Thread: Rifleman, can they avoid the nerf swing?

There is a very disturbing problem already in motion. It started maybe 2 months ago and is in full swing now. the problemis everyone and their grandmother is flocking to Rifleman ( combat medic too but ill just talk about Rifleman ).

I too have now joined the great majority.

The only defenses Rifleman have right now to ward off the nerf sheep is 1 ) they are *hard* to level and 2 ) they require mind foods.

Well, let me tell you Rifleman may be harder than some professions...... but.... its not that hard. In fact I dare to say I am leveling Rifleman WAY faster than I did Pistoleer... probably because I just know more about the game now...or is it because I can down yellows / reds in 4 shots?

They require mind foods, big deal... so does EVERY other profession going into pvp because... well everyone is a rifleman/CM spamming mind poison and head shots!

=============

DONT nerf rifleman! DONT nerf Combat Medics! ( Ok maybe take a little edge off their poison ).

The way I see it right now, Rifleman are simply LESS broken than the other combat professions. Every single profession in this game has plenty of broken, useless abilities. For Rifleman, the ones that *work* just happen to be high up the chain so they are very damaging, PLUS they target mind pool which even with the new mind foods is just so damn hard to protect and heal...just short of impossible. And they get 2 nasty pvp weapons - t21 and jawa.

I just cant fathom why SOE cannot fix this without a nerf swing. Give the other professions something to be excited about at the master level to counter the riflemans / CMs potency!!!! I am a broken record.. how many others have said this but I will say it too in hopes I can tip the scales...

==============

Now for some ideas, I am not totally up to date as to whats on test center but I am going to throw out some ideas...

Pistoleer - Disarming shot 2. Make this special actually prevent the target from attacking for some period of time in some manner. I would put this special on a 10 second timer at least so they cannot spam it. Increase the dmg and have it disable the targets ability to use a weapon for 5-10 seconds. This could really tip the scales vs a rifleman.

Carbineer - Lower their ham costs a bit, and give them something good at master level. How bout some +5 poison resists on one of their skill trees? That might counter cms a tad. How bout a master-leg shot that does a bleed to their action pool but ALSO SLOWS the opponents run speed? Another great counter to rifleman as they can now get in close range and weaken riflemans rediculous potency from long range.

Bounty Hunter - We all know Bounty hunters weakness is their defenses. But, who cares .. they SHOULD be all offense so lets kick it up a notch. I dont see why bounty hunters shouldnt get their own poison... or a really nasty bleed.. one better than anything they currently have.

Commando - Honestly I dont know too much about this profession.no Suggestions I believe they are already pretty good but I think one or 2 of their skill trees really suck? How bout a couple +5 to bleed / poison / disease resist?

Combat Medic - Another class in danger of being nerf back into complete suckyness due to the nerf herders. But I think the answer is in more resist items to poison or ranged heals for it. The AEs need to be toned a bit in dmg. How about reducing their mind wnd dmg for the mind heals?

Ok I just threw out a few ideas but the point is, FIX or ADD specials for the other professions, and do this for the MASTER levels!

Do not nerf rifleman.

Do not nerf Combat medic ( or if you do give them something to compensate for poison since thats all they are )

If you do swing that nerf bat, swing it at the damn lag

There has been no "official" statement to "nerf" the profession of Rifleman. We are all simply waiting on the Weapon/HAM/Combat Balances that will equally effect all proffesions.

There is no need. Have we all forgotten the /eyeshot spamming days so quickly?

The current problem with BH, and for all professions, is defense stacking. But whereas a Master Rifleman can take up another profession for defense, thus leveling the playing field, a BH cannot. Once defense stacking is capped/removed, BH's will come back into power. You see, its not that their specials suck(well, Fastblast), but that they just can't hit.

The main reason everybody thinks Rifleman is too powerful is because we can kill other players with our mind attacks in only a few hits... News flash...mind pools are generally people's weakest pool, so of course if we're attacking their weakest pool we're going to tear through them. How fast would a Pistoleer drop someone with a weak health pool? Another reason is the fact that we do this from such a long distance...go figure because we're designed to be long range fighters....get up close us and we're dead. Not to mention that because of our weapon's high mind costs, we're usually the most careful profession when it comes to worrying about our HAM. So we're always buffed up on something....therefore a lot of people think we're just generally tougher than we really are. I can tell you right now if I so much as see a red dot on my radar I take so much stuff I'm practically glowing....Ozzy Osbourne has nothing on me....

Riflemen, BH's, CM's, and Swordsman.........can ALL hit for mind damage. So anyone stating that it's unfair that we can do so, why isn't the same unfair for the other elites? The swing towards the rifleman profession was solely based on the whole stacking fad. Once the stacking is gone, the number of riflemen will plummet back to close to what it used to be. Only the real rifle lovers will remain. I for one am getting sick of everyone using the "look how many people are flocking to rifleman" line as a reason for nerfing us. It's not because we are that much better than any other elite, its because of the STACKING.

So when the nerf hits us and we block it, we only get half the nerf?

I have no faith in anything anymore and believe we will be nerfed in publish 8 in 3 ways mentioned on a deleted post. I cannot say but one of the 3 ways is what riflemen feared for a long time and the other two are going to make it quiet excessive. My whole reason to play SWG is to watch them fail now. I know they will screw up the Space Expansion and that will be the last straw for the playerbase but I might add, I will be SWG's last customer. Either they pull themselves out and make a hell of a MMORPG or they fail miserablely either way I win.

I've said it once I'll say it again .. show me proof that the dev's have said that rifleman will be nerfed .. untill I see it I'm going to be making the effort to lowerthe average star rating for anyone spreading the disinformation.

If your not part of the solution, your part of the problem.

and in fact I agree.. rifle man is powerfull.. but you know what .. I think it's actually about right in it's powerlevel.. and it's teh other classes that need to be fixed before anyone cry's nerf.

and as a quick request to the rifleman corespondant ..if you _do_ hear that they're considering "nerfing" rifleman above and beyond the call of duty .. perhaps they might consider spending that time ratherthan insighting yet more hostility and distrust in there player base actually spend that time FIXINGone of the ACTUAL UNPLAYABLE BROKEN CLASSES (I'm thinking ranger, smugler, droid engineer, image designer.. that sort of teritory.)

I dont think rifleman is going to be nerfed... because the rifleman profession is not as powerful as you all think, mainly because we are so succeptable to attacks like KD, Dizzy, Warcry etc... A rifleman can do very little against a carbineer or BH combined with a mele profession. The Mele rush while the carbineer nocks you over preventing you from staying at range. As a profession rifleman rules in ranged combat - as it should do, but any good PvP er should be able to nail us as soon as they get within range - they just keep us on the floor, a carbineer should be able to do a similar thing, in fact any profession with a dizzy and a KD thats more effective than ours should be able to stop us firing enough to wear down our pools - this is because we have no similar attacks that stop the opponent firing and so have to rely on taking the hits, and also on the fact that we have little defence against these attacks.

Also the main thing is that we have realised the vulnerabilities of the mind pool. Most riflemen have seen and accepted that their mind pool is their weakest pool, and sohave migrated all their stats into it. I myself have done so (400/400/400 on health and action), we then rely solely on being doctor buffed, however we HAVE to do this because even with the migration we STILL need mind buffing of some form to fight effectively (my current strategy involves brandy). This means that our mind pool is no longer our weakest, and if you manage to find the right group of entertainers it is in fact far stronger than any other pool. Few other professions / players have realised this and so few players protect their mind pool, hence when we target their mind pool they are suckers - I see people with 400 mind wandering around fully buffed. To take on a rifleman like this is pure suicide (yes you have muon gold... so do we). If other professions buffed their mind pool to the extent that we did then they would easily live long enough to nail our conventional pools, however no-one does. If a rifleman came against someone this sensible in a profession that doesnt use their mind pool then they could only win in a long drawn out battle where you heal your health and action pools and rely on their mind pool not being healed, because we cant hit their mind pool anywhere near as fast as other professions can damage health and action pools.

Those are my thoughts anyway, I think that pretty soon people will realise that if the only thing they fear is mind attacks they need to do something about it - as a rifleman and medic the only thing I fear when buffed is a KD attack so I cant heal myself or a mind attack, so our opponents should perhaps try a KD attack or try and defent their mind pool like we do.

Its not like you have to create a "rifleman killer" char either... there is no reason why these tactics shouldnt make any player a better buffed PvP fighter, and TBH if your not buffed and go against a buffed rifleman - what were you thinking

As many posts as there have been about "everybody flocking to rifleman," I personally haven't seen that many. In the 2 weeks since I've started, I think I've seen maybe 4-5 master sharpshooters on my server, and I move around quite a bit. Compare that to the number of tkm's I see running around, and it's not even close.

?? what do you mean you havnt seen many around? everyone who is carying a T21 rifle (and I frequently go somewhere where 1/3 of the people are carying rifles) is at least a novice sharpshooter. There might not be many masters around (and I would have to disagree with you there too), but there are sure a lot of punters

Well will our block stats work during our duel with the devs? Also, what if I roll a natural 20 vs development?
