Do any riflemen care about what we make for you? Maybe I'll just stick to what everyone else is crafting - experiment for dmg, no optionals. there ya go. Anyone ?

I actually prefer damage...Like you said, one shot kills makes specials HAM cost's almost irrelevant.

Slice for speed though...

What do you do when the mob(s) start chasing you? Would you like to switch off to a faster lighter rifle with medium-range potential, or do you just change down to a carbine ? Or just try running/kiting with you sniper rig which doesnt work well in that situation.

You're going to get a lot of different answers for different people. If you wish to specialize in rifles it's best to know your client by reading the forum.

Personally I keepthe following handy (dmg @ reload)

dlt20 for HAM cost and small MoB's (140ish-200ish @ 5.5ish)

Tusken rifle for good min damage and long range (130-260ish @ 6-7ish)

Spray stick for warning shot and while running away (who cares @ 1.3ish)

Laser Rifle for almost everything else (26-390ish @ 6ish)

Uh yeah, thanks smurf. Actually I have been reading the forum but some of it's a bit over my head, since I'm not quite master marksman I can't even try out some of the advanced shots you guys talk about, and when you say like taking cover is crap or whatever I have no idea why really, and there's a lot of stuff that doesnt directly pertain to rifle construction per se. But I do read it it is interesting although there is a lot.

Thanks for posting your weapons/specs. Our top specs on starsider are different - I have no way of knowing from your post whether your specs are different because of slicing/powerups or just resources available on your server. From now on in my posts I'm just going to stick with base stats - non-sliced, non-powered up.

So UniSmurf,

Would it be correct to say then that you're ideal build-out would be:

dlt20a experimented for dmg/spd, no stock/scope, sliced/powered for speed

tusken experimented for range stopping power, stock and scope, slicedpowered for dmg (your sniper weapon)

spraystick experimented for dmg (or HAM?) sliced/powered for speed (or HAMs ?) (carbine equivalent sorta)

Laserrifle experimented for dmg/spd, (stock and/or scope ?) sliced/powered for ???

Glad to see you here and willing to cater to riflemen (and women). I have been using a laser rifle for most of my work lately. I like having the heavy hit of it. When the T21 becomes available on Bria I'm sure that will be my favorite.

I would have to say I like max damage with a good speed as my primary concern. I use the spraystick sliced for speed up close as I run away....

As a side note, do you have the template for the T21 available yet or are you still grinding towards it?

Hi Zev,

I'm a Master smith - I have the template In addition to common materials, some of thespecific ones required for the T21 rifle are:

Ditanium Steel (not on Starsider )

Polonium Iron

Alantium Carbonate Ore (not on SS)

Gallinoirian Rainbow Gemstone

Interestingly this rifle also requires a whopping *ten* identical blaster power-handlers.

We can't make laser rifles (or carbines) on SS yet either (sigh). So far we havent seen any ditanium steel, polysteel copper, linkmetal aluminum, axidite iron ... the list goes on. Irolunn reactive gas .....

Thanks for your post !

Could I ask you for a huge favor please? Is there any way you can post the template for the T21 or post a link to it? I really would like to see the Experimental information for it.... I'm a surveyor/miner and I gather the materials for my weapons and I would like to know what qualities are needed for experimentation.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not sure EXACTLY what you're looking for as I do not know the quirks of weapon creation but here is what I use/used.

I used a DLT20a up until rifle specialist in the marksman tree, I did NOT know how good laser rifle was, and I believe it wasn't that good at all then.. because my speed was slow, and my specials were not that good. Ham was unimportant here. Damage and speed all the way. Best I've seen on lowca is 112-180 5.2 or something, which still does nothing near a laser rifle in damage (because laser is AR 2..)

After this I used an E11 for awhile, I used it for the damage and speed and AR 2. Ham costs were unimportant on this as they were low. It was 70-145 5.4 or so, I believe. Very nice weapon, still another "hold me over till I get a good laser" rifle. I do not use this anymore, even though it would be a good "mid range alternative" I've found at master rifleman, switching is a waste of time even at melee range, I do not even use a spraystick (I have a 145 max dmg spraystick with 2.1 or 2.4 speed, I forget)

On to current: 20-354 6.2 base laser rifle sliced for damage, 20-447 now. I do not switch weapons anymore, at all, at master rifleman. It is AR 2, and has serious damage potential when you rail off special attacks, but the HAM hurts on this one, with a 60 mind cost.. with max mind stats, I can't chain specials, but I can still get off a good amount of them before I'm a sitting duck. I'd like to see lower hams on a laser that is similar damage, if the T21 isn't fixed. Just a little lower mind w*ould be awesome.

T21: Does not exist on lowca. Even so, I would not use this weapon except for getting in mind shot 1, and mind shot 2, then I'd switch to laser. AR0 is simply disheartening, I do not know why everyone complains about not having these, as it stands now they are useless.

Jawa rifle, SG82, Tuskan, all have been of little use to me, very little.

i currently use a sliced laser rifle with a max dmg powerup. the total on it is 20-565 speed 6.1 or 6.2 as my main weapon.

DLT20a for real lengthy battles where HAM matters, because DLT20s have lowest HAM costs

and a spraystick for when i need to get mad warning shots off in a hurry and some tactical occasions. its sliced (for speed) and with powerup also, stats are around 7-178 dmg, 1.4 speed.

i havent had the opportunity to try out E11s yet, for some reason i havent seen one on my server for taht matter. i'm on Intrepid.

Ultimately i would like to use 2 T21s + spraystick. one T21 will be sliced for speed and low HAM powered, while the other will be max possible dmg per shot.

kinda bummer i can only dream about that though, as the only guy that can make em is into ripping people off like mad. i hope his ISP dies or something, hehe

What are the stats on the e-11s you are making. The best I have seen topped out at 140 damage and speed was 5.1 or 5.2. I am looking for some E-11s to play with. Want to see how much difference the AR2 makes. The HAM costs seemed to be about 30 per shot higher than my DLT on the e-11 I have, but it is far from a good one.

Hi, my name is Mira.

Some of my history: for my entire career as a smith I've specialized in melee weapons. As I was working upmy skills I would regularly get ambushed by mutant womp rats, desert demons and the like, as I moved between shopand factory. This was quite annoying, particularly when they were spawning right on top of my harvesters. So I took up marksmanship

Of course I began with a pistol because they would run right at me. However as my shooting skill has increased I have discovered the joys of the rifle Now with my wimpy health bar I prefer to avoid toe-to-toe dustups, and I'm no fighter, so I appreciate being able to take thoseaggressive mobsout with one head shot -at range. Makes my life a lot easier. Now I've decided I like rifles so much I'm going to take up a new hobby: custom crafting specialist rifles for those who appreciate them the most.

Please keep in mind a few things if you respond to this post: I am on Starsider, where we have mediocre Plumbum so far (e11) and no materials for t21 or Lasers as of yet. That being said I'm interested in a general discussion on rifles, rather than server-specific topics. This is because we will eventually get our resources, and also they are about to debug HAM-cost experimentation on stocks and scopes etc, and I am planning on taking advantage of that when it happens.

So tell me, riflemen: what kind of guns do you really want a smith to build you? Are there not different situations ? Ideally I know your hiding in grass, undercover, blasting at mobs who can't see you And then there's PvP, groups of aggro mobs chasing you etc.

It seems to me a dedicated technical rifle expert would want several weapons, each designed for a particular use. So what is your ideal sniper weapon? For example, I'm considering building a sniper rifle, stock and scope experimented for range and dmg, barrel experimented for dmg/spd, and power-handlers luck-experimented for "tight-band" damage. The idea would be to produce a rifle with maximum stopping power and accuracy at range, witha narrower damageband for more reliable hits. This weapon of course would be slow and have high HAM costs (can't have your cake and eat it too). But if you drop your target with one shot, does speed matter so much ? I would like to know, what you think of this idea, which base rifle chassis you think this would be best suited for, and please any other serious ideas/suggestions for specialized rifle versions.

By the way I have some of my own terminology. Tight-band as opposed to wide-band dmg refers to what some call "variance", for example dmg 111-178 is wide-band, whereas 120-160 is tight-band in my language. And luck-experimentation refers to something you usually dont get in smithing but occasionally stumble across with enough tries (usually at the expense of some other characteristic such as speed or overall avg. dmg).

Keep in mind also, you can design and build the ultimate rifle for a certain purpose, then slice it and apply powerups to either amplify it's purpose or remedy some of it's weaknesses. As a master artisan I'll be working on these combinations for each rifle, trying to find the ideal solutions.

I'm going to be working up some different version of stocks, scopes and barrels soon and trying them out in different combinations with dlt20as and e11 rifles, and I'll post the stats when I'm finished my preliminaries. In the meantime please feel free to lend me the benefit of your expertise as Riflemen
