350 dps tothe fencer'smind. Withhis burst run still going,the fenceris gone approx10 secondslater having never gotten one hit in. Dodge and COB are great, but they make guns that can get through, even if it takes 2 or 3 shots.
A melee prof is great for taking damage and for avoiding being hit, but only so great. If you have no ranged, you are going to die to a ranged master if you do not find a way to get within range of dealing damage to him before he is doing damage to you.
The most effectPVP templates today imo are Doc/Riflemen, Doc/CMor a mix between melee and ranged where you have both ranged damage mitigation 3 and melee damage mitigation 3, fencer COB, TKA power boost, and master riflemen.
