I would say that a good melee combo will beat a ranged one more often than the other. How are you supposed to win a guy you cant hit properly?

Personally, I am tkm + master rifle + 1/4/4/0 fencer. /shrug
Here's why.Riflemen iswatchinghis radar and seesa red dot coming, he examines and sees that it's master fencer/master tka.He starts walking sideways to the fencer. At 64 metershe begins shootingflushing shot at the fencer with a 120+ range modded powered up with a range mod pwp laser rifle, E11 or DXR6. He sticksa stun onthe fencerbeforehe get to 40m, even though the fencer has hit burst run already. The fencer'sdefenses are now mute andthe riflemencould hithim with a pistol from 60 meters ifhe so chose. He switches to HS3 witha krayt jawaand does100 damage per second and realizes within2 shots thatthe fencer has nice stun armor and thathis 3000+ mind is going nowhere. The fencer isnow at 25 meters and he's still moving away.He burst runs and switch tohis T21. Nowhe's doing350 dps tothe fencer'smind. Withhis burst run still going, the fenceris gone approx10 secondslater having never gotten one hit in. Dodge and COB are great, but they make guns that can get through, even if it takes 2 or 3 shots.
A melee prof is great for taking damage and for avoiding being hit, but only so great. If you have no ranged, you are going to die to a ranged master if you do not find a way to get within range of dealing damage to him before he is doing damage to you.
The most effectPVP templates today imo are Doc/Riflemen, Doc/CMor a mix between melee and ranged where you have both ranged damage mitigation 3 and melee damage mitigation 3, fencer COB, TKA power boost, and master riflemen.

Ah but if mister fencer has doc, he heals the stun state, sticks ya with blind, sticks ya with a dizzy, posture changes ya, hammers ya while on the ground with 1H hit 3, right before you get up sticks an imtimidate on ya, your blind drops so hesticks another blind on ya- Rinse repeat(now if their 2 docs, thats a good fight)

i fought a fencer while i had TKM and MCH and we closed i sic'd my rhoa kwi pack leader on him and gave the command to do its specials. the kwi started dizzying and psture downing like mad. the fencer starts to flop and he laughs at my 50 pts a hit. 5 minutes later with his mind 70% gone and dropping he stops laughing and stops taunting me. the few times he got up he tried to hurt me but to little effect before the kwi had him doing a flounder imitation. then he tried taking out the kwi... i kept him intimidated as needed and tossed an occasional pet stim and he started getting worried.
a coupe of minutes later it was by-by rebel fencer and 45 faction for me.
he completely underestimated my MCH title. it would have been a lot faster with rifles. hence the end to my second round of holo grinding.
i realized that i cant kill anything bigger than a rancor as a TKM and thats where i stopped in the grind. makes me mad when i read about a krayt hunt on a krayt i had to pass by that i found out later dropped 11 193dmg .53 tissues... made me sick to think that no one had touched it for so long and i was forced to stand by and watch when a group came by killed it and i could have done that if i was rifle at the time. i know it had those tissues when i read about it later describing the players involved and the location of the beast.

How many times have you seen an overt of the opposite faction at 50M+ range and he's not behind a building or a simple wall? In your example, the opponent is like a braindead zombie, you expect him to just run after you while you shoot his head off? Another thing, your flushing shot does not hit all the time(when it does, sweet.)
I dont know if it's just me, but I had a duel with a fencer, with some TKA and ... I cant remember the rest. The duel went on like this: I started trying to headshot, didnt work. Flushingshot? Didnt work.(at this time I had to burstrun.) I start spamming flushing and whatnot, just to see if I could get anything to stick. All I see is his HAM moving slightly and regen. It wasnt too long till I got forced to kneel and had to watch the remainder of my HAM slowly vanish, to the acklay-made stun-baton.
I know us riflemen do have a chance against those guys, when we get that flushingshot in. It does help having 20+ to accuracy, so Ive heard. Not everyone has the credits to get the fancy krayt made Jawas, T-21s, DXR6-Bs and that legendary 42% stun 90% rest composite.
Having said that, I have beaten that kinda stacker before. It's just not all the time that almost everything goes as planned in a battle against something that's not a total zombie with /follow;/drool and no burstrun.

I hear ya, not everyone has the gear. But...
Most weaponsmiths make the guns that sell quickly. Damage sells, so they don't stock guns that have really nice range mods. For 100k (or less), you can have a laser or E11 rifle where they use all their experimentation points in the range mods custom made.
Set up a macro to equip your E11 or laserand fire2 flushing shots. For almost all targets you'll get it to stick. Riflemen have the best range mods of the ranged professions. If you find you're still having trouble getting your flushing to stick, save a little room in your stomach by eating only 2 canapes instead of 3 and eat a citrus snow cake or a crispic to increase your accuracy even further. Also on your accuracy gun put an accuracy powerup instead of the standard damage powerup.
Other than that, pick your battles. If there's a building between you and your target, start running away towards more open space before you engage. Smart meleers will back off, but if they do, them maybe it's not your battle. If they come at you, you kite cause that's how riflemen get their advantage.
