Thread: The best rifleman is not a rifleman?

I just wanted to throw this out there as food for thought. I'll point you folks to my post in the smuggler forums.... this is not a dig at the profession I'm just wondering out loud, why someone would pick rifleman:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=173367

I was a Rifleman/Ranger. I switched to smuggler just about 2 months before the CU hit. Now as a smuggler (with no rifleman skills) I seem to be enjoying rifles a lot. Does this make sense? What am I missing? Am I worse off picking up a rifle (as a master smuggler) than a rifleman is? It doesn't seem so. My adv. Laser is decent damage and low SAC.

Can anyone tell me why I would be better off mastering Rifleman if I wanted to use a rifle?

Rfle speed and accuracy mods, cover and the T-21 otherthen that not much T_T. Professions have been leached of their identities and this is just one side effect of that. Rifles and other professions hopefully will become more defined with time but at the current stage anyone can pick up a rifle and with enough generic mods (try bh/smuggler) be almost as good at every weapon as the main class is with it's own mods and skills.

Exactly my point... it almost seems abusive and unfair. I have been set on trying to remain positive about the CU. I've been looking for things to enjoy about it and trying to explore before jumping to conclusions... but this does not make sense to me.

I mean, who wouldn't want the range and damage of a nice rifle BUT use all the states of BH/MSmuggler? At least if I had to be a master rifleman to be certified for the rifle, then I couldn't abuse the states that other profs give me. I feel dirty doing it, but last night I experimented for about 3 hours and found that my smuggler is most potent using the states of Smuggler/MBH or even Master Pistoleer with a rifle in my hands! How messed up is that?

Rifles are being moved around, I heard that the Advanced Laser Rifle is being made a Master Rifleman only weapon. T21 falls in that catagory too, so that is at least good news, the higher damage weapons will be restricted to only the Masters of the Trade.

I also think you need to look at the Ranged Accuracy aspect of this, Right now I have a 312 Ranged Accuracy....not too bad if you ask me. And that is without powerups, CA's or AA's. I'm sure after a few boosts I can reach my ultimate goal of 400+ /cringe

Yup the rifle acc and speed mods help alot. I respeced to master commando bh and i hit alot less hard with a laser rifle than i did as master rifles.

I'd hate to see 400+ acc tho...gods above that would hurt

See....what the Dev Staff seems to have been shooting for with Smuggler and Bounty Hunter is a pair of classes that are "Jack of all Trades" guys........good with almost any weaponand Excellent with 1 or 2. By and large a Rifleman of the same level should be faster, more accurate and harder hitting with a given rifle if all other variables are the same (same rifle, same attack, same stance etc). If not then the Devs still need to do some balancing. Now, thats not to say that a BH with a rifle and his own Specials can't possibly do a little more damage because I bet they can....just not as fast or accurately as you.

i to find i get the same damage (exactly the same) with leg shot as with advanced head shot and i will be workgin up to improved leg shot,

but, i am pretty sure that our Sniper shot, when it ever gets fixed, will be higher damage than even improved leg shot.

Does anyone know how the Damage Chart is laid out for every point over the targets Ranged Defense? Has that been posted somewhere? Perhaps my Search is too specific...

this is something that (in my knowledge) has not yet been tested (enough) to have valid results.

feel free to run some tests on your own though!

I'd have to disagree with the original poster's sentiments.

The best rifleman is a master rifleman with a good T21 (that only a MR can wield) and whatever other ranged acc mods and specials floats their boat.

If this becomes a big issue, they could put high accuracy penelties on rifles and just boost our Rifle accuracy to compensate.....
