Thread: What's the best pet to guard a rifleman?
I'm an aspiring Master Rifleman (currently at Novice) who, surprise, surprise, needs something to have my back when I'm soloing... I'm sure I don't have to mention the reasons why (developers, help!).
Does anyone have any experience using a pet to guard them while sniping? I have no creature handling skills.
mjrfro...
If you are going PvE I can't help you, cause I solo PvE mainly. If you are asking about PvE I just want to say that you don't HAVE to have a pet to hunt. I have no pet and noCH skills either, but am high up Rifleman tree. If you use your tools and shots wisely, you can have a lot of fun hunting without a pet. That said, I am not against pets... just not my thing. I have hunted with friends with pets and it is a good way to go... I just prefer the challenge of taking the **edit** out on my own!
A commando.
Hehe no really, I use mountain krevols (lvl 14 from Naboo)and rock beetles (lvl 13 from Tatooine). Both have very similar stats, except the beetle has a ranged attack.
I'm a master rifleman, and there was a time I swore I'd never use a pet. Too bad times have changed... it's the best way to avoid getting warped onto. I have novice CH so I can hold 4 pets, but I'm going to drop it as soon as I qualify for some other skills I really want.
My suggestion (If you wanna take the easy road) would be to go ahead and get 1/1/0/0 in the CH field and get yourself a Greater Sludge Panther. These guys are absolutely one of the best pets/tanks for a minimal amount of CH skills. I did this and hunt Narglatch nests with ease. The pet can take on 4 or 5 nargs at a time while you just simply unload on whatever the pet is hitting (assist). Each kill is getting me 2k+ xp and 180 CH xp per kill which has in turn inclined me to climb further up the Ch tree and acquire myself some Graul Maulers now, which sadly I can't use yet but, they will be fully grown by the time I am ready.
Kinda said to say that we as riflemenhave to resort to using a pet to keep the critters off of us but hey, what are ya gonna do?? Post on a forum and hope a dev solves the problem?? pffffffft

at 1 1 0 0 CH im using a kliknik defender , 7.5k HAM 220 damage + AR1 + range attack
now im 2 2 0 0 , i will buy a groul as a tank ....
"Nothing comes close to the tanking value you get off a full grown Greater Desert Womp Rat."
I have one of these and love how he does that spitting attack. They are ugly and with the spitting attack, somehow I feel it is the perfect low level CH Rifleman pet.![]()
I have to agree that a pet is not necessarily a requirement if you choose your skills right. I am Ranger 3020, Rifleman 1201 working towards Master Rifleman. And concealshot rocks for hunting solo. On Naboo, I take down Fambaas every chance I get, usuallywithout so much as a scratch (provided I do not miss and break the conceal). Fambaas are worth on average about 3600 XP. Of course it can take a while since Concealshot does not target a specific pool. On the other hand, there are the times you encounter BAF (bring a friend) MOBs which conceal shot does not help with since only the target is unaware of your presence. There is also the fact that after two misses, sometimes one, you will be discovered and they will take their revenge. So it is nice to have some backup.
I am sure the beetles are nice, and I expect to get one soon, but I have to tell you, I love my Kahmurra. He is level 15, does 150-160 damage, and his HAM ranges from 2500 - 2600. A novice commando friend of mine and I both got incapped fighting some Giant Peko Pekos. Due to an error, the nest got hit unintentionallyand more spawned than we could handle. We were just turning to the last one when his Wrix went down, thenmy friend went down, then my concealshot broke, and I went down before I could switch to my pistol. The Peko headed back to my friend, but Spot, whom I had held back till just before I went down, went after him. This Peko was barely damaged, but Spot kicked his butt. He took on a second one another day, and fared a little less well, but was the victor none-the-less.
On an amusing note, last night I had him out covering my back on a faction mission. Since the mission targets spawned in the middle of a player city and I did not know if opposing PC characters were around, I did not want to get unexpectedly jumped. At the second target, I took out two of the three NPCs I had seen and decided to let Spot have the third. I sent him in, and he engaged the target. Then all of the sudden, a fourth NPC I had not seen came running out of camp, firing his pistol as he ran the other direction deserting his "friend." You could almost hear him saying, "What the crap is that?" I quickly dispatched him while Spot finished off the other guy.
Anyway, I expect to get a beetle to replace my miteat some point because I have heard good things about them, and while I accept the earlier advice on the Krevol/Beetle combination, I just can't give up my Kahmurra. He kicks butt.
I use a Bantha, both to prevent warping and to grop with increasing my XP. Unfortunately he gets hurt pretty bad all the time.
I find that masking scent and going prone I can kill most things within reason before they tromp me.
Good Luck.

CH 1,1,0,0: greater sludge panther 8k ham, 60% kinetic resistance, that's all that really matters anyway.
CH 2,2,0,0: Graul, 9300 HAM, 50% kinetic, armor 1, so they only take 25% damage from melees that don't pierce armor.
CH 3,2,0,0: Graul Mauler, 9700 HAM, 75% kinetic, Armor 1, These babies only take 12.5% damage from melee taht don't pierce armor. For kinetic tank, nothing compares to this guy (unless you get your hands on one of the extinct pets out there).
