Thread: Master Weaponsmith, seeking feedback/info from professional Riflemen
Hi, my name is Mira.
Some of my history: for my entire career as a smith I've specialized in melee weapons. As I was working upmy skills I would regularly get ambushed by mutant womp rats, desert demons and the like, as I moved between shopand factory. This was quite annoying, particularly when they were spawning right on top of my harvesters. So I took up marksmanship
Of course I began with a pistol because they would run right at me. However as my shooting skill has increased I have discovered the joys of the rifle
Now with my wimpy health bar I prefer to avoid toe-to-toe dustups, and I'm no fighter, so I appreciate being able to take thoseaggressive mobsout with one head shot -at range. Makes my life a lot easier. Now I've decided I like rifles so much I'm going to take up a new hobby: custom crafting specialist rifles for those who appreciate them the most.
Please keep in mind a few things if you respond to this post: I am on Starsider, where we have mediocre Plumbum so far (e11) and no materials for t21 or Lasers as of yet. That being said I'm interested in a general discussion on rifles, rather than server-specific topics. This is because we will eventually get our resources, and also they are about to debug HAM-cost experimentation on stocks and scopes etc, and I am planning on taking advantage of that when it happens.
So tell me, riflemen: what kind of guns do you really want a smith to build you? Are there not different situations ? Ideally I know your hiding in grass, undercover, blasting at mobs who can't see you ![]()
And then there's PvP, groups of aggro mobs chasing you
etc.
It seems to me a dedicated technical rifle expert would want several weapons, each designed for a particular use. So what is your ideal sniper weapon? For example, I'm considering building a sniper rifle, stock and scope experimented for range and dmg, barrel experimented for dmg/spd, and power-handlers luck-experimented for "tight-band" damage. The idea would be to produce a rifle with maximum stopping power and accuracy at range, witha narrower damageband for more reliable hits. This weapon of course would be slow and have high HAM costs (can't have your cake and eat it too). But if you drop your target with one shot, does speed matter so much ? I would like to know, what you think of this idea, which base rifle chassis you think this would be best suited for, and please any other serious ideas/suggestions for specialized rifle versions.
By the way I have some of my own terminology. Tight-band as opposed to wide-band dmg refers to what some call "variance", for example dmg 111-178 is wide-band, whereas 120-160 is tight-band in my language. And luck-experimentation refers to something you usually dont get in smithing but occasionally stumble across with enough tries (usually at the expense of some other characteristic such as speed or overall avg. dmg).
Keep in mind also, you can design and build the ultimate rifle for a certain purpose, then slice it and apply powerups to either amplify it's purpose or remedy some of it's weaknesses. As a master artisan I'll be working on these combinations for each rifle, trying to find the ideal solutions.
I'm going to be working up some different version of stocks, scopes and barrels soon and trying them out in different combinations with dlt20as and e11 rifles, and I'll post the stats when I'm finished my preliminaries. In the meantime please feel free to lend me the benefit of your expertise as Riflemen ![]()
Mira:
Just for your interest in pleasing your ccustumer I will look you up and check your weapons. Having said that:
With what you have available in starsider IMHO this is what I will like to have
E11 with the highest possible damage: right now my headshots 3 are limited by the weapon I use.I'll explain, If I use a DLT20 111-178 speed with a 32% max damage power up I see very little increse on the damage performed around 800, otoh, If I put the same power up in my E11 110-144 the damage buble over my oponents head is ussualy around 1100.
DLT20: Fastest speed you can get; When drawn into a long battel and my mind bar is low I switch to this , I can keep doing HS1 and sometimes two while my ham recharges some.
I'm not sure about any other rifle since I haven't use them at all, But If the AR of either the tusken or the jawa rifle is one or two then I probably want it to be as hardhitting as possible.
This is just how I use it. I'm in SS too so if you need me to help you experiment, or anything at all just let me know at Pyu'meh. I'll be more than happy to help you.
Thank you gentlemen, for your replies. On our server we can't make spraysticks or T21s yes, so I'm looking at 3 rifles: the dlt20a, the e11, and the Tusken.
I've been in contact with a few SS riflemen. I'll be making Tusken's sniper-type (dmg/rng, scope/stock) and e11s. I'm going to try several versions of the e11. I will also attempt to make 2 versions of the dlt20a, for newbie Riflemen. I'll post the stats of these rifles in a few days, together with sliced results with various powerups, and I'll be asking for more feed back at that time.
Again, thank you ![]()
CloseHauled, what server are you playing on? If it's on starsider, I'd like to know the weaponsmith who made that e11... From the look of it it was 4.8 base speed and sliced for damage and the best e11 I have seen were 5.1 or 5.0 speed...
And Mira, I would also like to see how high dmg/speed you can get on e11.
My E11 is 86-164, 5.1 speed. You have a power up on that?
