Thread: From TK to Rifle

I'm thinking of changing my template so I can take on the high end mobs but I'm really afraid I'm going to miss my TK skills ( like meditation ) and wind up grinding TK all over again. Becasue of my crafting prof I won't do both. I'm capped on Combat and I've got some nice rifles to start with so it shouldn't be a tough grind. So if I master rifles will I miss TK?

thats why people do TK and rifle, your a self healing medic, a melee person with great defense, and have the backing of a good ranged profession

If you want to take on high-lvl mobs, keep TKM. Rifles are good, but you need to complement with a profession which gives you melee mitigation to be awesome. Unless your "crafting" profession is doctor, you won't do very good with just rifles.

i highly dissagree, if you know how to kite well enough, you can be just as effective as a tkm, if not more, due to our wider variety of damage types

True, but it's just easier to take on something within melee range with a melee type profession. Granted, as a MRM, things rarely get within melee range before you kill it. Still,I would keep TKM. I'm actually considering dropping CH and just doing my Master Pikeman/Master Rifleman template like I always planned.

You'll miss the meditation line, for sure. And you'll definitely miss the defenses.

Umm, I don't mean to be doubtful, but what MOB do you think a TKA can't take out by himself. I have watched TKAs take on 4, 5, 6 Enraged Rancors at one time and come out of the battle the clear winner. I have seen this happen so many times I just stand there and stare. So please tell me why you need anything else except possibly the recent Dark Jedi Master I ran into (and avoided like the plague since I was alone). He had Heavy armor rating and had either 80 or 90% resistance in every category except lightsaber of course. He also had a huge HAM, but this part I don't rember exactly how much. So other than someonelike this were your kinetic isn't going to do enough damage quickly enough and He will close on you and fry you with his powers what is there out there you think a rifle will kill faster than your hands can?

Enranged rancors = light armor and 30-40'ish kin resits. Try the something with medium or heavy armor and high kinetic resits. Go fight enhanced mobs in the geno lab, nova troopers on the vette, NS protectors, or anyting else that has better armor/resits and you'll see the weaknesses of TKM.

I'm currently going through this transition myself. I was TKM/ Master Architect, I'm slowly dropping TKM for Rifleman and CH now. It's all a matter of playing preference. I was getting very bored with TKM, that's why I wanted to change. But I'm the type of person that doesn't care how "uber" I am, just as long as I have fun playing the game.

I am actually a melee guy on this server, but speaking from a little experience ill throw in my two cents. I think that Rifleman is a fantastic proffession, but I would be hard pressed not to have a melee backup like TKM as my secondary. Unless you REALLY need to keep your crafting prof, I would very much recommend that you do TKM master rifles. I have seen tkms solo krayts, I have seen master rifleman come in half way through those kills and steal them from the TKMS too. I have also seen the TKMs run toward the Master Rifleman (only master rifles mind you) peace, let it kill him in a few hits, and go back to wailing on it. Sad but true having done the proffesions I would say the defense for Rifles is lacking, you will sorely miss TKM when you could stand and take a beating and make it out alive. And don't forget PvP, rifles have a high value in PvE and PvP if you are interested in doing that. But once (or if) a solid melee template gets in close, even with half mind from the nice Jawa Ion smacking it over and over, if you dont have any melee to combat it with, expect to meet demise quickly. Good luck, this is a tough one.

I am bot TKM and rifleman.

First i was only rifleman. But then i decided to take TKM and see if i liked it (and perhaps surrender rifleman), and i did like it

But i did not surrender rifleman, because i have xperienced that riflman rules pvp, and I like pvp

Another thing is the great damge of rifleman and the great defences of TKM. With those 2, you can take just anything :

And the meditation rules, havent been to med center for a month

But if I had to choose i would probably take Rifleman. It is good in pvp and u can take down the bigger mobs solo.
