Thread: TKM or Swords

I am a die-hard rifleman and just got an alt, so I am trying to create a good template with her and want some advice. I was Master Rifles and Swords with the rest in medicbefore and loved it, but I feel like I need Smuggler to live when soloing/fighting the big boys (NS Elders, Ancient Crayts, DWB, Corvette). So, here are 2 templates I am debating between. Keep in mind that I have a plus 16 2-handed speed CA.


Template 1

Master Rifleman

Smuggler 0010

Master TKM

Medic 2040


Template 2


Master Rifleman

Smuggler 0010

Master Swords

Medic 0030


I know how great swords is, but don't know the strength ofTKM, I would need the TKM to fight Protectors basically...Also, Swords has blast and kinetic, and I believe TKM is just kinetic, so that may be a factor.


Please post your thoughts.

Oh, also if I go with TKM I can stop bleeds, if I go with swords I will have to feign while the bleeds stop.

I hate Feign Death, but I understand why you're taking it.


That said...TKM is a much bettertank than a Swordsman thanks to the +57 Melee Toughness. You can stand up to virtually any mob with that so long as you have decent melee defense to back it up.


Swords has far better damage output, plus it can target the mind too, so it'll work well with Rifleman. If you have Feign, then I suppose tanking ability is not so much to worry about because you can just FD until you're back on your feet.


Simply put...TKM has better defenses, while a capped Swordsman is gonna do way more damage. You'll have to decide what's more important to you. Personally, I think Swords might me better since you have FD. Just my two cents.

Seeing as you have that brill CA already you dont really have an excuse not to go swords

Yea, I am leaning towards swords. I just was thinking TKM will allow me more medic, which is really handy, but with feign, I might not need it as much.

Swords has better state defenses (although not by much)... My favorite profession to play is TKM.... that being said, I'm a Master Swordsman because of the damage output.

Right now I'm Master Rifles/Master Swords and working on TK...I'd rock the swords just for the damage output..

It isn't more Skill Points but if you check his template he is doing Feign Death which requires the Unarmed tree from brawler - so he wouldn't be wasting the skill points just to get to smuggler if he does TKM - whereas in Swords he has to go up the Unarmed AND the Two-handed tree.....So basically if he goes TKM its only 29 Skill Points in brawler - if he goes swords it's 43.

I had to make the same exact decision as you do now. I went with Template 1 because of TKM Meditate and Powerboost. Plus I really like TKM to go along with Rifleman. TKA's have mind hit abilities as well, and getting 1 high damage VK is easier than finding an uber PH...

Well, I have a 223 damage VK with 1.1 speed - speed slice - I don't know, but I hear that is pretty awesome.


For Swords, I have most of the gear - some decent PHs, and I am about to have +20 speed from attachments.


Looking like I am going swords, but I would love to here more input from TKM/Riflemen.

IMO.... drop FD - Use the 40 SP you'd save to pick up better medic skills, say 2-0-4-0.


You could go

Master Swords

Master Rifles

Medic 2-0-4-0 (for the higher end stims, cure yourself for 1000+ to Action and Health)


You'd be let with 32 SP free, enough to pick up something useful like 4-0-0-0 in scout - soooo much quicker climing hills with that - damn useful if you being chased by an elder. Or some Fencer for a bit of Defence stacking....


I know how cool FD can be in PVE - I've used it a lot, but i'm sure you won't miss it that much.

My old template was master swords and rifles with medic 4040 and force. I was lucky ifI lived then when fighting elders.
